Initial Thoughts On Halo Infinites Multiplayer.

Alright! So I’ve played a few hours of the Flight and I got some thoughts of the multiplayer.

  1. Let me start by saying I really enjoy the game! I appreciate the fact that there’s a FOV slider up to 120% on Console!

  2. The new shotgun SUCKS! please for the love of god buff it.

  3. I initially thought sliding would be a problem but it’s really not it’s slow and kinda meh.

These are just a few thoughts I had while only playing for a few hours. I’m sure more will come tomorrow and when the BTB Weekend starts. What are some intial thoughts you’ve had of the flight so far?

I agree the shotgun does tend to feel a little slow imo, I did have some problems when finishing a match and selecting start a new one and just sitting there for 5mins before closing it and opening again. All in all I’d say I’m having fun it is a beta so there will be bugs that’s what we’re here for :slight_smile:

The assault rifle is garbage compared to the last flight.

I thought it’s already starting out great. But, there’s some noticeable issues I keep running into in this build:

*Lag (respawning)

*freezing during gameplay

*One match almost not starting because it was stuck on the map flyby

*No indicators of new items when they are unlocked in the battle pass.

So they have nerfed it then … ok well I guess thats not too bad. Was it way better last flight?

I wasn’t part of the last flight but from everything that I have seen it seems like it was way too overpowered, but now it is way too underpowered lol. We need to get to a good in between point. But honestly my biggest gripe is actually with the burst carbine.

I Love it right now, I’ve only encountered about 3 bugs. Everything runs mostly smooth, the new shotgun might need a buff, it took me about 4 body shots to fully kill an enemy at close range. Also there tends to be a bit of a problem with the sniper rifle when firing while not using the ads, most of the times it won’t register the hit and I can confirm im not the only one to have this problem as I’ve seen some people on social mediately about it too. Im also having some slight lag I issues, I thought it was only me but I see there’s another comment addressing it too. Sensitivity might be a bit crazy at times but I’ve kinda managed to get it under control sometimes. Other than that everything else is fine for me at the moment.

Yes it was exactly how it should be, and the sidekick was weaker as it should be. I’ll never understand why 343 has the pistol so op because what’s the point in all the other weapons, when you get sniper with a sidearm.

The BR for me seems a little weak. Does it feel like that to anyone else?

WE NEED A REAL LEVELING SYSTEM! YOU CAN PAY TO REACH TIER 100 IN THE BATTLEPASS! I can’t be the minority who thinks this is crazy!

The color scheme/outline of the players is really turning me away. Also, the amount of items/weapons that make each of them seem like a great weapon in the cabinet things

Woah what the assualt rifle is not underpowered lol, it’s how I get half of my kills

TTK is way too quick. Weapons aren’t balanced well with each other. SBMM is terrible and crossplay should be a working option to turn off and not be punished by longer search times. Aim assist needs to be worked on.

All and all its ok. Some things are ok while a lot needs to be worked on. 343 is going to have a lot of feedback on this flight. I feel like as a halo veteran it doesn’t appeal to me. I mean i get it, its ok as a shooter but it lacks the very things that make halo… Halo. I cant seem to get into a rhythm or find the games pace. Feels like its too sweaty and was heavily focused for competitive players. It shouldn’t be too social but it must have the right balance between Ranked and Social, not just hyper comp players destroying you. In halo 3 things made sense, you understood what happend and how. The pace and weapons worked perfect. This on the other hand feels like theres no time, get running and gunning while frantically mashing buttons and hope you can land your shots. No time to think and venture out somewhere whitout being beamed across the map or running into cover trying to recharge your shields because you got knocked by two bullets that done way more damage than it should.

I hope with a bigger map the pace will be slowed down a lil bit and we can have some sense to realise whats happening while we’re still palying and not in the menu waiting to respawn after dying way too quick from somthing you couldn’t even see or wonder how did that happen?
Hopefully the campaign will be somthing i can put my focus too because if it falls short so will i with halo, ill loose intrest and pretend that it didnt exist just like halo 5. As much as i want to like and enjoy it, theres way too many things that is stopping me from doing so.

Personally, I’d like to give some feedback on both the Battle Pass and Weapon Drills.

