Irritating Retailer-Specific In-Game Content

As much as 343 has preached that they’re not introducing FOMO into Infinite, these time-sensitive promotions have already invaded the game well before it has even launched.

I won’t create a list of everything you already may have missed over the past year (unless someone wants me to), but just look at the pre-order bundles: https://www.haloinfinitenews.com/post/preorder-bonuses

US
Gamestop – Assault Rifle
Best Buy – Battle Rifle

Canada
Gamestop – Assault Rifle

Australia – Limited Edition Only – SOLD OUT
EB Games – Battle Rifle, Sidekick

Maybe this isn’t a huge deal to most people, but I actually like these coatings. I pre-ordered both the Halo Infinite Series X and the Steam version. I don’t get any of these three weapon skins. And even if I had gotten one, I would still be upset that I missed out on the other two. Why would they make a set of weapon skins and then prevent players from even obtaining the whole set?

I’m sure that Halo is not the first and will not be the last game to do this. But this doesn’t make it right.

It was like this with H4 and H5 as well, its unfortunate…but not new

theyre all pretty boring skins lmao just color changes. if you bought em you’d stop using them in a week max.

This has been a thing ever since consoles got the ability to download content. It’s something retailers do to incentivize customers to come to their stores instead of their competitors. So, it’s not really a 343i thing as much as it’s a retailer thing. Assuming sales remain the same, I’m sure 343i ultimately wouldn’t care where you got the game from. But, retail stores help them sell their game and those companies want something for themselves too.

Pre-ordering is bad news. I personally don’t pre-order games any more.

I could be wrong, but I’m sure somewhere it said that these wouldn’t be unlockable in-game for like the first 3 months or something, but then would be a possible unlock after that.

I seem to recall that specifically being said about the Monster-themed weapon skin set, though I would assume that would apply to those listed above too?

This was only specified for the “Snack on with Xbox” Canada promotion. Although, it’s reasonable to assume that some others will only be exclusive for three months too.

If the past is any indication, something is exclusive in a Halo game until it’s not.

You’d probably use the coating for a week before you unlocked something else better anyway. Every game that has ever had pre order bonuses are only cool for like the first couple hours of playing and then they’re worthless. You’re not missing out

It’s lame as hell that the Xbox Storefront preorder doesn’t have a bonus either. But in any case, these promos are just for marketing. They won’t matter in the long run. They’ll have passes upon passes full of colors to use. And, if we’re lucky, the concept of “rare” armors or colors won’t be existent. Same deal with the weapon skins, they’ll probably drop tons.

Not gonna be missing much in anyway of FOMO as there will probably be similar if not better stuff once the game been out for a week or 2

I’ve been looking for this stuff. Thanks. I’m going to order digitally. I don’t care about cosmetics, I’m old lol, so will it matter where I preorder from? I’ll just get the regular edition unless there’s a reason to upgrade other than cosmetics? Am I understanding every thing correctly that extra money will only go towards cosmetics and not towards any type of game play?

and yet not a single thing for asia. The region about they said had the most mcc sales. cool i guess

This has been a thing for games for many years now, it isn’t new at all. Fortunately the skins are kinda meh, and will probably get replaced fairly quickly by things people actually earn in the game. As always though, try not to preorder a game unless you really want it, don’t let the FOMO get to you.

I wouldnt be surprised if in a year or two there is a bundle that has all these pre-order items in it.
