Is 343i overzealous with map boundaries?

Bungie was like this with Halo Reach too. And now it seems 343i is with Halo 4. According to rumor it is impossible to forge under the water on “Erosion” this seems to foreshadow the problem we had with Reach where you had no real freedom of movement outside of maps. And in forge maps too? REALLY?

While I’m not saying it should be like Halo 2 where you could super-bounce your way miles out of the map but remember how it was in Halo 3? With a bit of knowledge and skill you could get juuuuust outside the map, not gamebreaking but enough to get to cool spots and it was good for forge too. Or you could grenade jump into high spots or do interesting jumps to get around the map and flank enemies.

Remember this?

Or this?

Or this?

If these maps were in Reach more likely than not all those areas would be blocked by invisible walls or soft kill zones. And sadly it seems 343i is going with that same idea of BLOCK EVERYTHING with Halo 4.

I mean listen to this video.(Thanks to our very own Little Moa for uploading the video)

Apparently originally you were not even able to go up that high. Why? This gives you a look into the thought process of the forge map designers. This is forge. Shouldn’t you want to give players the most freedom as possible? Sure they changed it in the final version of “Ravine” but still at one point it was inaccessible. Why do that in the first place?

I want to be able to explore the boundaries of maps again, I want to be able to trick jump to high or cool spots, I want to be about the surprise my foes and gain an upper-hand with greater map knowledge. And I know I’m not alone. How do you feel?

Overly restrictive boundaries will destroy any potential those Forge maps have, mark my words.

In matchmaking I think there should be strict boundaries, but not in forge

Boundaries are there because they don’t want you to be there. Not much more to say about that. In forge, I can see where it would be an issue, but I mean geez, they’re giving you 3 maps that have a pretty large area to forge in. Up, down, and side to side.

i remmeber the shark map made out of one of the maps on H3, it was actualy just off the beach and if ur lucky you could get back into the map but now its just impossible… i hope there not

They have to draw the line somewhere. Larger free zones just requires more work to finish the environments. and there is really nothing to be gained by moving around in open but unplanned zones.

Yeah I agree to some extent OP, but we won’t truly know until the game is released. It is very true though that the flexibility in past maps lead to some really fun times in forge and also it shakes up the game play a little with a little bit of imagination.
