Instant respawn was in Unreal Tournament

I actually hated this idea, and whilst I’m still not happy about it overly, but shortly after voting for “against” in a thread about It, I’ve come to realise that Unreal Tournament actually had instant respawn times.

Unreal Tournament, you know one of the best First person shooters ever invented and the King of Arena shooters , actually had instant respawn, and that game was freaking awesome, oh how I love that game.

People seem to think it’s a CoD feature, But I think 343 may have looked to Unreal Tournament and saw that it worked in that.

Capture the flag and Domination worked like a charm in Unreal, so it’s making me wonder if it might be ok in some game modes in Halo.

Didn’t Quake, too? The most competitive FPS ever? I’m certainly not against instant respawn, but I think it should be limited to FFA modes. Objective games wouldn’t work, and it isn’t in those. But I think spawn times in Team Slayer is fine, it punishes you for dying.

Yes I think it was, I think it may have it’s place somewhere in Halo, I agree it shouldn’t be every game mode, but it could work in some game modes, I think me suddenly remembering that should get it into peoples heads that actually, It could be viable due to it working in Unreal Tournament.

The thing is that’s UT, this is Halo.
Or at least I think it is.

thanks, now i have an appetite for sniping people on Facing Worlds. see what you’ve done?!

I still play that map with first to score 99 :stuck_out_tongue: I love that map, the Redeemer was such a beast

Low gravity and super jump also made that map even more awesome, and I loved sniping the spawn, was so fun, constant monster kills!

MMMMMMMMMMMMOH, MOH, MOH,MOH, MOH,MOH, MOH,MOH, MOH, MONSTER KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL!

Insagib is awesome on that map too haha

The first thing I thought when I saw the gameplay of H4 was: This looks like a mix of Halo and UT. So OP might be onto something.

HEADSHOT! HEADSHOT! hahaha, so epic!

While your right OP in fact most shooters have instant respawn, but most of those shooters dont have regenerating shields! The scenario with Halo is, you could win a battle by the enemies base and be no shields, and then 2 seconds later the enemy you killed respawns and cleans you up!

I think instant respawns could work in FFA and maybe some specific slayer gametypes, but not across the board obviously.

You see what I like about the longer respawn rates is it allows for spawn prediction and it allows your team to push up on the enemy, so the enemy is punished if he dies in middle as he relinquishes map control to you’re team. Another thing is if you take down the sniper, the longer respawns allow you to push up on the enemy and take their sniper thus punishing deaths and resulting in dynamic gameplay where map control is constantly shifting.

Like I said, FFA modes would be fine with it but im not sure about standard slayer.

instant respawn would work in something like slayer, but not in gametypes such as CTF for obvious reasons.

Whichever game the concept was in before doesnt matter, it matters how well it works in halo, which isnt well in most gametypes.

OP: You failed to account for the fact that since CoD did it first and Halo didn’t already have it, and that any change to Halo is bad, instant respawn is bad. No matter if awesome FPSers of year gone by had it.

… Halo and Quake/Unreal Tournament is so different in speed that they can’t even be compared (at least not with Reach) and that is why it works in Quake and Unreal Tournament 1-3. In only a moment of seconds you can get over from 1 side of the map to another. I mean, rocket jump from one side of the map to another.

The games have things placed around on the map which actually (Both Armor and Weapons) encourages map movement. Things like “more armor” spawns like every minute.
