Interesting article about Halo 5's T rating...

Here is an article I just read about Halo 5’s T rating. I do not know if this has been discussed here before bu I have never seen an interesting take like this concerning the T rating. Personally the T rating doesn’t bother me. However, for tradition, I would like to have kept it M rated. Oh, well. What do you think about the points brought up in the article. Do you agree or do you disagree?

Slightly off topic, but in the UK Halo has always been rated 16+, and Halo 5 is rated 16+. No tradition broken over here! If I’m honest I’m pretty certain the people who rate it are just being more chill with their ratings. Halo has never had excessive gore, bad language or sexual content, so why the M? (Btw what is the actual age restriction on M games over in the US?

I’m more confused to how Halo 4 didn’t get a T rating.

Probably because of the scene where humans are literally turned into digital ash, as you see their skin, muscle and bone dissolve while their screaming.

I’d rather ratings accurately reflect the content of the game rather be around for tradition.

For M games it is 17+.

Yea. While not being overly gorey per se, it was a pretty graphic scene. That wad probably the M.

Imagine if Bungie bribed ESRB to rate their games 7 for ‘tradition’.

Lol

Why are people discussing the fact that I said I wanted Halo 5 rated M for tradition, when the purpose of this thread is to alk about the points made in the article I linked? So frustrating…

Cortana’s butt. That’s also how we lost Campaign Theater I think, which still didn’t make sense, because it was rated M, lol…

Rated T to help attract eSports sponsors? It’s a thought I suppose, although like the article says, CoD and CS do just fine with an M rating, as did Halo 2/3.

I think its just a coincidence though. Flood got the original trilogy the M rating, and ODST, Reach and 4 all had relatively dark/graphic scenes, or at least ones that could push over a conversative rater: ODST had Romeo getting gravity hammered, Reach had a lot of dead civvies and character deaths, and 4 had the Composer scene.

I judt wanted the M rating so i didn’t need my parents supervision and approval to get Halo 5.

This video nailed it on the head:

No one has bribed the ESRB.

I don’t think that’s why Halo 4 was rated M or why there wasn’t campaign theatre.

Yeah but they also said that LoL and Dota get way more publicity than M rated games.
