Infinite Warfare = Halo 5 population boost?

With the release of COD Infinite Warfare, will Halo 5’s population boost as more people buy this game? Obviously Battlefield 1 will get a huge amount of sales but Halo 5 could also increase in player count.

Leave what you think below

H5 will be a year old when COD drops, so the answer is an obvious no. The only time a halo game significantly increased population after launch was in 09 after the launch of ODST.

Just huge boost for battlefield 1

Not to mention Infinite Warfare will also include COD4 remastered, which was the first game to knock Halo off the mantle as top multiplayer shooter.

Halo 5 will lose more members this fall, significantly

uh, infinite warfare got so many dislikes, plus the game looks like a doom/halo combined, I have doubts about it taking more members

I feel like 343 will have some kind of story expansion for Halo 5 at the end of the year to bring new life to it. The expansion will be free to current owners of the game however it would allow them to market the game again and show how much more of a complete game it is now. Doing this will definitely boost the player base.

That’s true. Though Halo 2 had a pretty significant first christmas. Either way, the data shows that old games don’t just suddenly become more popular unless there’s a christmas or a sequel coming.

Oops, wrong button.

COD will always be king unfortunately, especially with how 343i has been handling HALO.

No but just because itll be a year old already

Yeah, even with almost 2 million dislikes that leaves another 20 something million that will still buy it as loyal CoD fans.

Halo 3 was still #1 after CoD 4. The game that knocked it off was MW2 if I recall correctly.

As ColbyMan21 pointed out, the main selling point for IW is a remastered COD4 which will sell like crazy. H5 numbers will drop this fall with only hyper competitive players staying on for the long run.

I am surprised this didn’t get locked as it discusses population and other games. It seems these type of threads always get locked.

I’m glad someone else here is skilled in data analysis. What do you work with? IBM SPSS?

While population is at the core of the argument, the discussion is whether other titles will have an effect on Halo in general. Worthwhile topic.

Battlefield has one this round! Haha

Quite surprising. But a lot of arguments fall down to population, so it’s hard not to talk about it at some point. The monitors that lock those threads fail to understand this, and do so anyways.

It’s restricted to a $70 price tag. That’s a heap of money for a nearly 10 year old game. I certainly wouldn’t spend $70 for it, and I absolutely loved CoD 4.

There’s two variables for why the CoD:IW trailer has the amounts negativity surrounding it. And why it won’t save Halo 5.

The first is CoD4 only being available through an $80 bundle. Which is a tell that the devs aren’t confident with their own game. That alone is what is making fans upset. I would too. Imagine if Halo 3 Anniversary was only available if you bought Halo 6 bundled with it for $80. And you seem alittle sceptic following your CE purchase of Halo 5?

Second is is the fact that this is the fifth installment CoD has had a futuristic setting. There are too many games in this genre that have this setting and it’s starting to wear, and over saturate the genre. This is a direct problem for Halo. With games like DOOM, Titanfall 2, Overwatch and more coming out and with SWBF, Killzone, Titanfall, Destiny, and all subsequent sequels of CoD post MW2 having released earlier all with futuristic settings doesn’t bode well for both Halo and CoD.

Fans want to go back in time to a different setting with a more simple and grounded setting. And it shows with the Battlefield 1 trailer. Even I’m hyped for it. I’m always hyped for BF.

One other variable people seem to forget is that CoD fans want to play CoD. They’re not going to move to a not-even-closed-to-being-half-finished shooter known as Halo 5. And everyone who did want Halo 5 have already purchased it. Some not even liking this installment and moved on… Or that CoD players want to play something that’s a little more grounded and gritty or more arcade-like rather than arena based.

There’s a lot of problems, but really? It all comes down to 343s competence with the series. Halo 5 hasn’t even hit its stride yet, unlike all the games before it. With a gimped Campaign, gimped multiplayer that seems to get little support outside of REQs, REQs and Microtransactions as a whole, and constant server problems, bugs, glitches, Ect.

It’s hard to try to sway people this direction. I’ve even come to a point where I used to try and get my friends to buy this game because I thought it was worth it with all the “free” content drops to, “Nah, you’re better off trying to get the game for $15 in the bin. Don’t waste money on the Arena or Warzone bundles either.” And even then, at this point you CAN find the game in the bins of Best Buy or GameStop at that price and I still doubt my friends on getting it. Halo 5 is done, hopefully it’ll keep its current population. I’m ready to open my CEs of DOOM and Overwatch though. So it’s hard for me to try and stick to Halo…

343 just need to focus on making a good game, and a finished one at that. Also, isn’t this like the third time this topic has been created and surfaced? Oh well, finally got to put my input out.
