Infinity Free Roam in Halo 5

Recently, I was watching Destiny Alpha and noticed a “free roam” and came to me that “hey, how cool would it be to have free roam in Halo 5”. Basically instead of going to the normal “Multiplayer Menu”, it would take us inside Infinity and you can walk around as your custom spartan and basically walk through the interior of Infinity. Yet, as your walking, there would be rooms like "War Games, Custom, Spartan Ops, Firefight, Forge, Theater, Progress/Stats, & Armory (basically, instead of pressing start and changing armor, loadouts, perks, emblems, etc.). Yet, in each room you would speak to supporting characters like, Palmer is in War Games and Customs, alongside Lasky. Then you have Millar in Spartan Ops and Dalton in Firefight (we need to see them in person at least, even though we only saw them in a tiny screen). So, I wanted to ask, would you want something like this, and go a little “unique” or remain at the old-fashioned menus?

P.S: One request though…don’t put down “No it sucks, not Halo, go to COD, etc.”. Be constructive b/c I for one am curious what you guy think.

It isn’t Halo at all. (yes I saw your entire post even the end)

You had to look at another game to come up with this idea and you want it simply because it would “look cool”.

It’s been done since the N64 days mind you with Perfect Dark. I’d rather they didn’t waste valuable time doing this and focused on important matters like giving us more robust gameplay. More custom game options, more polish to existing features, more maps, etc.

I think this is a great idea! If canon is supposed to make us feel like our character is really there, how awesome would it be to walk around, talking to everyone you meet. It would be even cooler if NPCs spoke to you as you walk by. You’d walk from War Games to Spartan Ops, and you’d hear Miller go “Great game today, Spartan/Elite!” Obviously, it shouldn’t be to-scale. I think a semi-long hallway would be good. That would be great.

Waypoint is so predictable it oughta have its own MLG division.

Honestly I like lobbies you can walk around and interact with. I loved it in Bioshock 2 and would’ve especially liked it if you could’ve customized it. Having your own Spartan Barracks and locker could be interesting.

But its also not something they should really prioritize with their resources, as there’s a ton of more important things.

This would be cool at first, but the fact that it’s so slow and inefficient would render it more frustrating than anything after a short while… So I’ll have to say no, sorry.

People like you are so daft you should have your own stand up gig.
I clearly put that there because at the bottom of his post he said not to. Let me put it this way: Tongue in cheek

> This would be cool at first, but the fact that it’s so slow and inefficient would render it more frustrating than anything after a short while… So I’ll have to say no, sorry.

It’s inherently slower than just a menu, I’ll give you that. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be slow on its own.

Picture this.

You spawn in the barracks. Next to your bed is a locker where you can change loadouts/skins/armor/whatever. The next room over (couple seconds of walking) has a console that gives you access to Wargames/Forge. Other rooms contain less essential or less commonly used things, like a training course.

Figured it was more of a “-Yoink- you I’m gonna say it anyways” sort of thing. But no matter, I’m sure more people will come along and say the same thing.

> Picture this.

Speaking of pictures…

As long as my Spartan can jump into a painting of a map to play on it, I’m good.

While I think that it wouldn’t work in a core Halo game, it would be more than at home in a Halo RPG–something that has long been desired from the Halo Universe.

In that sort of game (like Destiny), such a feature would be a staple of the genre. I remember playing Mech Assault on my Xbox back in the day, and it had a similar feature. You could even customize a little about your character (base player model and one or two colors). Was it needed? Not by any means. Was it cool? Heck yeah! Walking around the bridge of a starship as an in-universe character and interacting with different consoles was a great little addition!

I like this idea, but I’d definitely prefer they focus their attention on things of higher priority and get those polished. Like the whole of the Multiplayer experience for example.

the fact that this didnt exist in halo 4 stopped me from taking infinity multiplayer that seriously

like a previous poster said, we’ve already seen this executed nicely in perfect dark without it being too ridiculous

I think it would really drive the point home about actually being a spartan on a ship instead of just a series of regular menus and the suspension of disbelief

I like the idea, but I feel like the time for it has passed with Halo 4. We really aren’t sure how much involvement the Infinity will have in Halo 5. In Halo 4, the campaign and multiplayer centered around the Infinity but I just don’t think that will be the case this time. But I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want a Halo open world RPG. The universe is so huge and needs exploring.

I don’t know
I played a gme on the ps3 with an in game menu and it kinda sucked because you had no idea where you were going and what each would do
Also in ME3 walking around in the ship and changing stuff took way longer than it would have with just a menu

Goodness, that would be so boring and tedious. Fable 3 had this exact same thing called the “Sanctuary.” It was basically a hub room with a navigational minimap and separate adjoining rooms for your inventory, weapons, clothes, quests, saves, etc. It took so long to do anything, not only because of having to wait for it to load, but because moving your character across a room and into different rooms is a lot more time consuming than just selecting a different menu option.

> Yet, in each room you would speak to supporting characters like, Palmer is in War Games and Customs, alongside Lasky. Then you have Millar in Spartan Ops and Dalton in Firefight (we need to see them in person at least, even though we only saw them in a tiny screen).

Unless they were RPG quest-givers, what interesting things could they possibly say beyond the first time you contact them? If they just say, “hello, Spartan,” or, “great work in that last op!” they would add nothing to the game besides novelty, so it would be pretty meaningless.

I really like this idea, but interacting with main characters certainly isn’t Halo. I thought of it like Bioshock, though that was limited, there was a walk in lobby area in this mini free roam area and that was pretty cool. I would like to just look into the vastness of space, just that would be enough for me.

Sure but only if there is a way to just skip it all and play what I want. I don’t want to have to run across a ship to change my armor or play multi-player. Sometimes it would be cool but I mostly just want to play, not hang out in a ship. Unless we can have dance parties like in Destiny.

I’m going to have to agree with Hotrod on this one. I remember this idea before Halo 4s release and while it would be a cool touch, it would wear off quickly. Maybe a forge map within the infinity so we could still get the feeling of just freely walking around the infinity?

Or just make it entirely optional. Say, by default you can jump into the various lobbies through the traditional menus, and one of the options is to enter the “Infinity hub” which could serve as the free roam area for the idea he presents, merely as an option for those who prefer the more intimate, RP-like experience.

Parties /lobbies. Lots of time. Too long for all that halo holds.

I like this idea, it could turn out to be cool if done right. But I would still like menu, just because its faster.
