So the UNSC’s most powerful ship, Infinity was last seen during the Battle of Installation 07 but what exactly happened afterwards? It just went missing from what it seems in Rubicon Protocol after the Banished attacked it. I got a odd theory that maybe Infinity survived but it was claimed by the Banished. I mean we’ve seen this ship survive orbital bombardment back in the Escalation comics so I highly doubt it’s gone for good but maybe it’s under new control.
The intro scene in the Infinite Campaign made it look pretty dead to me, pal… Especially when like, six dreadnoughts tore through the hull, and we watched the whole thing basically explode.
We know so few about the space battle, the campaign should have started on the Infinity, fight th Banished and really feel the defeat.
For now, the faith of the Infinity is uncertain, 343 could do everything he want whith it. Iit could be destroy, controlled by the Banished, or maybe Lasky is trying to take it back.
I don’t think the ship was taken with the Halo when he jump in slipspace, so I do’nt think we will see it again in Halo Infinite, surely in books
honestly infinite story is a bunch of bull, the banished couldn’t stop the spirit of fire, Now it wants me to believe they could destroy the infinity?!!! i know in halo wars 2 they said the covenant at the height of their power couldn’t stop the banished but even that seems a little far fetched, what was the height of their power, was it in halo 3? because even so the prophets put the brutes in charge which would only make it easier for them to take full comand, so what isabel said then really doesn’t have as much impact as it sounds. at this point it really seems 343 is just trying to use the craziest story ideas but not really making any sense out of it.
I don’t think the Infinity is around anymore. Various survivors left audio logs that suggest the Infinity is gone, especially the one that has Captain Lasky command a full evacuation of the ship.
Technically, Isabel is right, the covenants could’nt defeat the Banished. But she said it like if they’re were at war, but it wasn’t the case. Before the covenant end, the Banished were just a fleet of mercenaries, they had no population or territorie, so the problem was to find them. Of course, the Banished choose their target, but if the whole covenant fleet had to face the Banished, they would destroyed them.
As for the Spirit Fire/Infinity comparison, your right, it’s really ridiculous. I think that the Banished are helped by an ancient forerunner AI, that would explain how they face the Created and the Infinity so easily.
i was reading up on the banished a little while ago because maybe there’s something thats explains them a bit better, honestly i just think the banished shouldn’t exist. the covenant was the ultimate threat, they destroyed all they felt got in the way of “the great journey” really it was mass suicide but it felt like something much bigger, and because of them they released the flood, a literal all consuming parasite. but now that the covenant is disbanded and the flood is pretty much neutral till someone or thing releases it again, where do they go from there? well there was cortana who pretty much wanted total control over every living thing in the universe which sounded pretty cool, but they scrapped it, so now we get the banished, just some space pirates. how can they top an alien cult that wanted to kill everything, an alien parasite that wants to eat everything, and ai who wanted to rule everything, they cant. nothing can possibly be worse than anything we faced before.
I like the Banished, I think they could have be better if they was a secondary threat and not so important. Halo really need a story with a principal and dangerous ennemy. Since 343, the principal ennemy is always changing at each games (Prometheans, Created, Banished), they don’t know how to tell a story
the created weren’t really an enemy, at least not in the games, the prometheans replaced the flood and the banished replaced the covenant. i was hoping the banished would somewhat be like their hw2 selves, i probably would’ve ignored plotholes if the did but they’re a huge disappointment. like what happened to all their weapons and stuff like the scarabs and grunt goblins, and their new look is bad too, they look much more threatening in hw2 now they just look like a cheap copy of halo reach.
Indeed Halo 5 is about Cortana who form the Created and we never fight the Created in a game. Even if I don’t find Cortana or the Created as a good threat for a game, I think we should have fight them a little in Halo Infinite. For example, the promethean invade Infinity, then the weapon neutralize Cortana and the Prometheans disapear, then the Banished, hidden in the shadow attacked the Infinity already endommaged.
