Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

I personally feel that the UI could be far better if organized in a more grid-like style than the long single lines that make up most of the customization menu. For example the armor coatings menu should not make you scroll for long amounts of time to see all the coatings. Also, I feel like many of the menus could be condensed so that there aren’t so many sub-menus that require clicking in and out of.

i could barely get into matches (i think cause my firewall) but i didnt have any major issues with the hud, i would recomend adding a hud color change if not for it being cool but maybe for colorblind people (i dont know how colorblindness works) my main problem is that we cant choose our own colors(yes i knew this already but come on there was seafoam and salmon theres no way that was not a joke) i am no game designer but i can imagine it would be that hard to have a system where you can change wearstate or have one arm be all red, i mean if you look at anthem you could even customize the material.

To be fair most of the colors were fine (I liked the RvB reference in the AI color menu) and im definitely being picky, i do belive you will do a good job with infinite and i really am exited to see where this goes.

on a sidenote not that this matters but i feel like the sidekick is too generic, it looks good but it doesnt give me the halo vibes, it looks like a real pistol specifically the P320, but i do like most of it just think the handguard should be bigger like in the other halo games

love the work
sincerely, a overly critical halo fan

The customization section needs some work. Having to scroll through everything horizontally looks good, but when you get 20 different shaders or armor pieces, it’ll be a huge pain to have to navigate. I enjoy the opening screen where your guy is standing, and I enjoy the whole design (looks wise) of the armor hall. Just needs to be made more accessible.
A fun thing to have is that while in the menus, you could move your Spartan using the right stick.

My main concern with the UI is the customization UI, I feel like how you select coatings, armor etc shouldnt be presented in a horizontal way. what happens when we collect a lot of coatings or armor? i feel like horizontal UI is way to clunky and takes way to long to find what you need, I think the customization UI should be using more vertical menus, and also show more coating options on screen so you dont have to keep scrolling to the right to find exactly what you need.

I love the HUD layout also the great balance in the Smart Link when you aim. But you should add the icons of the power-ups (invisibility, damage Up, speed Up) the icon like Halo 5, it was very clear and important in the gameplay action.
The overshield doesn’t need it, its very clear in the shield/health bar.

I strongly believes that we should be getting Shield colour option sepratedly from the Friendly, Enemy and Fireteam UI colours option

I’m a big fan of the new energy shield colours it’s a great additional, however, I do think it should be a separate option from the outline UI colours

For example I like using Lime colour for my own team and sapphire colour for enemy team but I’m not fan of the shield colour and want to change that to perhaps the yellow shield for my team and blue shield for the enemies
Can mix and match the shield colours

Have the option to choose the energy shield colour for:

  • Friendly team - Enemy team - Fireteam team - Possibly your own one (sepratedly from team/fireteam colour)Alongside with the UI colours that’s currently in game

Also I like to point out that the shield recharge screen effect is tinted yellow no matter what UI colours you have, maybe change that from always yellow to whatever colour that matches your shield colour. (It’s a bit jarring seeing my own energy shield being green but the shield recharge screen effect is subtle yellow)

Me gustan los desafíos del pase de batalla, pero sería bueno si no solo subiera los niveles del pase con misiones, también que subieras de nivel con medallas o jugando un juego como en TMCC

I’m personally not a huge fan of just challenges for XP. Would also like to get XP for just playing the game in general.

The HUD looks really good in game, the one thing I’d change is the placement of the medals, I’d have them larger and above the kill feed, like seen in previous Halo titles such as 2/3.

The customisation menu needs to be changed from horizontal to vertical in my opinion, I could see the horizontal layout getting really tiresome with a lot of different items in the list, having to scroll through all of them. Also, as a side note, I don’t like the new change where customisation isn’t accessible when you’re searching for a game, I understand why it has a separate menu but I do miss customising my Spartan whilst queuing for a game. Another big miss for me is the Halo 5 styled emblems coming back, not a huge fan of preset emblems, wish they had more elements of customisation. I also didn’t like the fact the “at a glance” scoreboard seemed to be gone from the menus after you’d completed a match, if you want to see how your teammates did in the game, you have to go through and look at each player individually.

The main menu music is phenomenal however.

