Credit where it’s due, my brother actually pointed this out to me. He noticed that the SPARTAN-IVs have unusual undersuits.

Notice the difference?
Master Chief’s undersuit is completely black, where as the SPARTAN-IVs’ appear to be painted in the same colour as the player’s primary armour colour in some places.

I hardly have an opinion on it. It’s certainly not the make or break of Halo 4 either haha. But I was just wondering what you guys think about it?

Yeah, I noticed that too. I can’t say I like it too much though, since there’s really no reason for a Spartan to colour his soft armour and it just looks silly.
Still, I’m sure I’ll get used to it and kudos to your brother for noticing this too!

Color the IV’s undersuit black and take off the armor…and we got a Nano suit. -_-
Yeah I noticed that too recently. I think it looks goofy, but I’m willing to bet that it’s customizable
maybe the color change for the undersuit is like the secondary color in previous games
Doesn’t bother me, but I think keeping the under armor black would break up/alternate the primary color more and make it slightly more appeasing to the eye.
I think the spartan IV models we’ve seen so far have just been set to one primary color so as not to spoil the possible customization options we have for colors.
Hopefully it’s customization. I like having black underneath my armor as opposed to the primary color. If it is, this is very good news.
what on earth is going on with the spartan IVs’ left arms, the armor on the underside of the forearms makes it look awkward as all hell
They should have stuck with one color or the other. The mix of black and primary color looks goofy.

And I doubt it’s customization. 343 probably had Rooster Teeth keep everything at default.
Good eyes never noticed this and now I’m not sure how I feel about it. Hopefully they allow you customize the color of the undersuit to some degree.
For a canonical reason, perhaps the undersuit has an adaptive camo feature that matches the color scheme of the armor OR surroundings? Perhaps the color of the armor could be explained as having adaptive camo for training, to explain why there are red and blue Spartans, and real-time use in the field too.
Is it just me or are the Spartans too team-color-ish with the soft armor and finger armor etc. all being bright blue or red?
I’m sure they’re easier to see competitively but they sure are colorful for it . . .

It’s for customization purposes, and I assume that things like the lights will be customizable too, in the R vs B video the Spartans all have white lights, but in the magazine scans the lights are red, it’s all for the customization. I’m sure you can set it to black if you want to, and get a different chest plate that covers up that area if you want, it’s all default at the end of the day.
As long as we can choose what colour it is, I think it’s okay.