I like the Banished look, but I regret too the absence of scarabs and gobelins
that sounds interesting although why weren’t the banished attacked by cortana too, she kinda just let them do their thing, she sent guardians to destroy a planet and apparently only had one on zeta halo, it just seems really stupid even for cortana and what happened to the warden the guy with millions of bodies, he couldn’t defend cortana from some brutes? i just have no idea how the can possibly make sense out infinite. when and how did “the weapon” stop cortana, i dont think she did anything at all? cortana seemed to have killed herself rather than the weapon stoping her.
The Infinity upload the Weapon in Halo Zeta, then she imitate Cortana and neutralize her in the Auditorium. The only thing Cortana could do was explode the Auditorium to kill Atriox and delete the “erase fonction” from the Weapon.
How the Banished managed to resist against the Guardians is a mysterie and it’s why I think they are helped by a secret forerunner AI
but how did they do it so easily? listening to some of the aduio logs, cortana didn’t seem to put up much of a fight, no guardians, prometheans or even the warden! she apparently still had controll over them even while she was trapped. why would a forerunner ai want to help the banished, why would the banished want it’s help? they’re in this whole mess cause of the forerunners! they should be smart of enough to know it’s most likely using them. infinite just makes even more of a mess that 4 or 5 did, they need to just start over, i want 343 to come out and say “we screwed up.” something else i want to point out, 343 seem to be trying work time travel into this and that also just seems like a stupid idea, if they want time travel to fix something then maybe they shouldn’t have done it in the first place.
It’s not because the Banished/Cortana fight wasn’t describe than it didn’t happened. Again we don’t know a lot of thing on what happened.
I don’t think Cortana had controll on the Prometheans and Guardians when she was trapped, but it’s just my opinion.
343 will never say a thing like that, they just prefer to forget what happened and start a new thing, like they did with Halo 5
As for time travel, nothing in the game proove we can go back in the past and that would be horrible if they bring this thing in the game
maybe she didn’t have control but theres like no mention at all of the prometheans. theres a dead guardian on the map, so she wasn’t completely alone but they do nothing with it! you figured it would still have some defenses up or the banished would be scavenging it for weapons and materials. the prometheans have a vary important part in halo and i feel 343 just threw them away like nothing happened. just going off that little hint the weapon makes and the end of infinite it seem like they’re gonna work time travel in and im already dreading it.
Im pretty sure it got downed.
Im hoping we get a novel(dlc is unlikely) of lasky and roland going down with the ship and some sort of pick up on the sword of durandal, cortana/didact logic plague in the domain.
With story proper being blue team and some marines/expendable S4s guarding halsey trying to regroup with the captain.
While locke gets left for dead and is a scout/scavanger like character tracking down survivers stripped of his mjolnir.
Assuming a narrative like that were to come it would have to involve infinitys wreckage.
Sadly i want explanation as to how the banished who were losing to an old flag ship on the ark, the SoF could take down infinity and a guardian in 6 mins.
That was some lazy stake setting that totally hurt infinites story from the get go for me.
OP
I get the impression that Joe would want to tell his own story and bring their own characters in. The whole game is basically an apology for Halo 4 and Halo 5. It’s not so much a question of could the Infinity still be in the game lore wise as much as does 343 want to keep some things and leave out others. For example there should be Prometheans and soldiers as part of Zeta Halo defensive armoury but they’re absent because of politics not story.
Given that they’ve apparently killed off Cortana, removed an entire faction and seem pretty determined to jettison the Created plot line down to keeping any reference to it minimal; it’s hard to see why they would make an exception for the Infinity. Like the only reason it’s referenced at all is to explain why we have Cortanas replacement.
So my guess is they’re more likely to give you a new ship that’s in the same guise as the Pillar of Autumn/Infinity. But again, I am not in the room or in Joes head.
I think it’s like the Weapons name. They decided to leave things ambivalent and test the waters to gage peoples reaction. So maybe we will see Infinity, Palmer and Locke brought in later.
That or Chief gets in the Time Machine or it turns out Cortana trapped him in a Cylex/Matrix.
They could do anything and they haven’t shown their hand.
