they should have two buttons. one that says “Agree” and one that says “disagree”. when clicked, it would say “x-# of users Agree/Disagree with [insert name here]”
or maybe have Thank, Agree, and Disagree. Thank for a helpful post, so you can thank the person. and Agree/Disagree for discussion/argument posts so you can agree or disagree.
mmmm…meh. like seems worse than thanks. i think the agree/disagree/thank system would be much better.
examples:
you ask a question. someone answers it well. you “thank” them.
youre discussing something in a topic. you agree with something someone says. you “aggree”
youre discussing something in a topic. you disagree with something someone says. you “disagree”.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
now, you might ask, “why not just thank/agree/disagree in a reply?”
the thank/agree/disagree system would show just how helpful one is in the forums. it would appear on their mini-profile thing next to their posts. how many thanks, how many agreements, and how many disagreements they recieved.
On EVERY forum ive ever been on thats had a thank/rep system, the whole thing has descended into a cliquey -Yoink!- popularity contest. Thanks system is just a catalyst for faction forming. Sound familiar?
Just get rid of it. If people like and agree with your post then they should post themselves and say why. I dont participate in the thank system anymore. And i say that as someone who has recieved hundreds of “thanks”

I do not mind the thank system. Although I am always happy to know that my posts are liked. Usually you cannot know that because many users refuse to post or do not have anything to comment about and want just to silently say “Thanks” and then go their way.
