Infinite Tech Preview – Weapon Drills

Welcome to the eagerly awaited Halo Infinite technical preview! We are looking for feedback on specific areas and have threads dedicated to each one right here on Waypoint.

This thread is focused on collecting feedback on Weapon Drills. To provide feedback on other aspects of the flight, please use the dedicated threads for each key feedback area:

Thank you for participating in this Halo Infinite technical preview, we hope you have fun and please share your thoughts with us below!

Hello fellow spartans,

it would be nice for wepon drills to ajust difficulty “in the range” so you do not need to load everytime. Also it would be nice to have a little restart button there or maybe even a weapons rack. (Similar to a certain shooter from the company with a Fist as a logo)

Also i would like to have a point breakdown of my score at the end.
So far is seems to get the purpose of trying out weapons.

After trying each of the available weapon drills I’d say it does a pretty good job of letting you try out each of the different weapons to get a feel for them before going into a game of matchmaking, though having to kill enemies from longer ranges with the shotgun was pretty frustrating.

I noticed that once you complete an individual weapon drill it looks like it saves the high score, but not the number of stars. When I go back into my weapon drills it just shows no stars for any of the drills that I completed. Then later when I exited the game and booted it back up, it looks like all of my high scores had disappeared as well. Also, its really minor, but it feels wrong to have the “Now that’s how its done!” / “Exceptional work spartan!” voice lines go off in an instance when I never fire off a single shot.

I liked the drills simple and efficient.
Though I would like infinity mode or be able to create your drill (time movement, a certain amount of targets before it ends…) though I really like that drills are there

And yeah once you complete the drills it does not save the stars only the high score.

Good first step as an intro to the weapons and getting a basic feel for each one.
It would be good to see what star I’m currently at while I’m shooting with a progress bar or something. Just some sort of visual feedback other than just numbers.
Would like to see a better post game screen that has some visuals and breakdown % of where shots landed (head, body, etc), as well as things like overall accuracy and points per body part.
I’d posted this earlier, but I think weapon drills should be expanded with some set of forge and pathing tools so that user submitted challenges can be made and shared. Builds the endgame community and engagement. If it remains as-is with just the 3 challenges per weapon, this part of the game will quickly fall out of use. Also pair with some sort of leader-board would be ideal.

I think this has a lot of potential. One huge feature that would bring it home is to have an option to layout all the weapons out in front of you and just kill as many Spartans as you need to get practice. Even maybe add enemies from the campaign as well. No scoring, or points, just mayhem and getting used to all the weapons.

A good feature to have, expand by being able to switch to any weapon within the drill, also maybe open up the map with random targets place throughout the map, kinda like apex legends tutorial, but select weapons from a menu. Just think being able to get a feel for a weapon and exploring the map would help with practice.

I liked this feature more than I initially thought I would. It’s a handy weapon tutorial to get to learn how to use and fire the weapons in the game, and the different levels provide a bit of a fun challenge.

I would like to see leaderboards added to give more of a competitive aspect to it, where you could compare it with friends and people around the world. Another feature that I think would be useful for players trying to practice and really hone their skills would be an untimed practice mode, where instead of killing as many enemies as possible in 45 seconds, they have an untimed and unscored experience where they may practice shooting enemies without disruption for a longer period of time with their weapon of choice.

Perfect for warming up. Would be awesome to have an unlimited option so that it’s not capped. The current levels per gun are great but would be good to just continue without having to jump back into each mission. You could almost split this into two with tutorial/gamified version now it is now, and then an open mode where you can pick up guns like a gun range. Really after playing this mode once, I would use this for warming up absolutely.

I liked the weapon drills overall. Thought it work as intended other than having to kill them with the shotgun from very far range. I would like more post game stats and maybe a leaderboard. Feel like without a leaderboard I would stop using it pretty quickly.

I liked the drills but I’d also like a mode where the time is unlimited. I really need practise with sniper so it would be easier when the bots would just keep coming instead of repeating the 30sec drill.

When doing the drills, most was ok and the comments above cover most of it… But the needler feels lackluster… They travel slowly you need heaps of them and are physically small so it also looks unimpressive.

Apart from that everything in the drills seems ok bar the graphical glitches when strafing and it starts to flicker

Some of the weapons feel stronger in the drills then in Bot Slayer.

Sprinting around in the drill tends to make the game jerky, almost as if frames are dropping.

Hello Spartans, ive a few issues.
1st is the noticeable recoil ive had burst firing the AR, im not saying its a bad thing but personally , i tried bursting it to hit targets at long distances and the recoil resets after every burst making it unmanageable ( for me at leat)
2nd is the Snipers zoom, what is to high for the areas we can use it in , also kida disappointing we dont have the OG double zoom on the it(you should add it especially for these kind of problems)
Also you should add a aim training room without a time limit so we can spent as much time as we like testing/performing with the weapons.
Thats all i have for now. Hope is helpfull

In re: Weapons Training for the Skewer (specifically 2 and 3 stars levels), the reload time is so high that, after you kill a bot, the next bot will often have moved to its next location and stopped by the time the weapon is fully finished reloading, kinda negating the movement practice you would get from the bot being on the run.

i cant wait to use the sniper rifle

Some good suggestions in here so far. Agree with Avenger217 on the star feedback. I was thinking something that updated during the challenge - like in Gears of War: Judgement - where the stars in the top left increased as you scored. Random example youtube video: https://youtu.be/hecPbF13pHc?t=100

Also agree with the breakdown at the end of the session for body parts, accuracy etc.

I found the space a little too small where I was standing/moving, especially when we got to moving targets, where the side panels obscured your views when strafing and zoomed in, and I was using a 90 FoV on console. I also didn’t like the weapon case staying open, it was like a massive rectangle in the field of view.

The reload time is also an issue on some drills, even if you try and mitigate it with manual reloads, you don’t really save time and it gets a bit frustrating. On Xbox as well, the peformance issues really interfere with the flow, not sure what triggers them but you’ll get a slowdown where the frames get choppy/drop and then you miss your shots and have to reload and repeat.

It might be an idea - if possible - to include some basic suggestions as well as part of the drills. Like if the player is constantly shooting behind a moving target, display a hint to shoot ahead or mirror strafe, but these are very subjective and situational.

Feedback: Please allow the ability to scope out / de-zoom the sniper using the Y button.

In previous Halo titles, it’s common to double tap the Y button to scope out of the sniper rather than double click the stick. In Halo: Reach, it was made a default feature where if you had no secondary weapon and hit the Y button once, you would zoom out of the sniper scope. I believe this was carried forward to Halo 4 & 5 as well.

Really enjoyed having this mode. As has been mentioned, would love for this to get an unlimited time option just for warm up purposes.

Also, maybe it is on first load of a new weapon, but there’s some noticeable stutter in gun model when not zoomed. Once zoomed in the impact is basically negligible, and once I reload the round to try again there is no stutter.

Otherwise, I liked this.
