Interactive objects in Multiplayer maps

EDIT: Been a long time since I brought this up, and I am disappointed to see that nothing like this was implemented.

What are your thoughts on this idea now that the game is out? Do you think the mechanics would work with this idea or would it only make the game more frustrating?

I would LOVE to see this more in maps and maybe even Forge!

Pretty much just what you said, Doors, Bridges ect.

I’m sure they’ll supprise us in some way…

I freaking loved that in Halo 3!!! It opened up a lot of options for making Community Maps as well, I wish that would make a return. And that it is implemented in more than like the two maps that had that feature in Halo 3.

Zanzibar comes to mind. And yes I would love that feature to come back.

I hope they do include stuff like that. That would be pretty cool.

Yes please!

I think Forge tools will be great too! Cinematic directors will love it i’m sure, and think of the effect on infection maps!

I would really like to see more feedback on this, any other thoughts or opinions?

I was thinking more along the lines of Security from Gears 2 where you had to lower the lazer grid while you team runs in to go the mulcher. That might be cool.

I was thinking more along the lines of instead of pressing a button you shoot something, just for faster gameplay. Here’s one example. You’re playing an objective based map. There’s two major landmasses with each base on either side. These are connected by two bridges. You’re on one with your opponent on the other. The enemy has your flag and is taking a warthog across the bridge back to their base. But using your dmr/br you shoot a detonator on the bridge, making a hole, not large enough to stop safe passage on foot, but renders it impassable by vehicle, effectively buying your team more time. (If it completely made the bridge impassable that would not work IMO, it would slow the game to much.) I’d like these sort of interactions to be used effectively in the heat of battle, while not drastically favoring one team.

Extending a bridge would be very interesting. Especially if its a main holding point. I would love to see more interactive maps.

It was kind of interesting when they actually spawned the map (High Ground) with the gate closed. They were able to make entire new game types where one team would defend the base and try to keep the other team from getting through and opening the base. I think it could be really cool to see this type of game return in Halo 4.

Also I feel like this interactive game play could really be utilized for competitive play, even as far as MLG. If each team had a bridge or a gate or something that could be interacted with in order to change the layout of the map during the game it could really effect teams strategies. A losing team could have a much better chance of getting back in the game by opening up one side of the map, keeping games closer and really making the game come down to who used the tools available to them the best in order to win. Teams could also decide what type of strategy they want to utilize by either deciding to keep their gate/bridge closed or open.

Another thing that could be done is making the release for these interactive pieces of the map only work for the team who spawns on that side of the map. For example, only the blue team would be able to lower their bridge and/or open their gate whereas only the red team would be able to interact with their side of the map. Therefor allowing the teams to choose what kind of strategy they want to have on their side of the map.

Sure it was cool.

I miss Turf. I remember in turf you can hit the post and it falls to make a bridge and how the doors open and close when you go up to them.

This was in Halo 3 as well. It should come back in Halo 4 for sure, only it should be even more apart of the game. We might be able to finally make some what functional structures in Forge.

You mean like:

“Hold X to release Flood form”

“Hold X to deactivate shielding dome”

“Hold X to open hangar doors”

“Hold X to activate Scarab”

“Hold X to call in airstrike”

In multiplayer games, specific to maps, I think these could work.

That stuff just adds extra things to network. It’s problematic to keep synced and interact properly with physics etc. That’s why they didn’t do it really in Reach.

I don’t think this would be too difficult, it doesn’t have to be very elaborate, just closing a door or turning off a man-cannon. It would be ,map specific and tested before used. Maybe set up for only certain game types.

make it happen 343i, id also like to see stuff like on that halo 2 city map (sorry cant think of the name now) where if I jumped on a beam hanging from a crane, the beam would shift balance with my weight.

Didn’t Zanzibar have two of these things? It had the wall you could detonate to create a bridge and it had the big door in the base that could be opened. I believe that the window shutters were also manipulable.

I would definitely like to see more of these things. It made for interesting and dynamic gameplay.
