Infinity / WarGames ?

MAybe I’m just reading into it but do you think that the lack of ‘Infinity’ or’ war games’ terminology been a passive indicator that the “concept” might not show up in halo 5 ?

The original Beta trailer looks like a War Games-style arena.

So at a guess, the narrative framing of multiplayer still exists.

I really liked the narrative, and I don’t get why people don’t like it. It isn’t restrictive to Gameplay at all. Flood and Elites can still appear as simulations or even just real ones in the case of a canon development, so can custom games: a Spartan hacking crazy new games into the system.

Why don’t people like it?

People think that the narrative restricts gameplay for some reason. It doesn’t, it’s just an added story feature that helps connect everything together and has no effect on gameplay at all.

Exactly. If anything, the only thing it does is help immersion.

> Why don’t people like it?

Personally, I think it is just pointless and has added absolutely nothing to the universe so far.

  1. MP has simply been called canon, nothing has been made canon about it. When it was not mentioned that MP represents the canon trainings simulation of the IVs, no one would have known that you are now part of a simulation, since there is absolutely no indication for it within the MP.

  2. It led to unnecessary canon questions and explanations like “how does respawning work?”

  3. None of your actions within the MP can be considered canon and therefore you, your Spartan, is actually not even a part of the canon.

  4. Why, when you have a highly advanced combat trainings simulation, would you not simulate the reality, would prepare your soldiers for missions or scenarios by simulating said mission or scenarios, instead of simulating “games” in which they “play” against each other?

However, in the end I do not care about such insignificant parts of canon similar like I do not care about the unnecessary canonical explanation why Chief’s armor has changed in H4.

I like it better because it just gives a reason why 7-foot power-suited maniacs are filling each other with lead for no particular reason in small box canyons. That always seemed quite silly to me. In other shooters it has significance since each fight is between different factions, rather than garish colours.

But isn’t it still quite silly even with the developed reason?
Why would people of the same fraction battle each other anyway?
Sure, the reason is now they train in a simulation that’s why they battle each other but what kind of training is that to prepare them, the Spartans, for the real deal, for possible or upcoming missions/scenarios?
Basically it has nothing changed in regards to what happens in the MP or rather how we experience it.
We still play the “silly games”, do silly things, only that those silly games are now called canon.

As others have said, I’m not too sure that it has been scrapped yet. At least we now have a reason to fight each other lol.

because a spartan that can beat a spartan can beat a lot

As a lore nut I like the explanation of why the blues and reds are fighting. In no way does it restrict the multiplayer.

IMO it does not really matter if the concept stays or not. It does not affect gameplay and I’m with straight up multiplayer with no story.

> I like it better because it just gives a reason why 7-foot power-suited maniacs are filling each other with lead for no particular reason in small box canyons.

I’ve never needed a reason for that. It was fun and entertaining, so I did it.

So did I, but it’s better in this respect now. If you don’t care, you don’t care.

Hopefully it stays. It’s a nice touch and doesn’t detract in any way from gameplay. Though I would like it if 343 called multiplayer ‘multiplayer’ in the menus, and not ‘Infinity’.

Wow…This one is surprised, judging from what This one has seen of you (post wise) This one would have thought you did not like it.

This one enjoys the feature and hopes it becomes more.
