I won’t lie, but I liked Invasion, the objective-based Territories/Assault-esque game mode between Spartans and Elites back in Reach. With a few exceptions, games on Boneyard and Spire were always a lot of fun and a good change up from the usual “Shoot the guy five times in the face with a DMR, then die because someone’s -Yoink!- the Banshee again” that personified a lot of games in Reach (BTB, at least).
That being said, there were some noticeable balance issues regarding Invasion (Needle Rifle was debatably inferior to DMR, and Repeater was DEFINITELY inferior to Assault Rifle), and things like Invasion Slayer and Skirmish were noticeably broken (Spartans -Yoink!- infinitely spawning Scorpions and Rockets, and maps like Paradiso made it too easy to get spawncamped), but the concept of Invasion was really interesting, to the point where there were plenty of Halo groups dedicated to making custom Invasion maps.
… OK, the point of this is, essentially, do you think we could see Invasion, in some form, return to Halo 5?
It’s a possibility, and I’d say it’s worthy of a return, for me it was one of the defining features of the Reach multiplayer. But then again, I wouldn’t blame 343 if they left it out, Reach seemed to leave a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths, and that’s a shame because there were some really great things that game did really well.

And yet they kept and emphasized all the things people hated about Reach for Halo 4 and removed a lot of the things people loved. Not a very good excuse, just really bad design choices.
Yes the plasma “watergun” repeater was a complete joke.
So was the amazing balance of Spartans getting sniper rifles in ordnance and elites getting the focus “pew pew laserz” rifle as its only counter in invasion slayer.
I loved invasion, it was a clever blend of Territories, Assault, and of course Slayer. Progressively earning your way from loadout weapons only to heavy vehicles was genius.
Being one of the few true Offense/Defense gametypes in Halo made it even better; the Elite/Spartan player models just took it to a very cool next level for player animation.
I thought Dominion was a worthy successor to Invasion… it had the accomplishment of objectives, although it was only a short-length version of territories. The Turrets were a cool addition. However, it suffered from too many Power Weapons (so did Halo 4 in general, amirite?), which in turn made the heavy vehicles less potent.
If I had to choose between a wholesale import of Reach Invasion or Halo 4 Dominion, I’d say Invasion every time. But that’s not to say each of them could have a spiritual successor in Guardians that I’d love to play. Give me that fast-paced objective gameplay any day!
it would be amazing if invasion returned it was my favorite gametype. i think spartan vs elite should be the standard for it but i wouldnt mind a spartan vs spartan or elite vs elite variant.
Merge Invasion with Dominion, then we’d have one playlist/gametype and the best of both worlds.
Could have options for a Spartan vs Spartan type, and a Spartan vs Elite type (With the Sangheli team’s turrets being replaced with plasma based ones. Aesthetic only for balance?), and Elite vs Elite types. Everything Invasion had to offer, and everything Dominion had to offer.

I agree. I don’t think there was much balance there at all. Very biased to the Spartans.
Invasion to come back? Sure! I really liked that game type. Some great custom games were created from that as well.
Invasion Slayer, though? No! In my opinion any way
I remember the first portion of it being Spartans with Magnums sniping from the ship while the elites stormed it D-day style with only one person on the elite team lucky enough to grab a needle rifle in order to fight back (lol"weaponcontrol").

true, balance was a big issue with invasion and had bungie or 343 supported it at all it could’ve been updated to be a much better experience. if they put forth the effort and support it enough in halo 5 i think it could one of halos most popular gametypes. i also agree invasion slayer was terrible and dont want it back lol.
Dominion was excellent, and I really don’t know why it wasn’t more popular. But I would definitely support merging Invasion and Dominion together. It would add narrative weight, and to be frank, Invasion, while being cool in the latter stages, the beginning was just territories. Yawn. Adding the forgeable turrets, bases with extra guns and benefits that come with Dominion would make for some epic battles. I really want to see this.
