I mean its almost unplayable, and I have 50 down 10 up. Have they ever commented on this problem?

This has been a huge problem since day one. I am sure they are aware of it. But I am not sure if it has ever been addressed. I just wish I could play it offline.
You may have good internet but perhaps the people you’re playing with don’t? It’s certainly worse than in matchmaking though. I don’t play it because it’s so laggy even though I really like the idea of it.
yeah crippling lag is what defines spartan ops. its so bad i pretty much have to play it solo only. i rarely can find a game with others where its only kinda laggy and no lag is a pipe dream.
There is one more problem with Spartan Ops the new DLC for Halo 4 is not working and i hope they can fix it.
> I mean its almost unplayable, and I have 50 down 10 up. Have they ever commented on this problem?
Same connection - same problem - it’s H4 for all multiplayer too.
Here is a classic example of why this happens - it’s how horribly H4 picks host for any multiplayer game and who it puts in the game (no local filters at all):
https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postsm2567780_Is-Halo-4-s-Netcode-Bogging-Down.aspx#post2567780
And before some H4 fan boy chants the 343 mantra “It’s your connection”, it isn’t and Halo Reach plays perfectly smooth Co-Op for FireFight or BTB 95% of the time - versus less than 30% of the time in H4.
It’s never going to be fixed either - 343 has your money and could care less, which is why they lost 320,000 online players in the first 30 days of H4’s release:
> There is one more problem with Spartan Ops the new DLC for Halo 4 is not working and i hope they can fix it.
bs angel has unforetunately confirmed that the issues with Spartan Ops and the new DLC will not be fixed, such a shame.

Nope - it won’t be.
There was a posting yesterday from BS Angle that’s never going to be fixed:

Glad I didn’t buy it.
This is the network method they use for the co-op gametyps in Reach and Halo 4, this is basically why it lags so much in the co-op games compared to regular matchmaking.
http://cruellegaceyproductions.com/2011/11/12/halo-reach-co-op-and-firefight-lag-explained/
> Halo Reach uses 2 different network models for online play. Co-op and firefight run on a “synchronous” network model. Let’s say you are playing 4-player co-op. One player is the “host”, the other 3 are “clients”. All 4 players load the level, and all 4 players start the mission at the same time. Now, when a “client” presses a button, such as ‘jump’, their xbox sends a signal to the “host” xbox, telling it what the client player is doing. The host box receives these signals from all 3 clients, then calculates every movement, bullet fired, damage done, etc, and sends the updated information out to all the clients, who’s xboxs then reproduce the changes. But, the host will only send out these updates when it has received signals from all 3 clients. It does this to maintain accurate and consistent information across all 4 players (In other words, all 4 players are seeing the same things in the same places at the same time).
>
> This is where the lag comes in: If just one of the players in the game has a bad connection, it slows down their ability to send information to the host, which means the host has to wait longer before it can send out gameplay updates to the other players. So, even if you are a client with a great connection, and the host has a great connection, you can still get major lag if one of the other clients has a slow connection.
>
> This is experienced as a sort of input delay (the game will not instantly react to your button presses).
To simply put what Bellsten posted: The laws of physics, sucks.
Even though the speed of light is fast, its not fast enough!
Are they aware? yes.
Is it possible to make it better? yes.
is it probable? no. With another halo a little over a year away and them focusing on fixing war games loadout weapons, getting the net code fixed for an unpopular feature isn’t a high priority for them.
Was Bungie aware how bad Halo 3, ODST FF, and Reach FF lagged? This stuff is going to happen and Camaign co-op and SOps are prone to lagging because, 1 how few people play it, and 2 all the stuff that’s going on in those modes. H5 on improved hardware and dedicated servers should be better with those modes.
The thing is folks, the bulk of the Lag in H4 can be fixed without changing the Xbox Halo 4 App. It’s how the game gets set up that is the major issue and that’s handled by the servers.
The first issue is how the H4 servers just toss anyone in the world into the same game - and appears to have no regional filters at all.
Secondly, the way the servers pick host is by “Host History” not by the best connection (i.e. lowest ping, highest band width for upload and download) for that game. With “Host history”, if you don’t have a history as a newer player, then you get host. An example of this is described below:
https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postsm2567780_Is-Halo-4-s-Netcode-Bogging-Down.aspx#post2567780
This method does not take into account any change in your internet conditions - either long term because you upgraded (or downgraded) your internet or because of local issues. The more you play, the more likely you will never be host. The reasoning is if your host in USA - and the rest of the people in a game are say in Japan, Mexico, South America and the UK -(i.e. no regional filters at all) then they will be lagged and you will get a bad Host Reputation. The more this happens, the lower the probability of you becoming host.
Thirdly, the argument that it’s all due to low numbers doens’t hold water.
Reach has 500 to 1,500 players in the BTB lobby on any given day and H4 BTIS had about 8,500+ people back in late May and early June of 2013. Of my 1,400 H4 BTIS games, 70% were lagged by 0.5+ seconds. When I switched back to Halo Reach June 6, 5% of my games are as lagged as badly as H4 is 70% of the time. If I play 20 BTB / BTIS games, 1 game in Halo Reach will be lagged by 0.5+ seconds of Lag - whereas 14 games in H4 will be lagged by 0.5+ seconds. The same applies for Halo Reach FireFight as compared to H4 Spartan ops and Campaign too.
So with 5% to 18% of the number of players in BTB for Reach as compared to BTIS in H4, the lag issues due to low numbers should be at least an order of magnitude worse in Reach - but they aren’t.
The question is why will 343 not even bother to fix the basic Lag issues - which are on the server side and don’t require changes to the Xbox H4 game? The absolute lack of any response from 343 over the past 10 months really speaks volumes to how much they value us as paying Fans and should give everyone pause on whether they want to spend $610 USD + Tax on H5 ( i.e. XB1 Console + XBL Gold Mebership + H5).
I just play Spartan Ops solo. I think it’s a bigger issue that you can’t play Spartan Ops offline. Think about it; if you bought Halo 4 and you didn’t even have your Xbox 360 hooked up to the internet (or were otherwise unable to do so for whatever reason), all you have to play is Campaign. That’s hardly worth $40 bucks by itself, much less $60…
Not hating on the Halo 4 campaign, I actually thought it was decent (and the story was amazing), but it’s only a few hours of gameplay all by itself…
When I bought Halo 3, all I had was the Campaign. No Xbox Live connection at all, at the time. I got bored with it after a couple weeks, and quickly became obsessed with it once I finally figured out how to connect my console to Xbox Live, and played Halo multiplayer for the first time.

I’ve played many Spartan Ops missions in matchmaking and never had that much of an issue.
This has been an issue ever since Firefight was introduced in Halo 3 ODST. For some reason, Halo just hasn’t figured out how to make Firefight/Spartan Ops not lag.
If you’re wondering why it lags, then this will help you find out why.

It’s happened since Halo 3. Halo 5 will have dedicated servers but we have no clue if that’s for any co-op stuff.
