If anyone might be interested in learning about MLG or playing their settings, send a friend request to, Can of Pringles I know there are some talented players on this forum that might be interested in trying out the new settings. A little about me: I’m a calm, easy going Halo player, and I’ve been playing competitively since 2006. It doesn’t matter your skill level I just want people that are interested in playing MLG’s settings. I’m just here to share my knowledge and show the Halo community that MLG isn’t full of 12 year old’s that rage and talk s**t to people with lesser skill.

Thanks have a wonderful day.

Add me, same boat as you

Since you have been playing for so long, you may have a perspective on something that I have been curious about for awhile.

Do you think MLG will ever grow beyond the settings of Halo 2/3 or have they locked themselves down within that era as the peak of competitive settings?

@ plunderfull

A few months ago, MLG was trying to make basic settings. However, they realized with last season that they need to expand. The second to last event of halo reach only had 90 teams, and the national championship only had 65.

They decided to dramatically relook over what they were doing and revamp the settings to be more fun than they were in the past, adding better maps and a bunch of other features, including the shotgun back to the game.

Right now there are 152 teams registered so if that tells you anything about how much they have been trying to change their ways and appeal to the community then I don’t know what else there is.

I encourage you to watch the event this weekend to see this game that we all love played at the highest level. If for nothing else, this may be our last event on the circuit, so even if you don’t agree with MLG or it isn’t your forte, you should still support it simply because it is supporting halo as a whole.

Participation is key to their success, I truly hope the find a way to attract more players, it would be a shame to see MLG wither and die due to disinterest. I have my ideas on what could help, but Im afraid it runs counter to the current mindset of MLG.

Good, more maps and weapons should help.

It might, but Im not sure what the level of participation was at their peak, so Im afraid I am unaware if this good, bad or the same.

In general, voyeurism is not my thing, however I have found myself with an abundance of extra time, so I may just do that =) cheers!

Wut? It was the complete opposite. Last season was a new style of MLG, that included sprint starts, evade, forged maps, and bloom, all new mechanics, the season bombed.

Yes, they changed the settings to expand, because the settings last season were so dismal and people hated bloom and sprint. The settings were going back to the older days. The V7 settings now are the closest settings to H2 style play we have seen, just like the shotgun, no sprint/bloom, and maps from Anniv.

Halo 3 was seen as a weakpoint of competitive play, so really its more Halo CE/2. If there are mechanics which help competitive play, then yes it will be incorporated, just like we have with Reach, such as the Nade Launcher and Jet pack on the maps.

We tried expanding abit more with Sprint and evade, but that, along with bloom, turned away players, and more importantly, viewers, which is why Halo’s position is uncertain at the moment. At the end of last season we had 60 teams, compared to H2 and H3 where 256 team passes would sell out in a day.

And YES, tune into the stream, I’d reccomend Saturday or Sunday for you, FFA friday might be dull to a new viewer, you should try play the playlist for abit (yes I know you dont like it, but if we get a full team, the annoying playlist types can just be muted).

Wow, Im stunned that Halo 3 is considered so lowly among MLG, my impression was that Halo 3 represented MLGs peak of popularity and participation.

I bet it had a lot to do with the fact that MLG closely resembled the game at the time. I would think using settings from over half a decade ago is a huge roadblock to bringing in new player from the current Halo player pool.

I will dedicate a half hour or more this weekend to watching the feed, promise.

Oh really? MLG have been looking into different options and competitive gametypes?

Huh, this may change my overall negative view of MLG around, provided that they remain openminded and can keep their aggressive fanbase in check.

Wow theses guys are pretty ace on what happens in MLG and i like how they are looking into more Game types. I think it would be pretty interesting to have a Slayer VIP kind of idea for a competitive playlist.

With who asked if MLG is stuck on certain settings from the Halo 2 and Halo 3 era, I would say they some people are. I think some people from our community are stuck in this mindset that the br is the end all be all weapon. I mean the main thing that MLG tries to accomplish is having fair and balanced gameplay so you defend yourself off the spawn and have a chance against rockets/sniper. But I still think the sandbox could still be expanded and some weapons to be added to increase the depth of close quarter battles.

A lot of our community is pumped for the return of the br, but I don’t think that its return will be revolutionary or prompt MLG setting changes. I’m more excited about 343’s mentioning of a single shot weapon. And hopefully Halo 4 has less weapons than Halo 2, 3, and Reach, because then each weapon can fit a need or an area similar to Halo 1’s sandbox.
