Infinite's campaign shows how borked the vehicle physics are

So, to put it simply. the vehicle physics for the gooses, chopper, and warthogs are terrible. either it’s the physics or the controls. like i would hold to move forward, then the hog or whatever would just randomly turn, or decide to flip itself, despite the fact that nothing is there to do so, like a gust of wind hit it or something. it feels like i’m actively fighting the game to control the vehicles, and i ain’t in complete control of the vehicle.
it’s mostly a prominent issue in the campaign, but i can still feel the wonky driving in the multiplayer from time to time. be it the chopper being stuck on nothing and deciding ‘yeah, i’m totally flipped now’ and not at all move. or the hog/goose flipping on nothing or deciding to turn a nice 90 degrease for no reason. also is it just me, or are the vehicles… too bouncy. like they would be still on the ground, yet be bouncing like it ain’t no ones business

They flip over if you touch anything. I wish they were like the old games. I may actually spawn one at the FOB.

yeah, and be bouncy with actual fair suspension… to re-roll over the vehicle back onto the tires. akin to Reach/4

The ghost is similar, touching a rock while moving is basically a flip.

With all of the roadblocks and enemy structures along the roads, there’s no reason to use a ground vehicle to go from point A to B. Just grapple your way there and avoid everything.

Vehicle combat is also bad, if you’re fighting a ghost while in a ghost you might as well just get out and grapple it. Banshee dogfights aren’t even worth the time, and if you manage to somehow land the bomb it doesn’t even do anything.

8/10 times, yeah, better off using the grappling hook. or aerial vehicle to move a to b. totally faster.

and yeah, the only ‘good’ vehicle combat is a marine filled warthog. or the chopper. but even then, with how weak the vehicles are and the fact that enemies seem to do more damage… it really isn’t worth vehicle on vehicle unless the AI messes up

the scorpion hull seems to lack independence from the turret I notice and it doesn’t always turn when you want/need it to. vehicle controls, except maybe the ghost, need attention. Vehicles in general are very half-baked at best.

We’ve been finding the tank’s a little wonky too just in terms of trying to drive the damn thing. I didn’t notice at first because I’m just. bad at driving in games. But my partner’s been a tank aficionado for years so I’m deferring to his judgement on that lol

I found vehicles so inefficient, it was faster for me to just grapple spam all across the whole world until I unlocked the Wasp. There is borderline no reason to ever summon a Scorpion, since you can’t even really drive it anywhere. Probably the worst Scorpion in Halo history. It gets stuck at the slightest rock in the way.

If you have MCC, boot up reach or Halo 2, the scorpion controls so much better its crazy.

I see a lot of people having issues with the Scorpion not being able to drive one direction and aim in the other direction, same thing with other vehicle control issues, and most of the time, it’s just because they never enabled Camera Assisted Steering in the controls settings, which allows you to drive with both sticks like old Halo games. Trying to drive a Ghost without both sticks steering felt way wrong. No idea why this setting isn’t the default, or why they tried to change it to one stick steering in the first place.

That’s like. hysterically bad because in concept tank treads are designed like that to be all terrain including rocks! especially rocks!?

Oh, thanks! We’ll have to see if changing that fixes it.
Edit: We play mouse/keyboard and the setting was already on lol but I think I’ve figured out how to wrangle it. It just. does not feel very good compared to other games.

if the mantis comes, a twig will be the bane of your mech legs existence.

The chopper was always a little rollie in Halo 3, but it feels like it’s been diald up to 11 for Infinite, aha!
A few times I’ve been ejected on a slight incline, and my attempt to flip it to get back in have resulted in me chasing it half way across the map because the act of ‘flipping’ causes it to bounce into more rolls.

tried the suggestion, it doesn’t affect the scorpion cause it isn’t a wheeled vehicle.

I’m just getting off work, I’ll test it here in a minute. I swear I could aim with one stick and drive with the other. I just virtually never get a Scorpion in multiplayer to test it. I can spawn one in Campaign though.

The vehicle physics need to be overhauled to a great extent. It makes no fun to drive the Warthog since it flips all the time. It was fine in every other entry (Halo 5 being my favorite one).

Outside of the usual hot-button issues (monetization/customization/progression/mp content/forge/co-op), I think the state of vehicles is one of the most disappointing things about Infinite, for me.

Most ground vehicles get stuck on terrain/flip over way too easily. The Scorpion has really bad controls, and can’t carry any marines beyond the MG gunner. The Banshee’s weapons barely put out damage. And there is way too little variety in vehicles/way too many missing that were in previous games.

With the Banished being the main enemy, this would’ve been the perfect time to bring in Halo Wars 2 vehicles. Instead, not a single one of the Banished vehicles is new to FPS Halos.

custom game with fiesta on highpower will usually spawn a scorpion right off the bat. Thats how I got one to spawn.

Yeah, I’m perfectly able to drive the Scorpion with the left stick and aim with the right stick. It works without Movement Assisted Steering too just fine. Idk what everyone is talking about saying you can only drive where you aim. It feels fine to me on both controller and kbm. Maybe it’s a console related bug? I’m on PC.

What the? Bro, you’re right. Marines can’t ride on the sides of the Scorpion. This really is the worst Scorpion in Halo history.