I’ll start off with the control panel menu, I have a few gripes with this…

  1. There is an option to go to the lobby, even though you are 1 button press away… pressing the lobby button does nothing but remove the lobby button when you press start again.
  2. Last game results (IMO) should not have a place in the same area where you access game settings… if you want last game results, press the left stick in the menu (or your alternate equivalent.) do not put it in the V.I.P. UI zone. Side note: Please consider replacing this with a shortcut to the “Customize” segment. kthx luv you.
  3. Season progress probably shouldn’t be here, I say this only because you’ve got a simpler way of getting there by just pressing “Y” (or alternate equivalent)… having the option to go through the start menu is just extra steps for what is already a streamlined process.
  4. This is a personal preference, but having patch notes and support just be replaced with “Halo waypoint”… I mostly say this because I’m on console and I don’t plan on accessing waypoint through my xbox when the laptop already makes it super EZ and I don’t feel like there should be 2 separate links to the same site regardless of how well your intentions are.

Aside from that… the minimalist, cubic style is pretty straightforward, easy on the eyes, and not distracting, so, good job there, it gets the job done well.

Moving on to the season pass and Store:
I like the season pass, but I feel all games played should give you a flat 25, 50 XP, this way the XP bonus has a little more use, makes a little more sense, and doesn’t stop people from progressing when they do their dailies and weeklies, let people who play, progress.
The “Daily” flag in the store is really tiny and hard to read and overall the store UI is kind of, bland, as the only thing that stands out is the real tiny “daily” flag, mostly because it looks like it shouldn’t be there, but the way the bundles show you everything and the price being clear is nice, hopefully when the game comes out, you have a wide enough variety to keep the store interesting, and I’m hoping that you can buy every type of item from it, maybe more prosthetic and A.I. options on top of the Skins and Kits.

  • The medals should be displayed to the left or right of the screen and be bigger. Also don’t really care for the rarity colors and would rather them have their own unique color… maybe a rarity border color?

  • I feel the score at the bottom of the screen should be a bit bigger.

  • when scoped in with the sniper, I feel the black needs to be a bit more transparent around the scope. - No gamertags or service ids were present above teammates in game

I’d prefer a vertical menu for armor customization, like how reach did it.

So with the battle pass I do think that; with this list

  1. matches should have some form of XP gain from them as when I run/ran out of challenges I couldn’t traverse further through it
  2. I have no issues with the store I was worried it was going to be too fortnite is or apex-e but it works well
  3. The challenges I enjoyed no issues, except what the capstone I think it was challenge or platinum challenge I had no idea what that was, but I just went along with it. Besides that I enjoyed the challenges and you could make some very broad or some very specific like “use s plasma pistol to take out the shield of enemies or at least once of each enemy on the opposing team.”

Here are all of the issues related to the UI and Battle Pass I noticed during the tech preview (FYI, I played on an Xbox One S):

Bugs: - When I opened the settings menu during matches, the menu would randomly flicker on and off the screen in the span of less than a second. - It would often take several seconds before the background in the main menu would fully load textures, most noticeably with the Pelican. - When adding a prosthetic leg to my Spartan in the “Body & AI” menu, if I switched that leg back to “None”, it would still visually look like there was a prosthetic leg. Once I exited and reentered the menu, however, the leg would return back to normal.Other Issues: - In the “Body & AI” menu, I wasn’t able to rotate my Spartan. This may not be a bug, but if so then I think rotating should be added here because I want to see how body types and prosthetics compare to others from every angle. - I don’t know if this was planned to be in the final game and just wasn’t used in the Battle Pass for the tech preview, but I don’t recall earning any credits from leveling up in the Battle Pass. I’d prefer if this were the case, as it’d make levelling up feel more rewarding and I think players would appreciate not having to spend additional money for Store items after already having purchased the Battle Pass. - Please add in the option to hear each AI’s voice before equipping them. I want to be able to choose my AI based on how they sound, not look, as I’ll be hearing them in-game more than seeing them, and having to equip each AI and test them out in a game before picking one is really tedious.

