Interactive Multiplayer Maps

OK, i loved all the maps from Halo 3 and when Reach came out although i loved it i realised something was missing.

I am talking about, after all, not the BR; nor the beam rifle, chopper, or any other cool weapons or vehicles. I am talking about interactive maps.

The gate and hatch on High Ground.
The bridge on Last Resort.
The doors on Orbital.
Doors on Standoff.
and many more that i’ve missed.

These little things altered the gameplay and flow of the map, such as trying to get the gate open on High Ground to allow easier access for the team on the beach, and i couldn’t believe it when there was nothing like this on Reach.

It needs to return to make maps fun and unique again. Invasion could’ve worked soo much better if these things were incorporated into the maps.

If these switches, doors, cover perhaps? and other things were accessable on maps it could really create a fun experience.

Perhaps forerunner turrets on some maps that pop out of walls and shoot anything for 30 seconds, with a 2 min recharge time? with the switch on the opposite side of the map?

Or how about a big team amp set in a hotel on Earth (just an example) and have the elevator work like in real life, with switches for each floor.

or a generator that lights up a dark map, you could turn it on and off so the map becomes practically pitch black. this could make for some fun invasion and infection games, especially if they flick on and off before going off.

We need to see this sort of variety to create unique maps, maps that we remember, maps that arefun…

Mpa these things forgable too. like a teleporter works; you have a door and you link it to a switch that you place somewhere else. not that hard really, if a teleporter works then what stops a door working?

Thanks for reading, maybe 343i have already thought about it, maybe not but there still map be time to implement this idea

I have to agree these little interactions in maps I do miss. It would be nice if some map interactions not only changed game play like they do in Halo 3 but also hide secrets too.

so like on Gears 3 on checkout? you press the button and fight to the fire extinguisher?

i like this idea a lot

it would make people not just run straight to the power weapons, you would actually have to press the switch and run to get it an hope that it hasn’t been stolen.

it should make team work much more involved, making people lookout for each other.

Off topic a little:
i think we should be able to sport enemies like in gears 3, people just don’t help out when in a fight.

-Yoink!-! I was just about to make a thread supporting this, oh well.

But yea, spotting enemies would be cool.

I liked the interactive maps alot because they added something different to the map also death barriers like sandtrap and the snowy covenant base were very cool to see and try to evade aswell so I would love to see interactive maps in halo 4

I haven’t played Gears 3 so i wouldn’t know hahaha but yeah having to interact with the maps to get to a weapon or an advantage point.(seen a few post about map control) it would add to gameplay and be a nice feature.

I would love these back, but with also some none gameplay effecting things, such as weather changing or something in the distance exploding. I don’t know, things like that.

Truth. Reach is sorely lacking in this department. Also needs more large physics based objects like the tipping beam on Headlong or swinging platform on Midship.

Oh yeah, Terminal.

I agree with what everyone else has said, i miss interactivity in maps a ton!!!

Totally agree, funny how those maps are favourites too. Especially for objective games!

I’d like to see some book canon made into interactive map features too, e.g.

  1. Switch activated plates in the ground or walls that lock-up Spartan armour. Add a long recharge time and short activation but this would make for some interesting teamwork aspects.

  2. Self detonating armour on death. Short fuse and grenade like explosion. Makes enemies recovering your weapons a short timed affair where weapons are damaged beyond use after detonation.

  3. Weapon damage, shoot an enemies weapon enough and it damages to be inaccurate or unusable. Also you can shoot weapons that are sitting on the map/spawn. Imagine shooting the rockets so an enemy become inaccurate or because you can’t get there before they do.

  4. Walls, ceilings or floors that can be blown up completely, awesome for objective games but obviously has to be loud and attention attracting and only in a certain few spots.

You should be able to repair them or switch them back off or close the door again or whatever. And in forge have doors with switches and also in forge have automatic doors.
