Invasion 2.0/MMOFPS idea

Please ignore poll, started glitching so I gave up on it.

Disclaimer: Me and my friend have recently been talking about Halo Xbox One and some ideas that could go into it. Bare in mind that the following ideas are mine and my friends opinions on what would be good for either an Invasion 2.0 in Halo Xbox One, or an MMOFPS (seeing as there is a rumour going round about a F2P Halo on Xbox One).

Also bare in mind that these ideas may stray from the “traditional” Halo gameplay mechanics, which is why I am suggesting this as a separate mode or game, and also depends on what the maximum population is per game.

And finally, please read all of it before you post.

Ideas!

In-Game Currency/Points System!

What I mean by this is that everyone can earn currency/points in-game that can be used to buy their own weapons or vehicles, and resets to default if you join a new session or if a new game starts. everyone should start with a default amount of currency/points to buy basic weapons, class or vehicles, such as a DMR or a default warthog at the start of the game.

Currency/points could be earned through kills, assists, objective captures, any medals, and maybe there could be randomly hidden supplies or random supply drops on the map that give you some currency/points.

There would be areas in your base where you would buy your weapons and vehicles (or class) and the ‘weaker’ things would be cheaper than the more powerful things.

There should also be limits to how many of each class, weapon and vehicle can be used and appropriate cooldowns after usage before you can use that certain thing again.

Different Infantry Classes!

In Reach, you could play as either a Spartan or an Elite, depending on your team. My idea is to be able to choose what to play as other than Spartan and Elite. such as a marine or grunt

You should be able to choose what weapons you want for whatever class you are choosing, but some should have restrictions, such as a grunt not being able to use snipers, or Jackals using explosives.

Both sides should have classes matching, such as Spartans matching Elites, and something like this to match Hunters.

Out-of-Game Currency/Points System!

This is basically the same as Reach’s levelling system, but my idea is to have more things to buy, such as armour, armour effects, stances, weapon in stance, and other possible cosmetics to have on your player card.

Some cosmetics should also have one or more certain criteria that should be met before they can be bought, such as reaching a certain level or doing a certain commendation, such as getting max commendation to use that weapon in a stance.

Each class should have cosmetic customisation and you should also be able to choose your favourite class and choose a stance for it to show on your playercard, and maybe your favourite vehicle as well.

Weapon, Vehicle and Class Upgrades

My idea for this basically comes from a mix of Halo Wars and Battlefield, where you upgrade your weapons, armour and vehicles before the game.

You should be able to choose a vehicle upgrade for each vehicle, similar to perks/armour mods, and to make things balanced, you could maybe only choose one upgrade per section, (using the default Warthog as an example) you could maybe choose between things like more armour or more speed if you’re the driver, things like faster cooldown or faster fire rate if your the gunner, and maybe better accuracy or more damage resistance if your passenger.

It would be similar for the weapons, in that you choose one upgrade for each weapon, such as armour piercing rounds(like Reach and 4) or faster fire rate for the sniper, and lock-on ability or bigger blast radius for the Rockets.

With the classes, these should basically act as perks/armour mods, and should constantly be in effect. there could be multiple slots to place for each class but having three categories like Halo 4.

These upgrades should also only affect the player that bought them, so even if someone else buys a warthog or weapon and you go to use it, your upgrades would still work.

All upgrades should gained from using that certain weapon or vehicle, except for infantry perks/armour mods which should all be available from the start but maybe require purchasing.

Invasion Combined with Dominion!

The concept of Dominion could be combined with Invasion to make a new gamemode.

Both teams should have an unchangeable base where they can always spawn without worrying about being spawn killed, and there should be at least 3 other points on the map in which you can capture to earn points to win.

There could also be turrets and other upgrades to buy using the in-game currency/points to help defend the base.

Just to be clear!

  • This was mainly based on it being a gamemode for Halo Xbox One, as some things would change for an MMOFPS, such as micro-transactions, bigger maps, more bases to capture, etc.
  • I may have missed out some things or some things could be changed so please leave feedback on what you think is good or should be added/changed
  • Again, these are just Ideas

Haven’t really formed an opinion on this all - yet - but I can speak on Invasion/Dominion.

I think Dominion was a great evolution of Invasion. I miss Invasion dearly, but this was a good replacement. In reality it’s very similar, the only differences being the Invasion character models, turn-based starts, and gating between objectives.

If they could combine the two for Halo 5, we’d have something special indeed.

I really like your currency idea. Sort of like a Hybrid of Halo’s Invasion and Gears of War’s hoard mode. Shame, if they were to do something like this all of the forum trolls would complain that they copied it from Gears >.>

Having Marines, ODST and Spartan players on the UNSC team.

Having Grunt, Jackal, Skirmisher, Elite, Brute, Hunters and maybe Drones on the Covenant team

Maybe have a Promethean knight teams with: normal knight, Lancer and Battlewagon maybe not the Commander because of he is using the incineration cannon.

Prometheans:

  • Have no radar.
  • Connot pick up weapons.
  • Maybe instant kill with the arm blade
  • Can send out a watcher that is only following you.
  • They run a little bit slower then Spartans.
  • They can Teleport back to safe area and have a long recharge.
  • Stronger shield then spartan and elites

1st stage:
Only standard Knights

2nd stage:
Knights and Lancer

3rd stage:
Knight, Lancer and Battlewagon

A lot of other games have this system though, especially MMOFPS’s such as Planet Side 2, which was my main source of the in-game currency idea.

I think Dominion was a competitive take on a naturally casual gametype. I feel Invasion was more unique and fun because of its complexity. Dominion was more of an evolution of three plot than Invasion. I would rather Invasion return than Dominion personally.

Why not have both Invasion and Dominion? There like Battlefields Rush and Conquest modes.
