Rewriting my post, was unclear by what I meant when talking about how complicated it is to use the new forge. Apologies for the harsh responses that I’ve given on the post. It was unnecessary.
Halo Infinites Forge is one of the best iterations in the series. It’s a hug leap forward from what was first released with Halo 3. But with these changes Forge has become a little more complicated for new players. The amount of options for Scaling, scripting amongst many other features is a lot to take in.
All of the new controls fro Forge are useful to many players. The control scheme is similar to Halo 5’s but with extra features. Halo 5 was difficult to use at first for many and some of them got used to it. Others did not.
When Bungie first released Forge they showed it off as a map editor and somewhat of a new game mode. Talking about spawning in weapons for your teammates or dropping a tank on someone. It had simple controls that at first not everyone could use but simple enough to easily understand. It was very inviting to all types of players.
Halo 5 was not that inviting. At first I could not understand it so I gave up. Later down the line I saw some amazing creations from the community that made me want to learn it. I spent a whole week trying to figure out all the things I could do within this new Forge that 343 gave us. I had a couple friends try it again but even after spending hours and some of them days trying to learn it they couldn’t do it. When I first forged on Halo Reach, being my 2nd Halo game, it was easy to learn. Easy for me and all of my friends.
Now we have Halo Infinite. Forge is almost like Blender and to some they say it’s a copy and paste version of Blender in Halo. There are so many over whelming options and controls to understand that help you build Developer looking maps. But not everyone is going to be able to learn it. I heard there was going to be 3 control options for Forge. Infinites, one that is close to Halo 5 and another that is as close to the older games as possible. It would be a nice feature but I have yet to see it.
Now for everyone who says, “Just learn to use it”, people have tried. Not everyone is going to understand it or be able to learn it. Bungies controls for Forge was more inviting, at least to me and all the friends I’ve made over the years on Halo. These new controls, even if they are extremely useful, are not as inviting as they could be.
I feel the same way although I’m getting a little better the more I use it. It definitely has a steeper learning curve than H5s. That’s not to say I can’t overcome it but it will take more time than it did with previous Forges. I mentioned this in our co-forge session last night and I’ll say it again here for the benefit of the community. The upside is that terrain forging will be faster, but the downside is that structural forging will be slower.
I dunno… just because you have trouble with it shouldn’t mean they never should include more options. People who know what they’re doing, can now create tons of things that were never possible before. You can still Forge and try to stick to simple editing. You don’t need to use all the tools that are there.
It literally just came out. It’s really not that complicated everything you need to know is constantly on screen. It may take a few days or weeks for it to become second nature but dont start complaining before you’ve even tried.
Its literally the one facet of this titles that is objectively the best implementation in the series to date and we have complaints.
You just need to use it and you do not need to use all the features.
If its too much for you, then just do basic editing and increase comexity as you learn how it functions.
Its certainly one of the easiest editors on the market and impressive in scope so any perceived complications would likely be on you, not the tool set.
You can do all the basic things easily and its easier to do at a fast pace than ever
If you want a more simplified toolset forge on mcc or play minecraft/DQB or fortnite.
But please for the love of god dont make nuance deficient complaints about what ostensibly is the best community feature the game has and the most powerful the community has gotten outside of mod support.
Last thing we need is 343i taking note and worrying about complexity in future forge suites or updates to this one.
Particularly as these concerns appear to be unfounded and routed in impatience.
It is definitely a bit tougher this time around, and that’s coming from someone who can navigate in and utilize Halo 5’s forge suite like the back of my hand. I think there are three additions that I feel would GREATLY help streamline the process.
Add pre-measured primitive pieces like in Halo 5 (16x16x2 block, 2x4x2 triangle, etc). Having some preset primitive piece sizes would greatly help speed up forging instead of having to completely scale every single primitive I add to the map.
Tweak the materials/texture menu from a horizontal scroll to categorized tabs (Basic, Forerunner, Human, Banished, etc) to help focus on specific textures rather than constantly scrolling left or right through the crap-ton of textures we have now.
Also us to access an objects properties without having it selected. In past games as a monitor including Halo 5 you could just look at an object in your cursor and adjust its properties without actually picking it up. I would love to see this little detail return.
First off, I can learn to use it. I use blender for Halo Reach MCC forge. The argument I’m making is the current iteration of Infinites forge isn’t easy to pick up like the past titles. Bungie made it simple back then so anyone could enter forge and build something.
RB to grab object, LB to left go object, RT to rotate, X to switch rotation. All of these extra steps scares new people away. Not every single person will or would be able to learn Forge. Especially now with Infinites highly complicated button layout.
My complaint is not about the new options to scale, duplicate, ect. It’s the buttons. I’m not speaking for me, I’m speaking for everyone else who used to probably just goof off in forge building maps and killing each other by drop a tank on someone or chasing another player with a kill ball. You can’t do that now.
It very much is though.
And your ability to use blender isnt really relevant.
The point I made is a new tool takes te to learn.
Could you snap shot heads cross map the first time you played halo? Unlikely. But that didnt make it hard to pick up. Just to master. And the same goea with og froge. Its a learning process. Thats my point.
It wasnt an insult. Anyone CAN enter forge and mess around and do the basics with ease so I cant say the argument is strong.
Similarly a M&K is always going to be the superior input method for any tool so it isnt a proof of your premise really.
And bungies forge developed in complexity as it was iterated on.
Many made the same complaint as you are now with regards to reach, 4 and 5.
Thats the nature of the tool growing more robust.
All these new steps may scare you off but do not speak for others.
Id wager more take issue with the online nature of forge for example.
You are speaking entirely for you spartan.
You cannot and should not speak for others as to do so invariably leads to error.
And the first person nature of you comments clearly show you speak for yourself, not others.
All the things you claim cant be done can and with ease so again this issue you claim to have seems to be one of familiarity and nothing else.
But you dont need to engage with the whole suite so these feel like artificial walls. I u derstand how it might be off-putting to you.
But the answer has been provided.
Its easy to do basics and no more complicated than halo3 forge it just uses a new scheme and one i feel will be more efficient once familiarity sets in.
Please do not hide behind a false narrative of other’s best interest’s as this is clearly an issue for you specifically.
Evidently so.
Again familiarity nothing youve said is an actual accessiblity issue and these people are not making stupid comments.
You werent particularly clear.
The new control scheme is needed due to the new features.
It is still simple if you want it to be but provides far more options for those willing to learn the tools limitations and utilities.
DooM in the past was simple, halo CE was simple.
But things grow in scope and a more powerful forge or DooM eternal require new control schemes to make this complexity intelligible and accessible.
Both things I can honestly say HI forges succeeds in doing, on controller. I havent used a K&M for it to be transparent. May never do so for that matter.
Bungie made forge to let players express themselves and make cool new things in halo be it game modes maps or other. And halo infinites forge has co tinued that mantra albeit in a farore expressive and robust setting.
what 343 needs to do is fix the physics asap. it’s real bad right now and I can’t believe they have been able to make the physics worse since Halo 3/Reach
Just download the trash compactor map and you’ll see just how ridiculous the physics are for soccer balls especially.
Most if not all of the Object menus are designed like files on a Computer. Halo Reach had one of the best UI’s I’m the series. The fact that it hasn’t been fully reused for the last two games baffles me. It was easy to navigate and displayed all the information in from of you perfectly.
It’s not a bad thing if you have a PC but not everyone can afford or use one. That’s another problem there. For anyone who wants to only play Xbox it’s a little difficult.
