Instant respawn is stupid, please remove.

I love this game, I really do. I don’t find anything else a problem except for instant respawn. Here’s why:

  1. It renders killcams useless since no one will watch them if they can just respawn instantly, very rarely do I bother to watch them.

  2. It makes broken spawn points even more annoying since people can spawn right next to you straight away ( broken spawns like in Adrift).

  3. The only consequence to dying now is the enemy team gaining points, when it used to be a case of, if you die the enemy team gets kills AND has time to move into a better position.

  4. Its annoying to get the person you killed come back and kill you 3 seconds later.

  5. Also causes players to be more reckless.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve pulled multikills off the same guy in Swat thanks to instant respawn.

Oh yeah this, give reasons as to why you want it to be gone or want it to stay.

Honestly, I have a love-hate relationship with it.

I personally love it for myself, especially on Swat. I’m typically a very vengeful person, if you kill me I do everything I can to hunt you down and kill you back. Instant respawn makes this much easier to do and I find that I greatly enjoy that aspect. Plus if my team is struggling I have more of a chance to protect my team instead of waiting to respawn while they are getting killed (in Swat, I’m usually one of the better players).

However, I absolutely HATE instant respawn when all my teammates are doing is:
-Run to the middle of the map
-Usually get killed on the way there
-If not they get killed once they are there
-Button mash x, x, x, x, x, x, x.
-Run to the middle of the map

…this PISSES me off more than you can possibly imagine. Honestly, what they need to implement is it being a reward. Say you get a killing spree, you have unlocked instant respawn. If you haven’t gotten at least 5 kills before you die…then you don’t get instant respawn. That would save us from the morons who do nothing but run out and be killed. And listen, I’m not bashing on someone who isn’t good at Halo. The thing is, I remember not being good at Halo, I stayed back, took my time, worked on my reflexes, etc. I have no problem getting put on a team with someone who isn’t very good. My problem is getting put on a team with idiots who couldn’t die any more if they were just running and jumping off the map the whole time.

I know some people are probably going to disagree with me on the grounds of “Don’t reward a good player so they have even more of an advantage over the others”. The thing is, instant respawn isn’t going to win you a game. Honestly, if you only ever got it after a killing spree, it’d be nothing more than a “Oh yah, I don’t have to wait 5 seconds, yay!”. Not “I don’t have to wait 5 seconds so I’m go to go utterly destroy the whole team and win the game because of this unfair advantage”.

I shouldn’t be able to come back and continue my multi-kill streak. On two occassions in infinity slayer, I was killed right after a double kill and as soon as I respawned near the guy I was killed by, I finished him off, got a triple kill.

Yeah, I’ve had this happen to me, too, and it’s just wrong. You die, you lose your multikill streak. That’s how it’s been and that’s how it should be.

Same thing has happened to me many times, its really stupid.

Instant respawn works well in some games.

Halo is not one of them.

Works fine in Team Slayer and BTB. I could care less that it’s there. Because killing is how those modes work. As for the objectives gametypes like Dominion and CTF, Instaspawns are disabled, which is rightfully so.

The only playlist I can see it as acceptable is FFA. In team games you should be required to wait at least x seconds, where x is like 5 seconds in Slayer and 7 in Objective.

SWAT is really the only place it belongs because SWAT is the only place without shields.

Yeah, at first I didn’t mind/was indifferent…but now? Yeah, now it ruins the flow of the game. Teams often just become a travelling respawn ball, which negates any attempt at tactics other than ‘LEEEEERROOOOYYYYY!’ mentality.

And yeah, on SWAT it really narfs everything up.

I don’t care whether killcam stays or not, but I would now actually be quite happy for instant respawn to go.

At the very minimum it needs a 2, maybe second timer. Instant spawns is OP, I can clean up my own kills before they even recharge their shields.

Instant spawns as far as i know are only in slayer variants. In games like CTF you got to wait 5-7 seconds. I’m fine with this.

also You have always been able to continue your multikills even after death the only requirement for them is to get them 4 seconds in between eachother.

Also for those complaining about spawning next to people thats not instant spawns fault. Thats just horrible spawns in general.

Instant respawn is fine for what Infinity Slayer is. It is intended to be a chaotic, casual experience. I would like to be able to disable instant respawn, though. It has no place in playlists that are intended to be “competitive” like Slayer Pro. It destroys any notion of superior positioning or map control even worse than Jetpack did in Reach.

Granted, I also don’t like the fact that capturing a flag in CTF requires your team to be down a player.

I can only agree with the author of this thread : instant spawn sucks, it makes the game as chaotic as possible with people spawning and running everywhere.

I really hope that 343i will remove it in competitive playlists or at least that they will give us the option to remove it in customs.
