When and how do I get a code? Been playing halo for over 15 years. Would like to be able to test too. What creates priority? Shouldn’t average people be a focus as well?
343 have specific selection criteria they go through, which changes each flight. Selection in done in a way that will benefit the data and results they want to see in their outcomes at the end of each flight. I’m not sure what you mean by average here, like if you’re meaning people other than pro players and streamers. If so, streamers and content creators are no prioritized, I don’t believe skill or prominence comes into play.
Veterancy is important to a certain level, but playing the game the longest isn’t and shouldn’t be straight ticket in - players who are new to the game can provide just as much meaningful data than those playing for years. Each player type has their own strengths and weaknesses and 343 will try and strike a good balance in their flights.
This is what they said about their selection process recently.
> Please note that registering as a Halo Insider doesn’t guarantee access to technical previews or pre-release hands-on gameplay tests (“flights”). The number of Insiders being invited, and the criteria by which these Insiders are selected, will vary given the specific scope and goals for a flight. For the tech preview, we have concurrency targets tied to our overall goals that will inform how many total Insiders should be invited. Within that pool of players, our first priority will be ensuring we have a broad distribution of platforms (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and different PC configurations) and then we will look at overall tenure in the program, prioritizing our longest standing Insiders, until we’ve allocated every invitation.
Key here is “…the criteria by which these Insiders are selected, will vary given the specific scope and goals for a flight.”

Basically what the monitor said but also make sure you have your green check marks in the Halo insider portion on waypoint
I appreciate the detailed response. Thanks
I’ve been playing since halo CE…and I’ve played every single game since. I would love to beta test infinite and give any help i can to it’s development. Sadly… I still don’t have a beta key….

The first flight has been over for a few days now…
How long you’ve been playing Halo isn’t a factor in how you get selected.
Be a Halo Insider, have your information up to date & wait for the next flight. You may be selected. You may not.
Selection criteria for flights is as follows:
- A variety of PC Hardware & Xbox consoles
- Length time members have been a Halo Insider
Each flight should have more & more people in. If you’re not selected at first be patient and you’ll get selected for a future flight.
I played the flight but wasn’t invited. My best friend was, which was who I played it with. I feel like I should have been invited myself because of how much I have played. I understand what the monitor posted in regards to 343 but I feel like them inviting new players over Veteran players is bs because I feel like most Veteran players probably do as well that we’ve been loyal to this franchise from the beginning and aside from people who were to young to play before, if this is people first experience in Halo then their opinions are about as good as my opinions of GOD OF WAR are. Which 343 is clearly not worried about since they do so many things to attract new players and have no shame in saying so. That’s a whole other conversation for a different thread though.
But I do feel as you probably do.
I’m a level 147 in H5 over 20 days of game play. Champion 62 or something in Swat as the highest rank I’ve reached, but Timmy down the streets opinion has seemed potentially more important than mine at this time.
Hopefully I’m not putting words into mouths.
Is there more dates to more flights selected or was this previous weekend the only weekend they are doing it.

Same. Been playing since 2001 and have played every halo since then but I got in. It was a lottery of those in the Insider program, not so much a veterable who’s who. It’s good to have feedback from the old and the new, hence why the maps and art design are heavily inspired by the Bungo days but with the new generations advanced movements and accessibility. Yes you probably are “putting words in mouths” because they definitely have been listening to everyone, especially the vets, on this game if the year long delay wasn’t proof enough.

As of now, we dont know. I’d wager they will take the time to further optimize and tweak per the surveys input before we get another one.

One of the coolest aspects to previous installments has been the recognition in-game of previous loyalty, such as tags or banners, etc. I’ve expected and wished for this from other franchises but it has never been done as well as our beloved Halo!
The honor of being selected for a flight isn’t really the place for rewarding our loyalty, however. It’s about testing the game pre-release in the most effective way possible. Pre-release special access is a thing sometimes put up by companies when you preorder, buy the special edition, have one console over another…
But active forum members who can provide essential feedback is who should be involved in these flights. It’s no insult the gift of early play isn’t given to you during testing. Prove you’re a valuable asset and your involvement chances increase. Buggy, crash games are frustrating! The right people with a positive and constructive mindset are needed to improve the game. Those unprepared will typically not participate in contributing, give up or worse: complain which undermines the point of a beta.

Yea I mean I understand they wanted to try different consoles and different player types, etc. I’m not hating on the fact that I didn’t get an invite as much as my bidderness comes off as because I do understand. I also know there are people higher than me in rank that probably didn’t get invited. As far as a year delay, all that shows me is, they knew if they had released that game they had at the time they wouldn’t be making another one.
As far a veteran status, I’m sure them listening to us differs player to player of course, but the point I was trying to make is that if they would stop worrying about keeping up with other games and just make Halo better for the people who actually play regardless of the dumb stuff they have done before, it would make for a better Halo. I’ve made plenty of points before about this and that’s not what I meant to do by replying to this thread. But I don’t think they listened because they care about us as veterans which is one point I will always have.
Really though, I did play and it does seem to be getting back to the root where H3 left off.
The multiplayer looks really fun!
