Hi.
Quoting today’s MCC Development Update (https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/mcc-development-update-march-2020):
> Part of listening to player feedback includes improving the process for how we communicate with you. We are moving away from the previous system of sending multiple emails that contain critical information. To help make this process easier and cut down on missing emails and confusion, we’re moving to more of a self-service model and shifting all communications to Halo Waypoint
While I don’t think having the notification on more places than just my inbox, because mistakes happen, and so do overzealous spam filters, I don’t think “moving away from sending multiple emails” is a valid solution at all. Not the “multiple emails” part, mind you: Maybe cutting that down to a single email with all the relevant links and the key once it’s available might be enough. What I don’t find acceptable is ignoring the closest system we have to a universal notification system, and then instead having people constantly visit a website to check.
That would be another website to be checking whenever I remember to. I realise most people have their email inboxes so full of unsolicited mail they think the system is broken, but right now, this is the most universal and accessible way we have to receive a notification from a third party.
Since there’s not really a need to reply to this kind of email anyway, I’d propose having an RSS/Atom feed for Waypoint messages, but given the blog doesn’t have one without workarounds (like Halo: The Master Chief Collection RSS Feed, for announcements posted to the Steam feed), I wouldn’t hold my breath. I don’t like having to use twitter to keep up, but I realise it’s most people’s way to do so, and at least there’s more than one single thing to check for. Waypoint does not save me any clicks.
Please, don’t drop the ability to receive notifications via email. The language used in the blog implies this won’t even be an option anymore. Options are good.
