interesting idea for the BR. and use for the d-pad

Use the canon-version BR. With single shot(to please the DMR lovers), burst, and full auto. This could also replace the AR as a far more effective weapon. Thoughts?

Sorry, forgot to add: and you press up or down on the d pad to change firing mode

There wouldn’t be much point to have it at single shot against shielded enemies. In a game of SWAT, a BR with single burst fire would be godly.

The BR in the games is the canon version. It’s just that you can’t change it off fully auto. The Assault Rifle is probably semi auto and burst fire too. It’s just that we can’t change them.

BR shouldn’t have full auto, it should be a burst and semi only weapon. The AR should only have burst and full auto.

Single shot: great against grunts. Why use 3 rounds where all you need is 1?

In canon, the Battle Rifle has Full-Auto, Semi-Auto and Burst Fire modes, though they only use Burst in the games for game balance and to make it different from the other weapons. If the Battle Rifle returned, they’d make it burst fire still because that’s part of what makes the Battle Rifle the Battle Rifle.

Same with the Assault Rifle. They’ll keep it fully auto because that’s what makes the Assault Rifle the Assault Rifle.

I rather it be burst fire from the hip and single shot while zoomed, so much simpler than switching with the d-pad.

So you basically want it to fill the roll of three weapons and become an overpowered mess? No thanks.

> So you basically want it to fill the roll of three weapons and become an overpowered mess? No thanks.

no, i want it to be the effective tool of battle it “really” is. ok, it may be a bit overpowered in mpm, but think about it in campaign. you can go from taking out a grunt (or H4 grunt-equivalent) with single mode, to spraying infection forms with full auto, to bringing down an elite with 3 round burst.

A BR with anything other than a 3 shot burst is Insolence!

if it were a single shot in multiplayer you would need 15 hits to kill and not 5

So basically the OP wants to kill 2, 3… 4 weapons of Halo’s unique weapon sandbox with this idea and turn the BR into an overpowered mess in order for it to be realistic?

Sigh.

Or they could just stick to simplicity and give different weapons different roles.

I just wish the BR/DMR/Magnum were more the utility weapon it SHOULD be and less the end all juggernaut they are. They shouldn’t be simply BETTER than other basic weapons, rather they should be only be better than other weapons outside their intended areas of use. There is no legitimate reason a BR should beat an AR in a close range fight.

no, not the case at all. all it would effectively replace is the MA5. and i dont see whats bad about that. people have been complaining about the AR for years.

this. I’ve always wanted to see how the pre-beta halo 2 BR would have worked in MM.

Everyone complained when the AR was removed in Halo 2. It’s the mascot weapon of Halo and likely isn’t going anywhere. Each weapon in the games has a single function, removing weapons and adding their function onto another will make an overpowered weapon, even in campaign. Things would just become too easy.

This.

That’ll REALLY hurt the sandbox and make the game seem like it has little variety
