Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

A few thoughts and observations:

  • The UI was a bit confusing to navigate as first, in particular selecting your new updated Spartan customization - Unable to change preview voices of Spartan AI - Unable to make adjustments of Spartan while waiting for the next match - Medals felt weak, small, and blurry.

Overall the UI is not too bad, a little cluttered in areas and could do with removing the requirement to click into so many areas to customize your Spartan, maybe a player model and click on the piece of armor you want to change, similar to this: https://s1.ibtimes.com/sites/www.ibtimes.com/files/styles/embed/public/2021/06/15/halo-infinite-will-feature-deeper-level-armor-customization.jpg Anthem and Destiny are both great examples.

Apart from that the only other thing I would like to see added is the ability to zoom in when customizing, as things are the Spartan model is too small and far away.

I think the UI is overall not too bad. Definitely the best in the 343i era. I think these two mockups people made on reddit (the first one for the customization menu, the second one for medal design) would go a long way towards improving the readability of the UI:

A carousel is just about the worst way to present large amounts of options. A vertical list or a grid is much better. With medals, I think more distinctiveness is needed especially since Infinite has so many medals compared to previous games. I know Flat UI is all the rage these days (it should NOT be at all), but a bit of skeuomorphic design can go a long way towards making things more easily distinguishable.

I like the battlepass UI, however 1 thing I didn’t like was the only way to gain Battlepass experience is to complete challenges. Players should receive a small amount of Battlepass (BP) experience when they complete a match. It doesn’t have to be a large amount but I don’t really like playing a match fully and seeing at the end screen that I made 0 actually progress on my BP lvling because I didn’t fully complete a challenge I was working on.
I would point towards systems like COD warzone and even Apex legends, where challenges give large xp amounts and are the fastest way to lvl up your BP but matches give a smaller pipeline of movement also so you never feel like your just spinning your wheels because I couldn’t get kills with some certain power weapon, or said weapon didn’t even spawn on the map I just played on.

I had so much fun this past weekend, played none stop and hope so much to get invited to the nest flight, 343 Halo Infinite it playing amazingly well, you are doing a fantastic job and can’t wait for full release, below are some issues I found with the UI though.

  • Give the in game medals a little more punch, too small and underwhelming - Option to preview BattlePass items before buying - Option to zoom in on Spartan model when customizing - Remove some of the clutter from UI - Give Boosters an easier method to apply, I could only find option via the BattlePass menu - Have option to turn on/off individual HUD elements and change HUD element sizes, like bigger radar. - The prosthesis area was confusing, needing to deselect some to apply others. - Lore should not need an additional area to access, should automatically be listed under the thumbnail - For end game stats can accuracy be broken down via weapon, rather then just saying 40% as example, would be a great tool to know which weapons I am bad with,Sidekick: 100%
    S7 Sniper: 0.01%
    MA40 Assault Rifle: 40%
    BR75 Battle Rifle: 40%
    VK78 Commando: 55%

General UI: I would like to see some rearranging/simplification to the main menu. It feels sort of hard to navigate. Possibly creating more drop menus or something. It feels like an overwhelming amount of different screens right now.

Customization: I’m not a huge fan of the horizontal scrolling for the armor options. Feels kinda messy right now. Maybe a vertical menu like MCC has for customization? If the armor thumbnails need to stay perhaps organizing it like destiny or anthem with the spartan in the middle and the images around it would work.

I think the store page looks pretty good as it is.

I like the format of the battle pass but I would like to see the ability to preview the items on our spartan before they are unlocked.

Challenges: I think the UI could be cleaned up a little bit as it feels a little claustrophobic. I would also like to see the ability to view challenge progress mid game.
As a side note, I don’t think challenges should be the only way to earn xp, but if they are, there should be no limit to daily challenges. They should just generate infinitely as you complete them.

HUD: I know its a small issue, but I kinda would like to see the weapon and grenade info moved to the top right. I thought I would get used to it but I never did. I would also like the ability to increase the size of HUD elements. I was having a hard time seeing the score and radar.

Side request: The ability to change the team outlines is SO good, but I was wondering if we could do the same for the HUD colors kind of like in doom eternal. It might also be cool to see new HUD themes added as cosmetics from the pass and store.

> During the next flight, can you please a supply more credits than 3000 credits to further stress test the Store throughout the flight process. There should also be a quantity counter Boost and Swap packs since this is a reoccurring purchases to allow customers to own how many packs they currently have acquired. As for the UI, it would be nice to be able to allow customization or a few rounds in the weapon drills while sitting in the lobby awaiting matchmaking.

A quantity counter for swaps of challenges is definitely needed.
The XP boost did have a counter when going to apply XP boost. Getting to that option wasn’t fluid, at first. But after the third attempt. Was able to navigate to boost and back to multiplayer within three minutes.
the time of changing menus may be exaggerated due to the exploration of other menu options/gear selection.

lots of layers to navigate.
not always bad, but can be when maximizing time use of XP.

The final score board was hard to read being white on off white but other than that it was amazing!:+1:

When I click shift+Alt to write in Arabic in the chat, the game crash immediately. In the Xbox if I write in Arabic, it appears like #####!!!

