Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

The UI felt reasonably okay although I would change the general layout, too many screens to go into in terms of customization. I would suggest looking at reach UI for idea of concept especially when picking out armor parts and shaders/color. Settings felt nice and screen transitions were smooth. Perhaps some more informative description when looking at things like dead deadzone etc. The battle pass was nice mix up to what I’ve seen before. I am concerned as to how it will actually fit in a supposed 10yr plan. Initially going with a cosmetic focus was indeed the safer choice.

Challenges seem to be reasonable but a little underwhelming for rewarded xp after completing them.

  1. Settings don’t save - for me it was my FOV, Spartan chatter ‘off’, for my friend it was alot more settings. Prosthetic menu also does not update when changing prosthetics.
  2. Showing the Ammo count in a clip with an image works better for me- tho i assume there is a good reason it is a number value now.
  3. Skewer too dark when zoomed in imo but to be fair I got used to it the more I played.

some ideas to reach a happy medium with the medals -

-return to the old style of colorful vibrant and unique medals from 3 and reach
but

  • include the tiered color rarity as a glowing animation behind the medal that increases in intensity depending on the rarity

maybe even throw in some fancy pop-in effects when the medal first shows up that are unique to the medal’s rarity or even the medal itself

this takes the best parts of both systems and combines them into something that looks like a natural evolution of the medals that people are fond of and freshens them up a bit

The UI is fine, better than Halo 5. The Battle Pass menu is ok-ish, I was looking for an option to preview the items in the BP but never found one. I know the content in the battle pass was just placeholder content, but for the love of satan, please include some weapon skins in the pass as I really don’t care that much for armor.

One thing I noticed that was really bad was the way Xp boosters are accessed. So maybe there is an easier way to do it but the only way I found to apply an XP boost was to go through the battle pass menu and then at the bottom of the screen it said ‘boosters’ or something like this and by pressing the respective button you would be redirected to the booster screen. If boosters are an important part of the progression system, then this needs to be more straight forward.

Challenges worked fine.

In MCC, we gain XP through playing the game and this XP is accumulated at the end of every match - is there such a system in Infinite? Because I feel like it needs to be.

The UI while actually playing the game is very good, although the medals need to be much more visible and exciting.

Fireteam/lobbies : Felt tucked away and not a main focus. I liked knowing who was all in my lobby or fireteam without having to go in a menu or hot a button to show them. I would much rather have them show up at all times when in the menu or searching for a match.

The UI text felt small, the medals were in a weird spot and the kill feed needed to be bigger and more obvious.

Lastly the battlepass felt weird getting to, id put it on the top where its always there in any menu and you can just click it to go straight to it, same with the customization.

> Getting rid of team colours is a great idea, wish the bots werent all the same colour to test it. However the outlines are distracting and really take away from the visuals. Id much rather a system where allies have their id/tag visible and enemies have no identifer at all.

> I really hate unnecessary huds, incase that isnt apparent lol. Games good tho i do enjoy it.

> There was some classic halo music i heard once when i first started the game that was great. There is some music that plays repeatedly and it makes me depressed, really would like to swap this out for something more like halo 3 sick “riffs”. Also playing this music at the “halfway point” really throws me off and ruins the atmosphere/vibe for me. Maybe some like it, but for me its distracting and id turn the music volume to 0 if possible.

This is exactly one of the things I came to say.

  • Add the option to toggle off each hud item, not just all of them at once.
  • Add the option to change the color of your hud.
  • Add the ability to change the size of hud items, or even rearrange them like some other games.

Personally I prefer the medals of 1,2 and 3. If they added the new medals with the same theme as those games I’d be over the moon!

Dropped grenades that glow needs to go! The amount of times I’ve thought they were live…

I think equipping items from the battle pass that you’ve unlocked would be a good idea. Going into settings, battle pass, customisations shouldn’t bring you out of searching for a game.

Also, earning XP through playing the game and accruing medals should be a thing (and have it shown like it does after a game on MCC).

Also, Red Vs Blue, either needs to come back, or at the least it needs to be implemented in ranked (and have an option for it in social playlists).

The after game report is good (but would be nice to see a further breakdown if you press LB/RB like there is on MCC.

Anyway, excited (and can’t wait) to see what the final game looks like!

The menu and lobby are very messy, in particuar the customization part.

