By interactive maps, I mean maps that have components in play that can be manipulated by the players. Obviously examples include Sandtrap and Standoff. Sandtrap had the Elephants and those made for some excellent encounters and strategies in Slayer and Objective gametypes. Who didn’t drive their Elephant to the opposite end of the map to try and plant a bomb or capture a flag faster? Standoff had the bases with switches that could open up other ways inside the base and leave certain portions exposed. That made for hectic games of CTF and what have you.
This is one of the big things I missed in Reach, no other map really offered the same concept. With Halo 4, I can imagine some decent ideas. Perhaps one map could have a central light bridge that can be turned on and off by the opposing teams? Maybe one map could have Flood forms roaming around presenting a hazard? And now that we have the Mammoth, could Sandtrap make a return in some form?
Should this return?
YES YES YES!!! I loved Halo 3’s interactive maps. Specially Highground. I made an awesome forge map using that interactive gate!!! Interactive maps are just cool, I wish they were interactive in matchmaking too.
Definitely.
I hope for small forgeable objects to interact with as well, to give custom maps that same feeling.

Love that idea. It reminds me of the hilarious deaths I’ve had with Arbiter being swarmed by flood spores on higher levels. He’d just instantly roll over and make a hilarious yelp. There should be map traps.
If they aren’t in Halo 4, then they BETTER BE IN HALO 5!!!
And yes I hope there is a Sandtrap-ish map with the mammoths. I also want a huge Avalache-ish map too. I freaking loved that map!!! Man Halo 3 had so many good maps!
I’m all for interactive maps but, I don’t think they should present a hazard.
Even if this does sound like Battlefield, could you imagine destructible environments? Imagine being able to blow up the wind turbine on Last Resort (Zanibar).
Yes 100%… we need to put the life back into maps again.
Agreed 100% as long as the effects aren’t OP.
Destructible Environments. Maybe the mech is destroyable in Adrift.
I believe I could support this to a certain extent. Halo 2 Zanzibar and Halo 3 High ground were great examples. CTF and Assault games on those maps got hectic when the doors opened up.

Well, I mainly base that particular idea on Star Wars: Battlefront. Some maps had a neutral NPC faction that would go around. The Tatoonie map has the Sarlacc pit and Tusken Raiders. I could see a map with a short route to the enemies side, but have a danger. Obviously they wouldn’t be meant for true competitive play, but for Objective, why not?
