Many think that 343 is trying to reach the Fortnite, PUBG, Apex, and Battle Royale players for Infinite. What if they’re not?
After hiring Rogelio Olguin (senior environment artist) who worked with Naughty Dog for 6 years on The Last Of Us and Uncharted. As well as hiring a music supervisor that worked on God of War, TLOU, and Uncharted. And hiring Batman Arkham writer, could 343 be targeting a more mature audience???
Could this be part of the reason why Infinite’s marketing hasn’t kicked in?
Think about it, 343 has stated MANY times that Infinite’s biggest inspiration is CE. CE was and is a mature game. In fact Halo CE - Reach were games with mature audiences. Not only were those rated M games, they had adult topics and themes. Existentialism, politics, mythological references, religion, morality, death, transhumanism, and more philosophical themes. There were “deep and powerful” things going on besides shooting aliens.
Halo 5 was the “lightest” Halo game. It was too Power Ranger tone heavy. Halo 5 was light on violence, tone, character development, themes, and etc. It tried to appeal to the masses. There was very little to no stake. It was also Rated T.
- It’s also WORTH NOTING that Halo 5’s marketing painted it as a dark and thrilling game. When it wasn’t even close to that.
343 wants Infinite to return to what makes Halo Halo. And part of that involves going back to those certain themes and tone.
So maybe 343 is really trying to target the older audience like TLOU, God of War, Batman Arkham, Halo CE - Reach??
I think it’s very possible that is the case, with it being a soft reboot I’d imagine 343i want to go back to the roots of the franchise.
Would be nice to see Halo go back to a more serious tone. Hit those deep story roots again.
I loved Halo 5 as a game but I agree it did feel a bit like a Power Ranger game in some regard. We’ll see how the game turns out soon enough. If it’s Halo I’ll play it.
As for that being the reason why the marketing campaign hasn’t kicked in? I don’t believe that to be true. That’s just Xbox having to make their own event from scratch since E3 was cancelled & trying to stay competitive with other companies in the industry such as Sony & Nintendo. They won’t show Halo without Series X. And they can’t show us Series X now without a price and Microsoft are probably waiting for Sony to announce theirs first. All strategy etc.
I hope for the dark atmosphere from Reach for Infinite, a darker, better story - in general everything not Halo 4 or 5 had…
I have high hopes that this is the case. The most exciting bit of news (besides the beautiful trailers) was when they announced the writer of the Arkham games would be writing for Infinite. The Arkham games are some of the best ever and a major reason for that is the story and narrative. I am eager to see if Infinite will have writing as good as what we got with Bungie’s games.
I’m hoping its just like Fortnite! Only kidding. But on a serious note I do hope it’s leaning towards a more rated M type of game like Reach. I have high hopes for Infinite. Don’t let us down 343i.
This was a really well thought out and written post. So first, kudos on that. I love the thought and agree 100%. 343i’s actions and words all line up to that. As someone who only plays CE social, I’m stoked if true.
Also… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get the power ranger reference out of my head if I ever play Halo 5 again. So true!
