i know this is a little late for this since the game has been out for years, but I’ve been seeing stuff that says you need a tank or Spartan Laser to take down the Phaeton. This is indeed false, and you can actually do it with 4-5 DMR shots. The more you know, right?
What does the iron skull have to do with this? Also, it takes way more than 4-5 DMR shots to take out a Phaeton. At least in regular MP.
It has to do with Iron because it spawns after you take down the Phaeton. It only takes 4-5 DMR shots because it has less health than a regular one. I did this yesterday.

He’s apparently referring to something that takes place in the campaign. So I suppose in the campaign, this particular Phaeton can be downed with a few shots from a DMR. Whether he’s implying a few shots from a DMR can down a Phaeton in any game mode in Halo 5 or not, I’m not sure.

It’s a correction on the common belief that you need a tank or spartan laser when you can just shoot it out of the sky with a DMR

That’s a special case because it’s tied to the skull. That does not work at all in multiplayer.
