When I saw the preview for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta I was like “OMGZ DA ARMOR ABILITEEZ LOOK FRIGGEN SHWEET!”, but it turns out they kinda ruined the game. AAs were not implemented well at all. The idea was…ok, but they altered the gameplay too much for true Halo fans.
What I DON’T Want to propose in this thread is that Halo needs to go back to Halo 3 and not change at all. That is what I hear a lot of people saying, but the truth is, nastalgia may make you love the past games, but things have to stay fresh, so changes are essential. Yes, I love the original trilogy (especiall H2), but the franchise must evolve somewhat with each game.
I think that AAs should be out. Some people think sprint should stay, but I believe even this changes the game too much to make it “not Halo”. My idea gives individuals a sense of an upgrade by simply enhancing their present abilities rather than providing new ones. What we should have now to appease both traditionalists and people pushing for change is more powerups. Just like Active Camo and Overshield have worked so well in the past, we can simply add more to keep the game interesting. For example, we can have…
Camo…duh
Overshield…duh
Strength: Makes you do 150% damage for the duration of the powerup
Speed: makes you move faster for the duration of the powerup
Jump: makes you able to jump higher for the duration of the powerup.
I’m just throwing out ideas. Of course I don’t expect these to truly be implemented since 343i has their own ideas, but I just wanted to share. These I believe will act as fun little upgrades without altering the gameplay too much like AAs do.
If you guys have any ideas of your own powerups post them here.
Thanks for reading!
Thoughts?
I’d be alright with armor abilities, but just if they were not in matchmaking.
As long as they’re power-ups that you have to pick up, and not spawn with, then I’m fine with it. Sounds good.
Yeah that’s what I mean. Pickups on the map, you wouldn’t spawn with them.
Basically, Copy from Crysis?
As someone else said, don’t put AA’s in Matchmaking. Make a couple AA playlists but keep the main playlists free of AA’s.
I agree with most of what you said, but I think it is better just to have sprint rather that a speed pickup or jump pickup (simplistic), although I wouldn’t really mind them, I just hate all other aa’s. I was also hyped up about armor abilities but the only one that was decent and did not ruin gameplay for me was sprint. As Prince said, if some people really want aa’s they should add separate playlists for them. I would NOT like to see them mandatory in every gametype and playlist. I don’t want another reach or halo anniversary, I want another Halo 3, and I believe 343i should stay true to the other halos (before reach) since Reach was just an addition to the storyline explaining the past. Although I don’t get how the spartans in Reach are more advanced in technology that Halo 3 spartans
I dont think Armor Abilities ruined the game… Reach was ruined because the core point-and-shoot game play mechanic was poorly done. Pointing-and-shooting is the foundation of a FPS game, and Reach’s mechanic was sloppy, awkward, and completely unrewarding. “out shooting” someone in Reach is more like a rock paper scissors match.
imo Halo 4 needs a better FPS foundation
Less auto-aim / aim-magnetism
Smaller true-to-image hitboxes
aiming reticle placed in middle of the screen
60 frames/s frame rate
wider field of view
- contents wise
shorter time-to-kill akin to Halo CE & Halo 2
since there are smaller hitboxes & less auto aim - provide weapons with inherent high-accuracy.
