Invasion problem with unsporting opponents

The other day I played the worst night of Halo games that I have ever had against several unsporting teams. My friend and I were playing Invasion all night and ran into multiple games where we were surrounded at the spawn points with no chance of survival after spawning.

The worst was a game on Spire after the first invasion point had been breached. We were defending the tower at that point, but the rest of our team quit and the entire opposing team grabbed all of the power weapons and the Banshee and just surrounded the only two points on the ledge that we could spawn from at that point. We couldn’t even take two steps without being hit with the fuel rod gun, assassinated, or any other humiliating death. The Banshee kept hitting us with missiles at the other spawn point. I never quit a game, so we suffered through 5-10 minutes of this horror with the other team not even attempting to capture the core.

It was easily the worst game of Halo I have ever played, because the team was both entirely unsporting with the spawn-killing, and didn’t even act in the spirit of the invasion objective. What made it worse was that this strategy was employed against us a couple more times that same night by different teams!

We had never seen such poor sportsmanship in Invasion before, have others encountered this? I’m not even sure what could be done to combat this aside from perhaps removing the Banshee on Spire and maybe giving no penalty for quitting when a team is down to only two players.

These games were so disheartening it made me hesitant to even want to play online anymore, and I’ve been playing online Halo for the past 10 years!

Just quit next time.

I really feel for you. That is part of the problem with the gaming community now. As far back as I can remember, we always gave the other team a fighting chance. I know that sounds bad, but its called being a good sport. Spawn killing only happened with a well placed sniper shot or grenade. It seems like Reach is set up that way. Even now, if we play a team that is just horrible, we still win, but at least give them a chance to get some kills. Not everyone is the best, but they still deserve to have a good time.

> Just quit next time.

But then you become the population that quit like the rest of the team.

It’s not the opponents fault for taking advantage of the games situation. The problem was your teammates that quit out because there is no penalty.

Seriously, just quit. Nobody minds when you quit games like that. Even if you quit every game where the majority of your team left i highly doubt you would get quit banned.

Complaining on the forums how you got spawn camped for 15 minutes in a 6 vs 2 instead of quitting isn’t the smartest idea.

I appreciate the responses, but I hate the fact that I would be penalized in any way if I quit. I did nothing wrong, and I really don’t mind playing when outnumbered. I just want to play.

I wish it was possible to remove the quitting penalty when you’re outnumbered by a certain amount, or some other criteria. I also feel like the Invasion gametype needs to be tweaked if the spawn points are so rigid that everyone knows exactly where you spawn from and can suppress the opposing team at the two spots we’re allowed to spawn from.

They didn’t HAVE to spawn kill the last 2 guys for 10 minutes. They could have just captured the core and ended it. This is like high school basketball when one team is severely outmatched and the other team decides to run up the score 150 to 0 instead of showing sportsmanship.

There’s nothing wrong with attempting to win the game when half/most of your opponents’ team quit. But when you just sit there spawn killing them with your entire team of six instead of sending AT LEAST one or two guys to go capture the core, that’s blatant poor sportsmanship. You’re playing an objective game, and instead of going for the objective you’re intentionally griefing the other team. This IS bad form, even if it’s not necessarily ‘against the rules’. Jerkoffs like this don’t deserve to be in matchmaking.

I’m one to say if you get spawn trapped, you get spawn trapped. It sucks and it happens but when the team is blatantly rubbing it in and just killing the clock with killing you during an objective game, that’s where the line is drawn. If you want to play slayer, go play slayer. Kill farmers ruin these games.

I would love this to happen much more often than it does.

Two points on this:

  1. The spawning system needs to be improved so that certain weapons/vehicles and the spawn points are behind one way shields so that they enemy can’t spawn kill the players. Also, they shouldn’t be able to come within a certain distance of the one-way shield.

  2. The community tends to be quite good on invasion, but this can happen. Just accept it and move on. But try to play with as many friends that are willing to play the objective as possible to reduce your problem. Also, set your physc profile settings to ‘Team Player’ and ‘Polite’ to get the best results possible. This has generally worked for me.

Hope this helps you and others!

Look guys this sort of thing has been happening since way back in Halo2! (Burial Mounds…ugh I just got a cold chill.)

It sucks when it happens and well there’s nothing anyone can do about it. These are other human beings after all and no one has the right to tell them how to play a game when they are well within the rules of the game. Plus this is Online gaming and it is what it is.

I’ve noticed that today’s Halo generation has become weak and very whiny over the years. I admit I love to spawn kill opponents and too are guilty of slaughtering defenseless out numbered teams without mercy. Back then and even now days my buds and I would say “Lets Stack’em” meaning dont capture the last flags etc and just stack up as many kills as possible and the one with most kills wins!

I’ve been on the receiving end of this and yeah it really sucks but thats reality. When this happens to me and a friend we simply quit or my other favorite option, “Shoot back and out BR/DMR them and get more kills despite being outnumbered and embarrass them.”

I’ve played games where they try to do this very same spawn kill plan and even though we lose a 4v2 or 6v2, we’d go like 17-20 which is -3 or sometimes even going positive with the highest kills! This would be embarrassing to the winning team and of course we would rub it in their faces! See what we did there? We took a negative outcome and turned against the other team.

This is XBL and this is how the online world works. You cant tell people what they can or cant do with the accounts they paid for. Yeah it sucks and its unsportsman like but still people will always find a way to do this no matter how many times the rules are changed, you just have to deal with it, and if you cant deal with it then I guess your not capable of handling XBL.

On spire when its 6v2 6 being the elites, are we supposed to allow them to capture the zones because that is sportsman like? I don’t think so my team will spawn kill the 2 until they back out or the round is over.

Another valid point is while being out numbered you shouldn’t be that easily pushed back into your spawn to the point that you have a 2 second life.

Quit.

I can’t understand why people feel proud for staying in a game like that and going 0-67

It goes against their “code of honour”.

That’s when you quit.

That’s what I do. One it was 6 on 1. Went towards the Spartan spawn point and didn’t shoot him, once he realised I wasn’t going to pad my stats he stopped firing and we started dancing. The other Elites saw us and started dancing. We all shot the one Elite who was trying to pad his stats. On our round we had already captured the core (which made the other team quit) and there was no way he could win. So we just danced around until the timer ran out.

We had already won, spawnkilling him to pad out stats would have done nothing but irritate him and encourage him to stop playing and even sell Reach. Why buy a game you can’t play?
