I have a few things I noticed regarding the UI on the PC Steam version of the beta.
The after match results showing the team lineup will drop all armor customization and color occasionally.
Controller settings don’t seem to save, however video/graphics settings stay.
Beta will hang for extended periods of time, sometimes permanently after Bot Slayer matchmaking or weapon drills.
The Hip items do not appear to apply properly to the character.
It seems the prosthetic limbs when applied to the character do not unapply when selected back to “none” consistently on the rendered preview.
This is especially prevalent on the hand. Backing out of the customization resets the view.
On weapons bench, the marine in the background sometimes doubles itself up with just slightly different timing on the animation, perhaps a double render?
This same process can happen in the vehicle bay background with the marines.
During the sniper weapon drills, the result score showed the AR instead of the sniper it seems a default place holder possibly took over
or potential just brought in the wrong object. My guess is this glitch pertains to other weapons as well.
Ranking up battle pass with credits crashed game.
Viewing spartan render in armor hall is cropped so that the top of the head touches the edge of the upper portion of the screen with Ultrawide 3440x1440 resolution.

> Helmet attachments should probably have its own box in the customization menu. Currently you have to inspect a helmet then go to another tab. I feel like they’re gonna be missed by a lot of people this way.

> The AI customization menu could do with a voice test option, so you can see what they sound like.
yes! I was really surprised that there wasn’t a way to hear what the AI sounded like while you’re in the menu.
It would be nice if the game hud had a small popup somewhere to show who’s talking, instead of having to open the scoreboard to identify who’s speaking.
I’m getting inconsistent lighting and loading changes with the backgrounds when flipping between the menus (Play, Shop, etc.). Also, the visuals cut out and the loading bay and Spartan have to load in again when toggling between Body Types.

Minor UI problem IMO, the player recap makes it look like a good thing when I have “higher than usual” deaths, negative stats should be red or change the wording from “beat your usual” to “higher than usual”
The after-game scoreboard is really heard to read. Also, I changed my player ID and emblem on the app, and it changed it in-game, but not when I load into a match.
I’m not sure where to post this, but I believe this is kind of a serious settings issue at least for me. I changed my team color to be red and the enemy color to be blue, because “suck it blue” (RVB- Rooster Teeth: Sarge) and this change is also reflected in the motion tracker. In previous Halo games even if you’re on “Red Team” the enemies are still red on the radar and the allies are yellow. I understand that this may be an accessibility feature for those that are color blind and that makes perfect sense, but I think there should also be an option to change the motion tracker if you wish since players may not want their motion tracker colors to directly reflect team colors especially when doing something like changing to red team changes the motion tracker to go against all previous halo motion trackers.
-I was looking at the hip armor options for customizing but when i scrolled through the 3 options there the model didn’t change.
-for customizing the coatings is a decent idea but I would like to have more control over colors. Can we get a way to customize the coatings so we can pick colors for different regions? Or maybe get coatings to apply to specific pieces of armor?
It would be great if you earned some amount of xp toward the battle pass after every match. Instead of only when completing challenges. It will take far too long to complete one tier after you’ve finished all weekly challenges and can only complete one daily at a time.
Edit: also now cant progress battlepass because all weekly challenges are completed and now the daily if for pop matches completed. I know this Is only specific for the flight but it keeps me from unlocking more customization items.
I think the news tab on the main menu should be much smaller and moved to a different spot. In its current position it covers half of the spartan, which makes it feel like the screen is cluttered. Making it 30% smaller, and shifting it further down (or to a different spot) would uncover the spartan and reduce the clutter.
AI voices and potential voice lines should be preview-able within the menus.
It would be nice to have the option to be able to see more customisation options on screen at one time.
Edit: When scrolling through customisation options, you should be able to preview the change by hovering over the item. Currently not doing so but I’m unsure if this is a bug or not.
I don’t have any issues with the UI but the Battlepass doesn’t always work and I have challenges for Objective game modes even though we can only play slayer so I cant progress it.
I do not think horizontal scrolling suits Halo customisation. I think if it were made vertical with our Spartan on the side with a zoom in on various parts we want to customise reach style it would be vastly more intuitive.
For the weapon UI, it would be really nice to be able to see the ammo remaining with the UNSC weapons under their crosshair, or at least have an option to enable such a feature.
I think it is really intuitive to vent the plasma weapons because I can see how close they are to overheating while firing, and in the same vein it would be nice to see how much ammo is remaining for the kinetic weapons at a glance.
The alpha channel for the “Customize” and “Shop” text needs to be increased, or the tabs at the top left of the Home Screen need to be larger/brighter. It took me a few extra minutes to even realize there were “Customize” and “Shop” tabs I could browse with LB/RB.
- I couldn’t find an option for the lowered crosshair which will upset a lot of people considering it’s become the defacto reticle for a lot of people. Being able to change reticle opacity, thickness, etc was fantastic though, and the attention to detail is impressive.
The Battle Pass UI feels really…zoomed in and cramped. Considering the size screens everyone has nowadays, and the resolutions, I don’t think it could hurt to show more information on the screen at once. I can see with Battle passes having a lot more tiers that only showing 5.5 levels on screen at once is going to become a pain to micromanage and sift through.
This problem also applies with the settings, as I wish there was some way to zoom out and have more settings on the screen at once. It’s not a big deal, but considering how extensive these settings are - thank you for that btw - having more visible at once would be a big help in navigating them.
This also extends to customisation, which, whilst it looks wonderfully rebust, is so clunky to sift through with the horizontal scrolling only showing a measly amount on screen at once.
- The in match UI is also brilliant. It’s clean, it’s got a lot of tiny details that stand out like when changing weapon it’ll state the name of the weapon underneath the picture of the model, and when you go to pick up a firearm and it details things like it’s ideal range, what sort of fire pattern it has, it all comes together so smoothly. The smart link especially. We’re playing Spartans. Even regular marines have smart links with their firearms that will display their reticule on their screen, so we never need to use ion sights that clunk up the screen and obfuscate the battlefield. Love the smart link.
The customization UI in the armor hall could use some tweaking. A few things come to mind:
-
Scrolling through the different armor coatings is very clunky and unorganized, especially because there are so many options and it’s just one long line. I can see this becoming a problem for other armor pieces as more things become available as well. I think the theme of everything being in one straight line is good for some things (battle pass maybe?) but not everything.
-
Use different pictures for the helmet and visor. Yes they have a small difference (the small icon in the top left corner), but would be better if they differed. Along those same lines;
-
There’s a picture for the armor elements except for the chest, wrist, and hip which are an icon for some reason.
Some other UI issues:
-
Getting to the battle pass is a bit strange. You can only get to it if you’re in the play tab and you press Y, or if you’re in the shop tab there is an option there. Would it make more sense to make it a tab of its own like play, customize, and shop?
-
The only way to get to your consumables is going to the battle pass, not super intuitive when point 1 is considered.
-
Same issue with getting to the challenges, just seems like something that should be easily accessible, maybe even if it was just on the main “play” screen that you could see at all times.
-
While I think the 100% trasparent background for the challenges looks sleek, it makes it a little hard to read the challenges.
Overall, while I think the rectangle and transparent/translucent background looks great, it’s not super intuitive especially when every option is in some long straight line.
When you melee it almost feels like you’re game loses frames for a second. Just doesn’t look super clean.
Biggest pet peeve for me is when customizing and looking at the options when left mouse clicking on a coating or anything to view it it opens the sub menu to inspect.
You can’t equip by left clicking in one step like you can if you select the items with the left right arrows and then press f to equip. Left clicking shouln’t open the inspect menu.
