Initial Impressions of Yap?

Looking to see what ppl think of Yap so far.

Will comment below with my own thoughts

I think hes a fun diverse Leader…kind of like Colony…Damage isnt the strongest but hes fun to play and the leader powers are unique. The dome and turrets drop…the only thing is the “please dont shoot me” playing against 3 yap yaps will be the only problem with him, as the opposing team can’t shoot for a long time.

I just want the cannon folder build time to Increase. Also hard to get use to him. also I think heavy grunts are better at fighting than marines

AI needs some tweaking, it has a tendency to garrison Cannon Fodder in cover…why can a melee unit be garrisoned in cover to begin with?

I do like being able to fight the tidal wave of infantry, and Yapyap pairs well with the Arbiter in that regard. Swarms of Grunts coupled with swarms of Elites.

Yeah. Played against the BtC guys last night as 3 Yapyap and got rolled. It’s not even the individual unit powers it’s more the sheer amount of units 3 yapyap can field. My Xbox GPU practically melted from the textures lol.

And his powers are really cool. I look forward to seeing what people come up with for him as, like you said he’s pretty different and diverse.

It can’t increase because that would make them build basically as long as grunts but be no where near as strong. Because yap doesn’t have regular grunts and because CF do basically no damage they have to have a leg up some how thus being produced very fast.

However I don’t think they should be free. Should be 25-50 supply.

Played a 6 yapyap game last night and it was insane. I think he is going to be an interesting leader in terms of what he had available and how he can compliment hid allies.

Pros: insane swarming, good leader powers, fun new units.

Cons: melts GPU, so slow to take power nodes (killing sentinels), low individual unit damage but with support units pretty good.

All in all, a really good leader. To quote my 2s partner though “Kinsano could look out the window of the Spirit of Fire on the battlefield and all of the cannon fodder would explode”. I’m looking forward to some fast 3 star heroes from farming cannon fodder lol

But at least yap can’t shoot back during the power either.

He’s pretty good early game once he gets a couple Methane Wagons out…

…all for me to Jack one of them😂

Legit curious cause I haven’t done it yet. Does a Spartan-driven methane wagon do anything? That’s hilarious, though.

I’m not sure but I think I saw it have an effect on the enemy grunts and my allies grunts.

Speaking of hijacking, the “don’t shoot me” power does NOT stop Spartans from taking vehicles.

Very little can be done at 2 minutes against a building killer drop plus horde of CF

yes I want them to be bus just as fast a grunts, that’s the point of expendable cannon folder . they already are free so I don’t see it point

Pros: T2 drop
Brute riders seem okay early game (not incredible though)
Resource collection and power node harrassment before other openers get going to deny the first node capture for 10-20 seconds

Cons: Lacks grunts… cannon fodder are horrendously weak and I dont think a hero + cannon fodder opener works from what ive seen as its so easy to target the heroes. Considering hero grunts is pretty much the only banished opener around right now this sucks for him
Lacks sui grunts, staple of banished play and this is a big loss early game
Leader wheel doesnt really stack up, misses out on the 3rd tier active like missiles or brand or scatter bomb and cant hold a late game vs an atriox, forge, shipmaster, decimus… pretty much anyone.

Overall I feel like he’s a pretty balanced leader, fairly sure he doesnt have the power to hold his own in 1s but is able to thicken out ally armies in teams. I dont think he will be dominating the meta but could definitelybe a viable pick- an arbiter or colony type leader right now.

My take is that it’s too early to call OP or anything like that. But he is pretty powerful

It’s what we wanted right? A grunt leader that excels in overwhelming his opponent with endless grunts.

What I’ve noticed:
The wagons have a lot of health. Early in the game.
CF have more health than I expected. They hardly do any damage though. Swarm a base with them, and they will take forever to hurt it.
-CF are great for capturing early resources though. and at no cost or risk.
Goblins are decent units. Biggest thing here is that they can heal really fast.

Ultimately, I think we can all agree that he has the best banter in the game.

#HeQuotesZoolander

Just ran up against a Cannon Fodder rush. The guy sent one over and took my minibase and started pumping grunts, then he got the drop as soon as I took it down and proceeded to sack my base with my ally helping out.

From what I’ve been searching for and read most people have the general consensus that he’s actually really balanced he has fair and balancing pros and cons, his leader powers snowball, his units all complement each other. With a army full of evry type of grunt and leader power implementation I took on and army and a scarab and some how (I’m still quite not entirely sure) I won with minimal loses and was able to kill the enemy base. But I have gotten counter easily on other games.

I think your break down is the best I’ve seen of Yap Yap…But you do get three heroes so I guess that is where they try to balance the weak cannon fodder and numerous melee troops. I wonder how he would do against an all air attack, would reavers be enough? Since the lack of anti air troops and no grunts or marines.
