I have been hearing multiple rumors that Halo 5 will be the end of the Chief…anyone else been hearing that?
Yeah, I have been hearing some people stating this but we don’t really know much about Halo 5 so it is a bit early.
I know that some point in the future Chief will most likely die but probably not in Halo 5.
No, not at all. In fact, 343i said that this game will go even deeper with the Chief
I hope Chief retires and doesn’t die!! He deserves to get his pension plan!
They have said that Halo 4 is the first entry into a new saga for MC so most likely not.
I am curious what Locke’s role will be in the series though.
both are going to be playable on each mission like halo 2 and halo 3 odst.
> both are going to be playable on each mission like halo 2 and halo 3 odst.
that’s just pure speculation, so please don’t say it, like it is something already confirmed.
During E3 2014 interviews with 343i staff, it has been clearly stated that Halo 5: Guardians will be a Master Chief game first and foremost. It would be hard to delve deeper into John’s humanity and psyche if he were not the main focus of the games.
> I hope Chief retires and doesn’t die!! He deserves to get his pension plan!
Ha! Spartans never die!
Okay, in all seriousness, I doubt Chief will die until at least the end of the Recliamer saga, but going of what the thread’s title asks, that might not by too far from the truth.
In Halo 4’s prologue, Halsey accuses her ONI interrogator of wanting to replace John. After his disappearance after the destruction of the Ark, ONI had plenty of time to begin development on a new kind of ‘John-117 hero’.
Four years later, Chief pops back up, but ONI is almost or already done with their new breed of super-solider. And that very well may be Locke.

Don’t worry, John-117’s story is far from over.

Don’t care

I think Chief deserves a warriors death. Going out with honor and glory.
But Locke maybe replaces Chief after the Reclaimer saga, or late in it. I just hope that Locke is not another silent type hero, if he turns out to be the new hero later.

I think Chief should get taken away by an eternal Forerunner/Precursor/Ancient-abstract being to immortality; much like Goku was taken away with Shenron at the end of Dragonball GT.
…only kidding a little.

Chief will gather seven Halos to summon a Precursor.
I don’t want another main character - I want the series to die with the Chief. He has a backstory, a character and an entire universe built around him - I have no interest in playing a halo game without him. I’ll be honest, I play the Halo game for the story, of which he is the main character. When he dies, for me that story will be over and any subsequent Halo games won’t hold anywhere near as much interest for me.
That’s just my opinion though, which is also coloured by the fact that Locke seems infinitely less interesting. With that said if Bungie had ever tried to make the Arbiter the main character I would have lost interest in the series…
I don’t think they’ll replace him imo. They’ve already gone on about how they won’t kill people unnecessarily now, and we’ve already had two Halo games which end in the MC’s supposed death. In 3 everyone believes he’s dead and in Reach everyone dies (nearly). At this point it’s been done, I don’t know if the Master Chief could ever ‘retire’ - but there is one II which did and I feel like that could be just as interesting as a ‘warriors death’ - the latter seems like the easy way out.
Crief retires to his villa in Mexico.
I agree with Chaos Overide, I also play Halo for the storyline. If Chief goes, I may not care about Halo anymore. at that point, would it even be called Halo anymore. There doesn’t seem to be anymore focus on the Forerunner rings anymore anyway. They’re mentioned more in the novels than the game. By the way if you haven’t read Eric Nylund’s novels, you really should!! I’ve read The Fall of Reach 6 times! off topic I know, but Halo = Master Chief, period.
Replacing Chief would be like replacing Link or Samus as the main characters.
Yeah. I definitely think that Locke is ONI’s “replacement” of Chief after he went MIa for four years. I also don’t think we should have a main title game past Halo 7. Throw in another ODST and an open world RPG and we will be good. And maybe another Halo Wars. We need to let the series die by the end of this Saga. Call of Duty has 10 games and is coming out with an 11th and look at how sick people are getting of it. So far, we already have 7 games. Add in 5,6,7 in the Saga and we are at 10. At most we can branch out for two more spinoffs.

The librarian already made chief super sayain by ascending him. Maybe he can just go to the next level in h5. Someone has to do something about the didact’s lame gravitational control power…

Agreed. Master chief is halo’s goku.

I don’t like this idea. Just go with the flow until its done. No need to set limits.