  • CUSTOMIZATION: I don’t think that big horizontal squares are the right solution, maybe a vertical layout where you can see the body parts in order, like putting head first, then torace, arms, legs ecc. Putting nameplate near your spartan’s model would be nice, so that you can select directy the part of the body you want to change on your spartan - Battle pass: In the battle pass menu, it happened many times that the game wouldn’t load the icons in the squares - UI: I don’t konw if it was a bug, but I couldn’ t distinguish the colors between my friends playing in my group and the rest of the team. Also gamertag or personal tag are not visible during the match, so is basically impossible to find your friends during a match.

I would like to be able to gain XP outside of battle pass challenges, just for playing games. It felt limiting to only be able to level exclusively through challenges.

There were only 2 times I struggled navigating the UI.

#1 was trying to use XP boosts. I found it awkward that I had to go into the battle pass and hit Y to go to a menu to use the XP boosts. If there was another way, I never found it.

#2 I kept trying to hit B while deep in some menus to return to the home screen and it would only bring me to the top of that particular menu and then I would have to use the bumpers to get to the home screen. I like the bumpers navigating from left to right and picked it up fairly quickly however my brain kept trying to use B to navigate home.

Thank you.

When I would change each teams it would make it harder to tell who was friend/foe on the radar. Do you think that could be changed to light blue for friends and red for your foes on the radar?

For the menus, the UI seems too big and clunky, a little too convoluted, ESPECIALLY the armour customisation UI. Side scrolling takes way, way too long, and is just a really inefficient way of going about armour customisation. A reach-style UI would work way, way better. Everything is right there where I can see it, and I don’t need to spend forever scrolling across the screen for something I want. Looks messy and poor too. Something simple like it used to be is just so much nicer to be around, aesthetically as well.

My biggest UI issue is the end game screen. The box that shows stats can be VERY hard to read with the color combo of the box and the font. It blends in more and more as you go to the end of the box. Please change some of the coloring to make it easier to read.

I think this falls under UI? One of my only complaints as I was scrolling through customizing armor and whatnot, I had no idea how to choose between the different AI personalities. Maybe there was a button I missed, but it seemed to only be based on the shape of the AI face, no preview of voices?

Also, when I would unlock new customizations, it didn’t seem like there was any obvious/exciting way to notice you unlocked something!

The UI, in my opinion, is at best, a disaster.
It was very difficult to move from Customize to Play and selecting items in the Armory and having to basically select it twice seems cumbersome.
This is aside from the Beta-glitches.
I hope that there will be serious instructions and a tutorial included.

I also had the same problem with the prosthesis

The loading/lobby screen in multiplayer should allow you to access armor customization so that you don’t have to back out of multiplayer to make changes.

All my complaints about the customization UI are answered by this guy’s mock-up alternatives.

  • The Flight UI’s problems
  • Inefficient use of space. All these overly large icons across the bottom of the screen that requires a scroll bar, when everything could have been easily been displayed in a single vertical slice. The current method is going to be a huge problem as players get more and more items over the years and make the filters way too mandatory. - Way too many sub-menus, why is lore and other information hidden behind a button press? With some shifting around, you could easily get everything on screen. Please have a look at what this guy cooked up, I think it’s the answer.

Good Job,
My concern is the after game statistics is not good.
Make it like halo 3, so I can easily compare my team Vs opposing team.
Have one Standard and one more details, as it is now. But Please add “power ups used”. So there is something other than kills and assists to compare with.

Also i want to add one on the *More details’. The accuracy, can you Please spøot it up into weapon accuracy and grenade accuracy?? Would be so good to know where the missing accuracy is.
Say if i spray grenade to keep my opponent away, my accuracy will fall, although my weapon accuracy might be Great, at 55-65%…see my point?

Might also want to add private statistics, which can be review in the Halo waypoint app… For each weapon, each map etc.

In general, the UI needs an overhaul, the menus should be more stupid, and the submenus needs a smaller font, or make this a setting on its own, so people can see the menu as they preger.

In fact, how about making another entire menu user-created. 8 different “hotspot” menus, I dont think I will use all of your menues.
For competetive players I only need the sensistivity and video/sound and playing parameter. Not the armory and all that stuff…

I had issues reading the scoreboard after a match cause the text was white and background was white. I would also like to get XP to battle pass for just playing a match, the challenges are cool but felt a bit slow and required some thinking when i just kind wanted to sit back and chill. Some of the scrolling things, like battle pass and customization were a bit clunky too but not a huge deal. Loved the game! Thanks