The UI and menus are really the only areas in the preview that I the biggest issues with. Everything else has mostly been great. Here is my feedback (I play on PC):

  • Muting someone in your lobby needs to be a button and click or something of that matter. Needs to be way easier. - On KB+M, when going into multiple menus and trying to ESC or back out to the main menu, it isn’t streamlined to do so. You always have to ESC and then click the tabs at the top to navigate back to the main menu if you want to visit the customization menu or shop. - After a match, the battle pass never loaded correctly. A default spartan was shown, non of the thumbnails for the tiers loaded, and it said I needed to purchase the battle pass even though I already did. - Actually equipping items when viewing them in the battle pass was bugged or just not working right. The press F to equip never shown up half the time. You had to actually click on and go into the description of the item and click the tiny little box on the thumbnail to equip or just hope the “press F to equip” eventually shown up. And on top of this, the game should let you equip the item you’re hovering over without having to select the tier first. This is a huge QoL change that is really nice. The battle pass in Warzone does this and its really smooth. - You should be able to cycle through the battle pass using the A and D keys. - When there is eventually going to be a ton of customization options in the game, having a single horizontal thing to scroll through is going to take forever and be extremely unintuitive. - The game should reward you XP just for playing and not only from completing challenges. I feel like this will certainly be the way the final game would be and it just wasn’t set up for the build. I couldn’t imagine it not being like that. - I would prefer if the UI was similar to H3 or Reach in the sense that it wasn’t just a flat font on a screen. The transitions between the menus in the those games worked great with how they were set up. I get the sense of a target of minimalism from this menu, but after you add all the stuff you need to add, it ends up being cluttered while trying to be clean at the same time. - The background of the main menu of the flight is awesome. Albeit follows the current FPS trend. But its to help showcase your customization in a fireteam so its 100% fine with me. - I am not a fan of the squared, blocky font that is present in the entire game honestly. The more rounded font from Halo 2 and 3 had more of an identity and seemed less generic. Also I preferred to look at that font and over this one. I realize this kind of font has been present in all 343 Halo’s, and I haven’t been a fan since day 1. - The scoreboard at the bottom middle of the screen during game play needs an overhaul. It looks very basic and doesn’t fit in with the rest of the HUD. Just doesn’t look great, sorry, I can’t word it any better. - The shields/health bar is amazing! - The postgame carnage report needs to present important information better and also split up the lobby into the teams everyone was on. I do like the stats it does provide though. - Medals just need to be bigger, and I would like to see their artwork just reworked altogether. The uniqueness from the older games still trumps what has been tried in the last few entries. Also some kind of animation of them fading or rolling in would help like how H3 does it. - I would like to see the color of your foe should not transition to the color of your reticle when on an enemy. I.E. if you have your foe outline set to yellow, I would still like to have my reticle light up red when aiming at them. Also, I wish the color of the outline didn’t light up enemies shields in the same color you have selected.

This feedback pertains to my experience playing on Xbox Series X:

  • I found that playing the game with the HUD disabled was great, but the option to toggle each specific part of the HUD would be appreciated (e.g. reticle, radar, kill feed, shield indicator, pings, etc) - Playing without the HUD made it painfully obvious that the outline system is not working consistently. It was common to walk into a room with two bots and two teammates and being totally unable to figure out who is who. Please give RvB and disabled outlines as an option, clarity in combat is a million times better than cosmetics. - When playing without HUD, the behavior of ADS was inconsistent. During some matches the BR or Spiker would properly display the ADS scope/reticle, in other matches it would zoom in without any scope at all. That also affected the zoom overlay not appearing occasionally for other weapons like the sidekick, AR, etc. - The current outline and shield system makes it really difficult to tell how damaged your opponents are. It’s difficult to strategize weapon choice and ammo usage when the visual feedback is unreliable in this way. - Don’t know if this necessary counts as UI, but the ai assistant needs to have a toggle option. On that note, turning off spartan chatter had no effect and that was a pain. - The network statistics data only displayed “0 ms” at all times, it is busted.

el inicio (Battle Pas, personalización , tienda) tenían el error común de que no cargaban bien al cambiarlos o después de terminar una partida y solo se veían los iconos vacíos o la imagen de fondo llegaba a distorsionarse

I absolutely love the ui and overall presentation of the game is so much better than H5. Seriously loved seeing my fireteam in the main menu chilling next to the pelican, such a nice detail. Also really loved the spartan preview sub menus, very clean and the lighting is perfection. So much has improved, congratulations to the ui team definitely.

I feel that the interface is a bit complicated, perhaps because we are talking about a technical test, but it has some errors, it is difficult to navigate because sometimes it does not show the option you want, the options do not load and other times you want to change your helmet and you are done pressing the color, When you start the multiplayer, the sample images do not load, The entire screen remains gray, Except for the background that is very beautiful. the interface is very lonely for me.
