Invasion Strategy

Invasion is very different from the vast majority of the standard Reach gameplay. While the basic skills such as coordinated pushing and good aim remain as important as they usually are, Invasion also requires you to start using some different skills to get that coveted 3-0.

  1. If you’re playing defense, be aggressive.
I know it sounds rather contradictory, but being an aggressive defender can pay off in spades. Send two people towards your opponent’s spawns to wreak havoc on them while providing long range support. Shutting down the attack before it even begins can be as satisfying as a last second territory defend.

  2. Take your time on offense
You have 4:00 to take a 20 second territory on your first round. The second round is much the same, and the third round requires the escort of a slow objective towards a goal point. Don’t worry about running out of time. Get local numerical superiority and push. Spread out while defending, because it is guaranteed that many, many grenades will be flying towards your location soon, and you don’t want to give the other team an easy triple kill.

  3. Spawn camp.
Yeah, it’s dishonorable and all of that babble. But this is strategy, not a contest of chivalry. Keep the pressure up on the enemy, and don’t let them regroup and plan something out. Every second that you aren’t putting pressure on them is another second they have to make a push together and create an effective defense. Of course, don’t chase a kill if you know you can’t catch it, and never give up the power positions.

With these three bits of advice, your Invasion team might be as good as mine.

There’s only two things the majority of players do in Invasion.

  1. Get Banshee.
  2. Boost stats.

I’ve yet to do that.

The stats come naturally from playing an effective metagame.

Some simple yet good advice. I might try next time I play some Invasion.

Super accurate generalisation there bro.

Hmm, let’s see.

Take the High Ground and keep it holy: If possible, take the high ground for a tactical advantage against other players in Invasion. If you are on Spire, it is far easier to avoid Plasma Grenade bombardment if you make your way on top of the rock on the left side approach. From there it is also possible to support with a Pistol at range, unlike the Elite defenders.

Take your time and await for an opportunity: In my games with a friend, we have often opted to go in silently to the two points on Spire(boneyard is a different matter) and watch. Call out targets to your friend/team mates and wait for that perfect oppurtunity to strike. When the enemy is vulnerable, when they are distracted, or standing near somethign explosive.

I once had a game of Spire where we capped the first point in a heartbeat, because the two of us advanced towards the left silently. We got the oppurtunity to destroy a Plasma canister for a double kill, severly weakening the defenders. The other four players rushed to defend it; leaving the two of us fighting four elites, while the other four captured the point unimpeded.

On Boneyard I have found that Two people using Camo as a radar jammer are very effective in engaging the right side entry way at the first point. The defenders are left with a nigh on useless radar and they have to rely on visual to find their targets. Add needlers into the mix and the defenders have a bad day.

The “team” composes of me, SeKtor and four other people on our friends lists.

I might invite you when I get back on Halo.
