Invasion, Lost but not forgotten.

So, I have recently got back into Halo again for the 3rd time. I am a full time college student, but anyways… recently I started playing a lot of BTB and Warzone and it really makes me miss Invasion from Reach. Do you think it would be a good idea to bring it back if the Sangheili/Elites were to come back in Halo Infinite?

Personally I think that it was a great mode and had a lot of ups to it. I really liked the progressive system almost like conquest in the Battlefield series. I think that Warzone is a fun and interesting game mode but it doesn’t feel as immersive to me. For example fighting over the Spire to get the core on Reach was probably one of my fondest memories in Invasion, all around it was a cool scenario that really engaged me to play my hardest and get better.

Absolutely, its my favorite gamemode and would honestly love for it to be a main stay in every game.

Lets hope 343 thinks like us and re-introduces it!

I’m optimistic because of warzone assault in halo 5 being very similar, but in my opinion it doesnt come close to how awesome classic invasion was.

i feel like they tried to replace it with WZA, which can be fun, but suffers population.

If it ever returned, both sides should get a chance on offense/defense.

Is that how invasion was?

It was very based on the maps. If am correct, some maps had UNSC playing defense and others had Covies defending.

Yes, in invasion you played both sides. they also had multiple objective points for each objective so you dont get 24 people trying to charge a single small armory lol.

Yes yes i remember now. i did like that aspect of it. Along with aquiring new weapons after clearing through the firstpart. I think WZA should of done something similair. Limit the reqs based on what base is being captured.

I would be very disappointed to know that an 890 page discussion was thrown in the trash!
Invasion was a gem of beauty, and you’re right! It was lost but not forgotten, they should include it as something big for Infinite, you could advertise that. Most importantly though, bringing back those large scale objective skirmishes between slower but tougher Spartans and the fast but weaker elites was amazing!

Thats why its it’s so difficult to see how they are going to implement it playable elites, cause having them be different from each other, for invasion specifically, created something special. I don’t know, ever since reach, I’ve thought elites should be bigger.
Theres got to be a middle ground they can find. Why not have both sizes? 2 sizes; as tall as Spartans, and a good bit taller.
The taller elites can be played in invasion and the smaller ones can be played in competitive, casual, or invasion if you so wish.

Yeah totally agree. See the thing with Elites is standing straight up they were what like 8-9 feet tall I think. But in the kind of battle/relaxed stance they were a bit shorter. (This is all going off what I think at least, or what would make sense to me) But, I would love to see Invasion be brought back in and if you think about reach even if you had your character set an elite 80% of the multiplayer modes made you a spartan or everyone elites. (Custom games & Firefight being excluded)

I know! Totally. And I don’t want to make this too much like the elite thread but, again, there was a good chunk of the community split on who wanted Elites to be playable in ALL multiplayer modes, and who were people (like me) who just wanted them to be in invasion, which allows 343 to be creatively free with how tall they want their elites to be and what looks cooler as to count in for assassinations, armour and what not.

Really though, people want 343 to take it easy and not take on such hard tasks, but look at what Bungie did!
They literally crafted playable elites from the ground up to be playable in 2 MODES! They animated so many assassinations, animations out the wazzoo and they were barely used.
I praise them for that, 343 can do the same, they are multimillion company game devs not sympathy indie developers.
they can do this!

BUT! If they want to cater to EVERYONE, they should add a size feature which allows you to play as a tall elite (only allowed in casual, invasion, and customs), or a smaller elite, same size as Spartans (usable everywhere else).
That’s What I’m trying to say.
thank you for your passion!

Of course man! glad to see there are people with the same ideas as me! Before we make this “too elite-ish”. I agree with everything man if Bungie can do it so can 343… I mean we have people making fan made games that are doing with not even a quarter of the staff that 343 has, lol.

The only real reason Elites were “bigger” in Reach was because you were a smaller Spartan III, not a Spartan II. That’s the “canon” reason why Bungie didn’t/couldn’t have Elites universally usable like they were in H2/H3. Assuming Infinite is going back to Bungie-style Elites (which seems incredibly likely, given the art style shift, and general fan reaction to the 343 designs), they should be the same relative size to S-IVs as they were, originally. “Canonically” speaking, they should be the same size as our Spartans, again, assuming they still have the slight combat stance “hunch” from H2/H3.

I’d be stoked to see Invasion return, and I think it should stay as a Spartan vs Elite gametype, either way, no question. But in lieu of different sizes, why not simply have different base stats for each side? The vast majority of people asking for playable Elites seem to want a H2/H3 ecosystem where they’re always playable, not relegated to 2 modes like they were in Reach; this way, I feel like it could be the best of both worlds.

I know I know believe me.
I come from the community that loved the elites that were larger then Spartans.
It was pretty cool to tower over them when doing a size comparison.
It made me feel more different then just a player model.
It’s bigger!
I’m Bigger, you know? I loved the Reach way :frowning:
I know it’s a vast part of the community but I don’t want to exclude the people who liked the Reach way, including myself.

But then again I want everyone to be happy. Why can’t we have both sides? Why do we HAVE to make a compromise?

Invasion was such a good game mode and it’s a shame it hasn’t come back yet (but that’s probably because there hasn’t been playable elites since reach). Hopefully it returns for infinite along with playable elites

Best game mode from reach imo and it seemed that a majority of fans liked it so idk why it wasnt brought back

Should they bring back Invasion? Yes.
Will they? No.
Why? Because it’s easier to monetise Warzone.

I love invasion but it requires load outs which many people are against but I for one think set load outs are great and work great for many custom gamemodes

Warzone Invasion could have been a thing in Halo 5. If 343i would just have made Warzone Assualt with a core to retreive instead of a core to destroy. At least it would have felt more like the original Invasion. But with all the Reqs that would be thrown off too. They would wave to make a Warzone Invasion Vanilla with only original weapons, vehicles, and power-ups.

I definitely agree that invasion should come back. There was nothing more immersive than fighting along/against elites on maps that benefited the game mode. I miss that feeling of immersion and I hope it returns in Halo Infinite whether invasion is implemented or not.
