Installation 04 easter egg!

Hey everyone! As some of you may know, today is 343 day (343rd day of the year). In celebration, I decided to play my first game of Firefight on the Installation 04 map that came with Anniversary. I figured I’d go into Theater mode after the game to recap and go easter egg hunting. I successfully got out of the map, and after spending about a half an hour just flying around to different areas outside the map with the pan cam, I came across this:

I can’t describe how excited I got when I found that. What do you guys think?

Nice find.

Nice find OP, i didn’t even know about that. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder what it could mean? Perhaps leftover assets? I mean it could be those Longswords that just drop off power weapons at the start of each set. Would interesting if another lone Longsword is found on other FF maps as well.

It’s more than likely sitting there waiting for when it does a fly over. Not really an easter egg but interesting, nevertheless.

Ω

Very Nice!

Sweet. Starfox lookin!

Very interesting speculation, and I will try to verify that. However, I was playing Arcade Fight where there are no weapon drops, and it wouldn’t make much sense if this was the only piece of geometry that didn’t despawn and respawn according to need.

For example, I was watching the Covie dropships from above the map. Once they drop off the troops, they go over the mountain tops out of sight, and literally disappear. They don’t stay there waiting until reinforcements are needed, they respawn accordingly. It’s the same if you get out of the campaign level “The Package” and follow a dropship out of the map. It goes out of sight, and literally shrinks until it disappears. Reach is pretty efficient with despawning and spawning items according to their need so that it doesn’t use up too much memory to properly run the game.

It’s most likely this. Weapon drops are disabled in Arcade. Someone should start up a custom match with default settings to verify.

It very well could be. It’d have to be verified, I guess. It kind of wouldn’t make sense, but it’s a possibility.

Also, the first thing I thought of when I found it was “Omg Halo: CE! Master Chief!” and tried to look inside, but it’s solid geometry and there are no transparent windows lol.

How do you get outside the map boundaries with the camera?

Unless the Longsword stays there until the game code instructs it to do its flyover and drop ordnance. It could be possible, given that it’s such a small piece of geometry as wouldn’t make much difference in running the game.

Yeah, that’s what I want to know too. I’ve been able to get outside of every map except for Firefight ones.

I LOVE exploring the maps to see how the designers made them. Plus you can get some pretty sweet screenshots too.

Did you happen to find Spartan Bob S-343 there too?

If not, here he is:

I got out of the map using the “dropship method”, similar to how you can get out of “The Pillar of Autumn” on Reach to find the secret spartan easter egg. You go as high up as the normal boundary will allow, and follow the path of a dropship. When the dropship is near the boundary that you have the pan cam at, you need to find a SOLID piece of the ship. By going slow, you can control it so that you don’t get pushed through the ship, and it will push the pan cam outside of the boundaries. Then you’re free to explore, unless you go too close to the original boundaries, in which you will be stuck in the original boundaries again.

And I already knew about the GRD Doll. Him and the 343 Guilty Spark easter egg are well known.