For the battle pass, I don’t want to buy almost all of the items in the full game, but I did to use up as much of my credits as I can in this flight, out of curiousity. However, I think the manual level-up system should be excluded from FREE battle passes that aren’t the premium ones (like the Beta Battle Pass for Splitgate, which was also around the same time as the first flight). Perhaps, it would be a better idea to leave out manual level-ups for anyone except the developers (who will mostly show off the customization in their builds, anyway) and there should be an anti-cheat that targets boosters specifically.

As for weapon drills, they’re a welcome addition, but the lack of variety leaves something to be desired. In this case, two of the three weapon drills don’t involve any action other than movement for the AI bots you’re shooting at. So, I would suggest that 343 spice things up in the third weapon drill to give you the impression that you’re under fire (and therefore, pressure), encouraging you to think fast and act faster. “But, you’re trying to make everyone a sweat.” In fact, I was just going to say that there should be a bot difficulty setting for weapon drills to show how well they can dodge enemy projectiles. This way, the sweats can get the stimulation they need, whereas newer players would be given less stress as far as how good the AI is and whether you’re able to make your shots hit anything on Marine or lower.

Bonus round: I have a bone to pick with the implementation of the new battle pass system. It’s one thing to give players customizable armor pieces, but it’s another thing entirely if every battle pass in the game is padded with double XP boosts and Challenge swaps without, say, extra credits or banners and emblems that you cannot get anywhere else. Otherwise, I won’t have an extra incentive to pick up the premium battle passes every season.

I really like the gameplay loop of Infinite, I like the maps, I love the way the guns look and sound, but good God, the controller experience for this is by far the worst I have ever dealt with any Halo game or fps shooter in general. I don’t consider myself an amazing Halo player by any standard of the imagination, but I can usually hold my own pretty well. I really hate however feeling like I have to constantly fight with my controller just to even attempt get a decent bead on someone. My matches have been mostly mediocre and even when my team wins a match, I can’t stop this nagging feeling that I know with 100% certainty that I should be doing a lot better.

I hoping that the reason for the challenge swaps and 2x xp boosts are because they dont have all the content developed for the battle pass yet so they filled in more of said rewards than needed.

My first thoughts are:

  • I miss having thrust and do feel a little rooted to the ground. The grapple is barely in the game since its a piece of equipment that can spawns with limited charges so I think all the Titanfall comparisons were premature.

  • I don’t understand when you have this larger than life sci fi franchise that so many maps should take place in the same Warehouse. Halo 5 did this and it was not a good thing. I know, we have only seen a few maps so far and the bigger maps coming do move away from the UNSC stuff; but it’s offputting.

  • The story behind the maps feels a little off. Some of the promo material talks about the new generation of Spartans in Infinite being trained in secret because of Cortanas shenanigans in Halo 5. But, they’re still rebuilding Mombasa business as usual, still able to openly operate a training academy and then there’s a dam in the middle of nowhere minding its own business. They have said they want multi to be canon and link it to the story but I am really not seen that in the maps presented. All three could have been Halo 4 maps.It feels disconnected.

  • Game still seems to favour precision based weapons. I imagine on bigger maps this will become much more apparent.

  • Very hard to tell because Mark 7 armour is quite bulky and that under suit is adding a lot of bulk but I am not sure if there’s actually a female Spartan option in game or not. Might be wrong, could be you change core to a variant of Vales armour and its very obvious.

  • Some weapons do feel a little irrelevant like the Pulse Carbine and Heatwave. They’re not worse than an assault rifle but it’s not a massive step up and both are a little tricky to get to grips with.

  • I love having your own personal AI and I like how it shows up on objectives. Having it hack the loot cave is great and they should find ways of including it in the gameplay.

  • I quite like the change back to big chunky armour on the Spartans.

  • Black undersuits. Great.

  • I like having my own colours rather than red vs blue. The highlighting is perfectly fine and doesn’t detract from that.

  • I miss assassinations. You may say there is a disadvantage in game. But, on Halo 5 you have people playing custom games just to do assassinations and I have seen players wait for your animation to finish before gunning you down on Warzone because it’s that cool. They want to see me plasma a guy in the head and throw him by the leg over a cliff. Plus, they should be in campaign and if they’re not in multi…

I can barely get any kills, I’m hitting people before they see me and still get me with the dumb sidekick

I hope that’s only the case for the tech preview and not the full game proper.
