I just want to point out how incredibly perfect this version of the Battle Rifle is.
I never in my life expected to see a Battle Rifle that I’d like as much as the original Halo 2 BR. This one might be up there from what I can tell so far. This weapon puts a smile on a Halo 2 generation kids face.
Where would you place Infinite’s BR compared to your favourite variations from the past?
I honestly feel like the BR is a little weak in this game, but it might have just been the small maps in the technical test. That being said, it looks awesome and feels great to use, even if it does have a fairly high time to kill relative to the other weapons in the flight. I’d say I like it more than 343’s previous BRs, but less than Bungie’s.

Agreed. It was perfect, could use a slight down tune in AA and BM to line up with the other weapons in the sandbox, but thats a minor quibble

It has the same TTK as H3’s BR as far as headshot kills go but a slightly longer TTK for body shots
Its nearly identical

I kinda agree that it doesn’t feel quite as useful as it should in comparison with some other weapons, but I personally interpret that as the other weapons being a bit too useful rather than a flaw in the BR itself. Maybe that’s just me.
It feels harder to use than Halo 2 and 5 BR’s but not as difficult to use as the Halo 3 BR. I think it needs to be a little more difficult and add in a touch of aim assist and we’re good.

My thoughts exactly. It’s a classic Halo 3 BR in a sandbox with a lower TTK across the board. I would prefer a buff to the BR over nerfing the rest of the weapons, but it really depends on how long 343 wants the average TTK to be in this game. On larger maps I think the BR will shine as is though.
BR is perfect. Can drop enemies with this weapon very quickly in cqc and it can reach out and touch someone at a good distance. I seem to be able to use this weapon just fine against ARs at their maximum effective range, and find myself switching to alternative CQC weapons when they close the gap. Just like how the weapons should be.

It does seem more useful from distance and I love that. Halo 3’s BR was nearly impossible to use from afar.
I feel like the BR has a bit of an identity crisis, as it exists currently in Infinite.
It seems that the BR has moved into more of a DMR role as the Commando takes up a more traditional battle rifle role.
A battlerifle, traditionally, is a rifle that fires full power cartridge such as largr caliber rounds like 7.62x 51NATO or .308cal, 30’06, 7.62x54R, typically. These rifles usually resemble thier smaller caliber, assault rifle(carbine) counterparts. Battle rifles are usually more accurate and provide improved stopping power at greater distances.
Designated Marksman Rifles(DMR) are more similar to the BR but feature longer barrels and magnified optics. Typically used at longer ranges and features low rate of fire to increase accuracy.
With that out of the way, the Commando seems to fill the slot of a BR, where as the BR had taken on the role of a more traditional DMR with its improved accuracy, slow rate of fire and magnified optics. I feel like they missed the mark of what a BR and a DMR is, far removed from thier original purposes. For me, the Halo 5 Beta battle rifle was the peak of the weapons capabilities, more accrate than the AR, slower rate of fire, but capable at medium and longer distances.

So… you like the Infinite BR then?
The DMR, if it were to be brought back, needs to be somewhere between the Sniper and BR.
It should require extreme precision to be used effectively in CQC

Interesting. I personally don’t mind the DMR gone, I never really liked it’s place in the sandbox next to the BR so I don’t mind the BR being a bit more efficient in range, but I do see what you mean, it makes sense too. I kinda agree about the Commando and I don’t know how I feel about that weapon because of this.
For you, what would be the ideal solution to the issue you have with it? Bring back DMR and remove Commando or would you do something else?
I never liked the BR. I hated the BR. Didnt help that I wasnt a fan of burst like weapons. Halo 2 was only campaign play for me so I didnt care, but Halo 3 playing Multiplayer for the first time? I hated it but got good with it cause I love halo and had no other choice. Hated how it shoots, the sound of it reloading, how inaccurate as hell it felt at times when I was clearly hitting my shots. Like seriously the way this gun ruined my mood is pretty crazy now that Im writing this out. Long Range??? FORGET IT. Never could understand even on Big Team how I was getting lasered across the map by BRs, yet I barely could do a damn thing. I just stopped fighting and tried to get closer. Then Halo Reach came with the DMR. Finally…a human carbine semi automatic weapon. It was the gun I dreamed of. If I messed up a shot, it was MY fault. Halo 4, blends the two and I got my revenge on the BR using the DMR to out shoot people from mid to even close range. It was with Halo 2 anniversary where I began to like the gun because unlike Halo 3, 4 and 2 anni were more crisp, accurate and had tighter registration in gameplay.
But then Infinite comes out…and with what I said prior …its the Halo 3 BR I always wanted. It feels great, and looks great. My only complaint is the sound design could use more oomph to it. But Ive never truly liked the BR until this iteration of Halo. I pick it up with joy and not out of just necessity. I miss the DMR…alot. Would replace it with the commando in a heartbeat…but worse come to worse if its not here , it is not the end of the world too much. Even with Infinites current aim assist being a little too low, its this gun and the AR I have no problems with.

Im pretty sure today’s armies just stick to 5.56 assault rifles, and anything 7.62 is reserved for marksman rifles

I think it’s because it’s “slow” compared to the majority of weapons. The sniper and skewer also feel “under-powered” in this game. But I think it’s because they play like Halo 3 weapons in an environment that is actually faster paced (walking speed is faster than Halo 3, the miniscule sprint also being faster) and the various weapons being effective in the general encounters you have with players or bots (pretty much in sidekick and ar effective territory).
The reason the Halo 3 BR was so powerful was because the other weapons had varying limitations that the BR could exploit. The AR was weak, shortrange, the dual wield weapons like so. But in Infinite it is facing weapons that can compete in normal fight ranges.

I don’t hate it, but I dont think that it rings true to its namesake classification. In Infinite, it works well. I just prefer the Halo 5 BR. Personal preference, plus I have the most hours in that game, with Halo 3 coming at a close 2nd.
Yea the Infinite battle rifle felt pretty good, and imo has the best sound it has ever had. A very satisfying weapon, and I can’t wait to use it all the time.
I think the BR felt good for the flight.
Sounds good and feels good.

I wonder how powerful the dmr is going to be. I would love to see it again.
Felt really good with the movement. Felt good mid. Very strong scoped until you get hit. The descope speed really will decide if it can finish out of position players vs the new movement speed. Still strong to descope and pick of charging hoppers with the hip. Fun to hop with too if you want to try to avoid headshots. Hard to out do the Halo 2 BR in H5, but this kinda does it. Another good job 343 from me.
