Title pretty much says it all. Me and a friend of mine are tired of driving the warthog and not getting any assist points for kills the gunner makes. In fact driving the warthog is great way to lower your overall stats even if your gunner is wrecking the enemy team. A good driver is hard to find and without them the gunner would not be able to rack up kills so it is only fair that the driver earns kill assist like they used too in past halo games. What are other peoples thoughts on this?
yes plz^^
no, they did fix it
its NOT supposed to be an assist
Semantics play a huge role here
in order for an assist to register you must DAMAGE an enemy and your teammate finishes him off
now as a driver the only way you can get an assist is to bump and enemy with a vehicle and have a teammate finish him.
drivers that deal no damage to an enemy should NOT receive credit for an assist (wheelman medal is appropriately awarded as well as the commendation attached)
if you want to stat pad there is Grifball and BTB

I agree but slightly disagree.
I definitely understand your point but the driver should get some assist points for driving. The driver is making sure the gunner does not die by evading enemies and hiding behind a rock or object to let the gunner’s shields recharge.
Past Halo’s use to give driver assists whenever the gunner got the kill, and most likely for that reason.

An assist goes much deeper than just dealing damage. Driving a gunner into position for a kill is literally one of the definitions of assisting a kill. All the past halo games gave drivers assist for gunner kills and it was not a mistake that needed fixing. I could care less about stat padding. I just want drivers to earn their due instead of finishing matches with horrible stats just because they were driving. At least some recognition for their skills is needed and a wheelman medal is hardly compensation as it means nothing in the end.

“horrible stats”
once you learn to let go of how good you look on paper you will finally understand
good drivers do get rewarded, but not in the way you and most other stat padders want

No one is insulting anyone here but you. Listen I know what a good driver can do. they can win a game for a team but they sacrifice a lot to do it. Like I said before I’m not here to “pad” my stats as there are much better game types to do that in. I should probably also add that I’m almost always the gunner in my group of friends since that is what I’m best at. Go look at how many wheelmans I have and you will see that it is extremely low. I’m posting this on behalf of all the good warthog drivers out there who deserve better recognition for their skills.

Yea this is an issue of want vs. need and semantics. The wheelman medal is the appropriate medal. If you wanted an assist medal for a driver who did no damage to a Spartan, you’d have to change the actual assist medal to something else because they are not equal.
if the game would show you your medals after the match (and you could check others) i would think this wouldnt be a problem since you get the wheelman medal. but since this got removed for whatever reasons i see where OP is coming from. people could simply report you for thinking you were afk even though you were driving (just an example). happens enough.
and whats wrong with wanting a little bit of recognition for what youve done? especially in a game. i see absolutly no harm for giving a driver an assist.
It is annoying finishing a BTB where I ferried my friend round the entire match with him at the top of the leaderboard on 30+ kills and me at (or near) the bottom on like 5/5.
I’m the driver. I got my Wheelman commendation a long time ago. When he drives me we get killed because he is reckless and doesn’t have the awareness required. I’m trying to teach him but it is frustrating.
I have no problem in Warzone because my Req level goes up with his kills but in BTB I look like a -Yoink- heel who isn’t contributing and that isn’t the case.
Yes I agree it should be readded. At the current level why would anyone want to drive a warthog around so your best friend can wrack up the kills. I guess the answer is its a team objective game. While be all try to act like we don’t care about individual stats but face it we all do.
A separate thread clarified, as touched on this thread, that if you don’t damage you don’t get assist. You get Wheelman recognition rather.
I just learn to live with it, get some wheelman credit and otherwise splat enemy Spartans.
You do realize your ‘assists’ are registered as ‘wheelman’ medals right? And that these go towards the wheelman commendation right? And that it’s also in the company assist commendation category. You are getting credit and points as a driver.

I disagree. I drove a random teammate around for the entire length of the game. I went 0-0 and he went 15-0. His Running Riot would not have happened without my driving. What do I have to show for it?
