Is 343i Forcing Ranked Play On Us or Do I Just Have the Worst Luck?

I’m not going to beat about the bush: I hate Ranked. I avoid it like the plague whenever I can. So, you can probably imagine my dismay when I saw I had a Ranked challenge.

“Fair enough,” I said. “It’s only one. Might as well get it out of the way.”

After I met the requirements and completed it, however, I was shocked to see another Ranked challenge had taken its place. So, I used a Challenge Swap. Then another Ranked challenge took that ones place. I used another swap, and another, and another until I had used them all, and each time I always got a Ranked challenge.

Now I know that I can just not complete them, but isn’t that the whole point of a Challenge Swap? To swap out the ones you don’t want?

The Ranked challenges are part of the Championship event. So technically they are forcing ranked on you because swapping them will swap them to other ranked challenges.

Challenge swaps now swap out a challenge for another challenge that is part of the same group. So weapon challenges like “get X kills with the (Terrible) Comando” will be swapped out with other challenges like “get X kills with X weapon.”

See, that I don’t mind. Any other challenge, whether it be gametype or weapon kill, I am fine with. I don’t usually swap those out unless it’s “Win 3 matches.” I knew that there was a Championship event going on, I just didn’t realise that it wasn’t optional. It would have made more sense, to me at least, to have the event challenges separate from the normal Weekly ones.

You don’t have to do them you know.

While I understand people may not want to play ranked, you are paired on skill and they are challenges like win 2 games, play 3 games, score 7,500 point cumulative so I feel like you barely need to play to accomplish them.

I had play 2 strongholds games which I just skipped as I usually do with mode specific ones as I’m not interested in anything RNG.

I know I don’t have to. I literally say that I know I can just not complete them at the end of the thread, lol. Which is why I brought up the concept of Challenge Swaps.

You say “paired on skill”, but does that cover your team only or all 8 players? Because in the last match I played, which was CTF, we got absolutely curb stomped by the opposing team to the point where one of ours ended up leaving.

Yeah I understand that but they’ve written that you’ll receive the same thematic challenges.

Please note: Given new prioritization being added to active event challenges, and this ‘HCS Showdown’ event being live in game this week, you will have ranked-challenges present in your active challenge lineup. Using a swap on this challenge will continue to return a ranked-playlist focused challenge as part of the week long event.

So your only choices are play or ignore; dumb decision on their part I feel ya.

I wish I had read that before I used all of my swaps, lol :man_facepalming: Well, I guess I’ll just have to do what challenges I can and miss out on this UWC. They should have really been separate, I feel, and not mixed in with the regular challenges.

Both teams are equally skilled on paper. Sometimes the system gets it a little wrong but most the time the games end up being pretty even.

Of course sometimes you get stomped, and sometimes you do the stomping. But most games should be pretty even stephens a large portion of the time.

If you keep playing you should find that a lot of your games are down to the wire and you just edge some wins and just edge some losses too.

I love ranked for how close the games become.

All other playlists are just Ranked without visible ranks. Skill Based Matchmaking is used in all of Halo Infinite’s playlists. Except for friendly fire, the motion tracker, and BR starts, Ranked and Quickplay are basically the same thing.

Every playlist in this game has equally strict skill based matchmaking behind it. You are literally playing “ranked” even if you are playing Fiesta. There’s almost no difference between the “ranked” and “unranked” lists in how this works.

So unless you have some particular aversion to BR starts and no radar, there’s no reason to avoid the Ranked list.

Maybe it is because of the BR starts then that I dislike it, if there really isn’t any much difference between ranked and non-ranked.

If you hardly play ranked, that could be why you experience this more often. It happens a lot more often to players that don’t play ranked frequently, or occasionally get on and are much better than their rank indicates, they just haven’t played enough to go up to a rank you would see reflects that level of game play. On the other hand though, if you don’t play much ranked ever and hop on…got your placement matches and have had a good game…the game throws a curve ball at you. Trying to see if it should move you further up if you out perform your estimated performance, put you lower if you do worse, or leave you be if it was expected.

Each team has a win% chance. On halo tracker you could literally see eagle or cobra team (it names the winner) showing their chance to win the match. If its much past 50% win chance, they don’t get tons of csr to move up because they were clearly favored. If its lower than 50% , like 30s, it move people up. Hopefully that makes sense.

Personally all I play is ranked when I do get on. I don’t ever actually look at the challenges or events or anything though. Like I have no idea what rewards are even available. I have the reach battle pass thing and Im progressing through that. Should I opt into these challenges since all i play is ranked? Any good rewards? I’m at work so i can’t get on my game.

I hope these ranked themed challenges are not here to stay as a casual player who doesn’t find it fun its annoying when my challenge swaps don’t remove the ranked challenges its not fun when a a game forces you to play competitively just to progress the battle pass

I do not think they are for this Ranked event. I believe they will be going away. Cannot speak to other events though.

Know what is not fun…challenges in general. That kind of game play where you have to work on something kills the fun and organic style of play. I know I am not the only one that if you try to get X amount of kills with X weapon and you fail miserably. However if you just play you organically do better than when you try for something. I have had better games and matches when it was just “complete X matches” and all of a sudden my K/D skyrockets.

What I find most worrying is there are so many complaints about the challenges in this game but, they’re some of the most basic challenges you could ever come up with.

I know some people aren’t great at the game but they are supposed to be, you know, challenges. Get 10 commando kills or play 2 games of CTF. I really can’t think of anything easier other than those daily login rewards that games have.

Too many people out there too used to getting participation medals.

No one is forcing you to do anything. The challenges are not mandatory.
There’s a list of weekly challenges, where does is it say that when you swap challenges, the active one goes away?

I don’t mind the challenges in general; they are, as you say, supposed to be a challenge. But that’s what Challenge Swaps are about, yes? To swap out the ones we don’t like?

Yes but, this week’s gimmick is about HCS so many of the challenges are based around ranked.

They did announce this in advance and basically said not to bother trying to get rid of those challenges.

I was extremely pissed off about being forced to play Fiesta during the first week, but they were so simple I had them done fairly quickly anyway.
