Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck
He is an accomplished leader, an experienced soldier that has seen many of the worst battles of the Human-Covenant War like the liberation of Harvest, the fall of Reach, and the occupation of Earth.
This is a man with the label “if he were any better, he’d be a Spartan”. Well let’s see it happen!
Surely at the very least he and his squad should have proven themselves qualified for the Spartan-IV program with that drop into New Mombasa, a whole night behind enemy lines with no losses from the squad while they inflicted significant casualties to the enemy all the while retrieving a Tier 1 Asset. I mean imagine them returning for a new round of a hopefully better Spartan Ops?
He would make a good Sergeant Major, kind of a right hand man to the Commander, but I don’t think Palmer is an inherently bad character. She just needs better writing and character development.
I wish I could like this more than once. Buck is one of the best characters to ever appear in a Halo game, and he should definitely return alongside his squad as a Spartan-IV. Plus, he would make an excellent commander, so much better than Sarah Facepalmer there.

Better writing and character development might help, but it still won’t put her over Buck in my opinion.

I’ve been saying it for years: come up with some slow, gruesome death for Palmer that would make Rob Zombie giggle delightedly. Then give her job to Sergeant Stacker. To hell with Buck, Stacker’s been around longer.
