Innovative melee weapons combat ideas for infinite

I think melee weapons combat need to be improved in Halo Infinite.For example:
-Energy Sword could have a block option,which would also deflect bullets while draining the energy.Different attacks which would deflect or hit vs another E.Sword
-Knife would be used for melee attacks with weapons with no blade attachments.
-Gravity Hammer different types of attacks which could also deflect or hit vs another Gravity Hammer
-New types of melee weapons in the game

Everything but the second one as the UNSC should remain without one, they have the shotgun to counter the sword and hammer.
Also why not add a mechanic for the energy sword to reflect hard light weapon projectiles? reflecting in the direction of your aiming reticle but at the cost of being able to swing normally

Good idea for reflecting,with the knife melee i was thinking more of a Campaign stylistic change,since i got tired from watching how Chief melees with weapons all the time instead of using a knife😊

Yeah, the inclusion of a knife weapon is kind of redundant when the UNSC already has a shotgun, the weapon sandbox should have a strong emphasis on quality>quantity, instead of making 3 different type of gravity hammers make one good gravity hammer (Not saying you said this, these are just examples).

But you seem to be on the right track, as you’re suggesting ideas to improve on the weapons we already have. However, I do hope that the innovated melee weapons are more of a strategic sandbox weapon instead of just a free kill device; Something Halo 5, 4, and a bit of reach had, at least with their energy sword. Not saying the previous halos didn’t have the same issue but it’s more noticeable in 343’s era.

its a power pickup, about as balanced as the sword except its not a 1 hit kill so absorbing enemies shields gives it a fair buff. spartan charge was only annoying because everyone had it

Good idea for a pickup,i think that ability should come with a speed boost pickup!

I hope they can add some really nice melee weapons, I think it would be a really nice edition. I hope they can make some variants of energy swords.

Energy Lance for Elites would be a great addition for melee weapons,since we saw those in Halo Universe already!

It could be made that you could dodge it more easily so it isn’t too strong.

The sword has the lunge though, and without H5’s thrust I’m not sure what you mean by that. maybe if the swing speed for the energy pike is way longer it could work. But it seems too likely it would either be redundant or make the energy sword redundant.

Personally I’d love it if we could either Dual Wield Swords or have a Two Sword Variant Weapon that would count as 1 Weapon but give the Appearance of wielding two Swords. We’ve been teased with the possibility of doing that for YEARS now in various forms of Halo Media and I think Infinite would be the perfect time to finally make it happen in an actual FPS Halo Video Game.

Now mechanically speaking depending on who you ask that might either be called very impractical or overpowered but I think there’s a couple of ways to balance it out.

Since it would be Two Swords of course you would be able to ā€œstrike twiceā€ by quickly being able to do a follow-up attack after your first one but it can be off set by having it have a shorter Lunge range or not even having a lock-on Lunge as it’s primary attack but multiple rapid slashes similar to the Regular Sword’s Melee attack but quicker & you would have to be right up next to the opponent to be in range to even hit them or something…

I’m sure other folks could come up with other ways on how it could work in a balanced setting as well but I’ll admit I pretty much just wanna see Dual Wielding Swords for the COOL-ness Factor and because of folks secretly wanting it to happen for years hahaha!

I actually think this could compliment the weapon sandbox in a way, especially when you run out of ammunition. Those swords could be the blades that decorate the Normal, Heroic, and Legendary difficulty levels. If it could be balanced in a positive way, it would be handy as a last resort weapon or just when you wanna feel a little flashy. Variants of this could just extend to types of UNSC combat knives, and would vary on usefulness whether the enemy is aware and what sort of armor they’re packing.

Yeah Having a UNSC Equivalent like Combat Knives or even something crazy like a Pile Bunker where the usefulness is depended on the situation could be very interesting.

I think there’s a variety of ways to go about Melee Weapons for each faction with each of them serving different purposes within the Weapon Sandbox in a balanced way rather than being exactly the same as one another but belonging to a different faction.

…Also finally being able to Dual Wield Energy Swords would be living the dream!

  • How would dual swords work and how would it be an improvement over single sword as now you can’t throw grenades or switch to another weapon, and how would it be unique in the sandbox without feeling like a gimmick - Why should every faction have it’s own melee when Halo is unique for specifically not doing that, the Covenant have the sword while the UNSC get the shotgun, the banished the gravity hammer and the UNSC the SMG, it’s all balanced asymmetrically and throwing more items into the game will just mean more redundancy
