the artstyle took a downward turn in 4, in terms of keeping it Halo feeling. I like the way Halo 4 looks, but they went too far into the “realistic” textures approach, and doubled down on that with 5. Halo has always had a distinct look to it from CE to Reach. It wasn’t necessarily “cartoony” but had a smoother, brighter, more animated look to it than 4 and 5 grasped.
The look and sound design in 5 are two huge things I hate. I literally can’t stand the way 5 sounds personally.
People will play a certain game and continue to do so for different reasons, man.
I don’t enjoy playing Guardians for its art style, I play for its game mechanics.
I stay away from like 90% of the armors offered in that game, and colors other than black, white, and gray in between because of the undersuits.
Though regardless of what I think or say about the game, someone can think the exact opposite. However, I don’t have to let any extent of their differing opinion(s) ruin my enjoyment of the game; I play for my own benefit, bro.
100% this. Honestly I’m not even gonna try lying to myself, Halo 5 has the BEST Fiesta mode in the franchise. Prophets Bane legit makes my friends fear me, Nornfang however, makes me fear them.
I absolutely adore Super Fiesta because of the REQ weapons and the culture it creates around them in the gameplay.
I get so giddy like a school girl when I spawn with the Bane or go into beast mode with the Answer.
There’s nuances to enhancing the experience with the Bane like using it down to 10% but have another Energy Sword (preferably Ravaging Sliver) or a weapon with a bayonet to keep exploiting the camo ability.
When I hear weapons like the Nornfang, Delta, Gavel, Prime, Ad, or Answer sounding off, and I am aware my teammates did not spawn with one, then I go into witch-hunt mode. I love determining how I should engage myself based on listening to the distinct audio cues.
For some fans halo 5 was the pinnacle of the multiplayer experience. You’re correct about the reasons there’s issues with games along the timeline of the consoles. It goes as well with the connection issues. For example, once the new series x and s came out we seen even more issues with players disconnecting from lobbies. The odd fix was that you had to load up your own custom game and quit it, then you could join lobbies without problems. Not sure why it had to be done, but it worked for everyone.
Halo infinite is a weird halfway point experience as far as multiplayer goes. It’s not entirely classic…nor is it going all the way in the modern direction either. Honestly for me, it created this mediocre meh experience. Its just not all that fun, and all the issues the game has had so far just add to it not being an enjoyable experience. 5 has more excitement in it’s gameplay, more uniqueness, more player expression and play style, and very dynamic matches with what every player can do by default within the game. It also launched with a new game mode that sparked interest in the clan/spartan company systems…where is that now?..how in the world is something like that just gone? Wait till season (insert arbitrary number here)?
As far as esports…I followed it from the beginning. It had some issues and they ironed them out. The hcs settings werent even implemented at the start either. It had ground pound and spartan charge etc. I don’t believe it ever got canceled till much later though and then LVT took the torch and had amazing content provided for the competitive community. Very awesome stuff.
In infinite…idk it just doesn’t have much interesting things about it’s gameplay. If the main highlight of it all is a single weapon…like man…that kinda speaks out right there. ( you mentioned the shock rifle. It is a great addition tho, as is the stalker, both different and worth picking up) but the base game play is just a bit bland for me.
For fans that like a more…idk…vanilla experience? I guess its a great game for them. Coming from 5 where players feel like they’re the freakin avengers squading up though…man…I wish I could say I loved the game =[ I set it aside man. The first halo ive ever just completely stopped playing within the first few months.
5 had a “dark age” regarding its ranking system. Pretty terrible that the new game repeated that same mistake. Infinite launched with connection issues too…and…in my experience playing with friends I had just as many issues with that. When the game is workin tho, its not a terrible game…but when you consider the size of the game and what it consists of…you expect this short small sample to work really well. Mcc was terrible at launch and broke many hearts…but also was doing something new.
Infinite? Well…it’s a free to play multiplayer experience…that…Definitely feels free to play. So i guess at the very least…one can always point their finger to that and say…well hey…it’s basically free bro…
Yeah just ranked. I want it in btb at least. AR starts has never and will never be fun outside of something like multi team where the game being chaotic is the point.
Guy, I absolutely despise Halo Reach and how it butchered long established lore and made terrible gameplay changes. But I can acknowledge that there is a not insignificant number of Halo fans who love that game. Just because you despise Halo 5 and think Warzone was terrible doesn’t mean it’s some fringe minority of Halo fans who do enjoy those. While I think the story of Halo 5 was absolutely terrible, I liked the multiplayer and really enjoyed Warzone. It’s one of the major reasons why I hope 343 ports Halo 5 to PC someday, I’d really love to play that again sometime.
That’s just it though, it actually is a fringe minority of people who like 5. More people play Reach than 5, since you brought that up. They’re stuck to doing so on MCC now that the 360 servers are gone, but I digress.
For what it’s worth I’m not a fan of Reach’s multiplayer at all. I liked the campaign and it was a really well functioning and aesthetically pleasing game, but I could care less about playing online matches in it. The DMR and overpowered jetpack pretty much burnt that bridge
MCC was broke as hell and took an absurd time to fix, so long that 343i added the ODST campaign in for free as an apology.
Halo 5 on the other hand worked totally fine. When H5 released the campaign fell flat, Warzone felt pay to win, armor was unlocked via rng & forge was delayed. Some people may or may not have also disliked all the special movement and smart scope (personally for me I liked it and thought the gameplay was great) saying these things shouldn’t be in Halo. Playlist variety also took time to build up.
But, crucially, everything worked at launch (bar forge lol). By all means Halo 5’s initial reception wasn’t great by franchise standards, but it 100% was a fully functioning and fully featured (bar forge) halo game with a working campaign coop, customs, warzone PvPvE, a service record and the rest of it.
I feel like yeah Halo 5 got bad reception, but it definitely had a better launch than both Infinite and MCC, plus by the end of it’s lifetime I’d argue it exceeded Halo 4 in support and features. Remains to be seen how they salvage infinite.
Why do you make it sound like it’s a bad thing that people can still enjoy the game even though it’s less liked by the majority or less played compared to another Halo?
Why, just because you don’t like it for your myriad of reasons and everyone should think so too?
Do you merit the game’s worth based on number of players alone? Thousands of people are playing Infinite but I don’t think that game is worth my time. Does that alone mean I should consider it a bad game, because it does not entertain me as much as Guardians?
You keep saying that like it’s relevant to the facts of the topic.
The facts are, 5 had the same launch issues as infinite. They just started fixing them sooner
But in the interim, infinite has been way more fun to play than 5 ever was. You keep bringing up super fiesta, which is something I loathe for the insane randomness and lack of fun. I like fair matches where people win based on their skill and understanding of the game, not on how many req packs they bought or what overpowered weapon they spawned with.
We are very different people and you need to get a grasp on that.
All your talk of why you think Infinite is fun is subjective; your opinion.
Yeah we are very different people and different people can like different things for different reasons regardless of what the other thinks, says, or does.