If this is the most ambitious Halo game you ever made, the game have to be localized to Arabic Halo community. All we need is Arabic text/dialogue. Halo Infinite is gonna be game as a service It is free to play. A lot of new comers. People here are very excited to play Halo Infinite after the tech preview. you should support Arabic language. Just Google how many people speak Arabic and how many gamers we have. You are just being ignorant if you didn’t support Arabic language, While supporting other languages who have less gamers like Japanese. I am not saying you shouldn’t support languages who have less players. I hope you understand my point. Don’t tell me it’s hard to do that because You have all the resources.

I found it unintuitive to navigate certain parts of the Battle Pass and Challenges.

It was easy to miss the consumables area - and once you activate a boost, the time remaining was only visible when in the Season menu. That timer should be on every screen before launching into a game.

I would also like to see a list of completed challenges each day / week. Would be nice to know what we completed.

While not a part of this exactly - I really hope we get some sort of baked in group/clan system for Infinite. Companies in Halo 5 may have had their issues, but ultimately they were an awesome way to form great communities. We need this to continue in some form for Infinite.

In my case, the interface did not look well optimized, it looked like in low resolution, playing on Xbox series s and on a 1080p and 144hz monitor
• I feel that the interface should be improved, be more minimalist, better organized and not show you much text
• When navigating the battle pass, the rewards did not load and I could not see what they were, and also the background would turn gray and I had to exit the game and re-enter
• In the customization, when making changes to aspects such as the legs and arms, the changes were not shown to me at the moment, it took many seconds to change the different aspects of the arms and legs or they did not change directly.
• In the starting search interface, they could remove unnecessary things such as: Connecting to the server, loading the map etc … and remove the blue boxes where they are.
• An addition that I would like in the game search interface is that when I find you players appear on the side with their level and rank, in halo reach it was interesting to know if you were going to face very good players (inheritor) during the game. game and if your team also had good players too.
• I feel that the hud in the gameplay is very saturated at the bottom (down), grenades could work well at the top.
• The hud when you are dead is saturated with text, I think they should remove the game hints or tips that appear in the middle on the right, because to be honest most do not pay attention to them, the respawn bar is unnecessary, just with the count countdown is fine or leave just one, this is the respawn bar and the countdown is unnecessary.
• And please let the assasinations come back

> The leader board after a game, is white on grey I am really struggling to read it. Hard to see any information , also I think the KD ratio is incorrect.

The same goes for the in game scoreboard.
Another issue that the medals on screen are tiny!!! Very difficult to see/read. The color scheme is also very different from past incarnations of them (this of course is a preference rather than an actual problem).

Horizontal customization menu is pretty annoying to look at. Having customization like the coatings being on the side of the screen would look much cleaner

-Player outlines not always clearly visible
-Don’t know how to detect fireteam members, or who each player is named as
-Cosmetic selections don’t always show correct icon, just a blank square
-Cosmetics doesn’t always apply or get equipped even if selected
-Couldn’t find out a way to mute a specific player on team (mic on by accident)

Not entirely sure if it will continue that way but yes managed to max out the pass on the 3 day, but it felt very limited that progress was tied only to challenges instead of at least getting some little ex for a match, or at least didn’t notice, in the result gave the impression you’re encouraged to play just a bit every day

The presentation was good but in terms of what is displayed would be better to have the full view of the Spartan and on the side all the coatings you own while on a separate box it shows all the ones you can obtain from current or previous battle pass

For the UI I really want a change from the current horizontal menus within the Spartan Customisation. I feel as if it shows a lot less stuff on screen and makes it pretty hard to navigate. Especially if you’re looking for something buried in your armour selections or coatings. Especially when the game grows over time & we have more and more items to scroll through - it’s going to take a long time.

Something like a 3x8 grid on either side of the screen would be a small change but would be such a quality of life change. Being able to see more and scroll less saves a lot of time in the long run.

Heres a example online that I thought was a really nice design for the coatings menu.
It could then be applied to helmets, gloves etc.

I also found that in the BattlePass it was hard to actually distinguish the difference between a Helmet or Visor. They grey highlight used to show what the item is isn’t very obvious at first glance. A icon of the actual armour piece itself or a more clear way of telling the user what is what would go a long way in knowing what I’m getting with each stage in the progression.

Also, would like to expand on the preview on armor pieces available to unlock

  • Being able to view coatings already owned and how will they be applied on the armor piece. On the search for more player expression with the coatings, during the tech preview most of folks were either using there’d arm coating or the Gundam coating, not making that much of a difference from the old sister of RvB each new season, so I would suggest

  • Allow players to have the option to choose if they want to apply full coating or just some of the piecesI consider this would be a more inviting and seducing way to interact and invite the player to experiment and really feel their Spartan is unique

Also if each match does not provide XP progress to season pass the will it give credits? It would be great for a future flight to have it clarified

Liked the way to unlock items via battlepass. I think the XP through Challenges is the legit way to go. Helps keep a lot of people on the same playing level and items.
The store gave me no issues and had a good refresh timer. Was an easy going experience.

There’s 57 pages here so I can’t go through all of them to see if this has already been reported, here goes:

  • In the part of the UI that lets you set prosthetics for your Spartan, setting a leg prosthetic seems to “randomly” affect the leg opposite of the one you wanted (left leg controls affect right leg).
  • In the vehicle room (where I assume you apply skins to vehicles), in my first run of the place the Scorpion was looking aight. After switching video settings to ULTRA and turning on ASYNC COMPUTE (not sure if actually related to the bug, but it’s the only difference between my forays into the vehicle room. On the second foray, the Scorpion’s “legs” were pointing down through the ground.
