Okay so before I start I must say im not very up to date on Halo 4 atm as im caught up in exams but about a month ago Frankie, Kiki, Josh and everyone was calling the multiplayer “Infinity” and in the most recent videos from E3 they have been calling it war games, im just a little confused as I thought war games was the DLC included with the limited edition which im getting so a reply would be awesome, thanks!
I think its like this Infinity has three parts: War Games (matchmaking), Spartan Ops, and Custom games
Infinity is the multiplayer hub subcategorized by infinity slayer, war games (competitive), and spartan ops, I’m sure they go deeper into subcategories ala reach MM

Don’t forget Forge too.
Infinity is just the name of the hub where all multiplayer modes are located. Think of it like Halo: Anniversary’s menu where it just says campaign and multiplayer, now rename multiplayer to Infinity and that’s it.
If you’re still a bit confused just think of it like this:
- Multiplayer has been renamed Infinity
- Matchmaking has been renamed War Games
- Firefight has been replaced with Spartan Ops

Oh, thanks for the clear up, except multiplayer and matchmaking are virtually the same thing right?

This is wrong. Infinity Slayer is just a gametype and War Games is the new name for matchmaking.
War Games = all of competitive multiplayer (player vs player)
Spartan Ops = cooperative multiplayer (player w/ player)

Multiplayer refers to anything involving multiple players. Many people today confuse this w/ just meaning player vs. player which isn’t true. Co-op is technically multiplayer.
Main Menu:
**-**Campaign
> Single Player
> Campaign Co-Op
**-**Infinity
> Spartan Ops
> War Games
/> Playlists
> Forge
> Custom Games
Features such as Theater are most likely for both portions.

Well since War Games is the UNSC Infinity’s holodeck, I’m assuming custom games will take place in there too. So your menu will look something like this:
I.CAMPAIGN
- Local
- Matchmaking
II.INFINITY
1.Spartan Ops
2.War Games
a. Matchmaking
b. Custom Games
c. Forge
III.THEATER
Or it’ll be like Reach’s menu minus firefight, substitute Infinity for Matchmaking and Spartan Ops / War Games is the only thing nested in there.
Personally though I think Forge and Custom Games will fall under the Infinity umbrella as well, so my bet is something like the first example.
EDIT: -Yoink!- Monkey!

Yeah I hope they change that to something that is more descriptive and less confusing, like Ordnance Slayer or something.
