Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

Suggestion: as example, while viewing the row of coatings in the armory, clicking the checkbox should equip it immediately. Currently the user needs to enter an additional screen to equip the coating. Also applies to other armor parts menu’s.

Surely everyone has mentioned but,m in the Technical preview I got stuck on level 8 of the battle pass, I spent all the money that was given to buy the BP and other items, and ran out of challenges to keep leveling, would be good to have more challenges or have the BP be dependant on XP asides from challenges only.

  • Few bugs on UI when going back from the store to the main menu, if you go super fast, the background camera doesn’t follow and ends up lost showing a gray asset instead of your spartan, a way to fix it is simply go back to another menu and then back again at a normal speed.

  • The “Press Y to matchmake” message after finishing a match still appears after pressing Y and start searching for a new match, sometimes it’s confusing as it made me wonder if I had pressed it or not, could be a bug, but the message should dissapear after you press Y.

Overall the layout is very intuitive, according to other games, customization could be improved, I don’t enjoy scrolling from left to right when searching for an item, a 3 columns grid showing all your coatings and pieces would be better IMO, saves time.

Played on a Series X.

In gameplay, I feel like I have to actively take my eyes off the crosshair to look at my grenades and ammo. There have been times in the flight where I die because I wasn’t aware of my ammo or grenades.

I increased the opacity to max, and it helped with visibility but still had to take my eyes off the crosshair to see my resources. Also did not like how I could only see the inventory of one grenade at a time. Perhaps a grenade stock similar to Halo 3 would be good? or Reach since we can only hold two types of grenade.

I feel like multikill medals should be bigger and positioned similar to Halo 5 so they’re not in the way. I think that multikills should only be announced on the killfeed AFTER the multikill runs out of time. That way people will not run away, hurting the chances of seeing a higher multikill.
While I understand the colour choices for the multikill medals, I feel like each multikill and spree medals should have their own colours. I think having the same colour for some kinda dampens the effect of getting high multikills. For me at least, the different colours gave me a sense of ‘gotta get all of them’ just because they were all different.

Also I feel that battle pass XP should be earned every game, with medals giving extra xp (similar to MCC). In the Insider Flight, progress was stuck behind challenges. I think the challenges should supplement the XP gains both in player level and battle pass.

Please have emblems be colour customisable. A core of player expression is being able to colour the emblems in any way possible. In the Waypoint App beta, there was only an emblem picker. Myself and others had a lot of similar emblems.

Consumables are a bit difficult to find on the menu. Also, I would strongly prefer the XP boosts to be in-game time vs the real-time counter that was present.

Need to be able to start searching for a game and view previous game info while continuing the game search.

Need options for classic hud placements. XP needs to be earned every game. Horizontal menus are not ideal. Could allow for more freedom in weapon placement on screen. Crosshair options would be welcomed. Menus need to be changed, can’t see armor or weapon customization while searching for a game. Only having waist customization is not good for player expressions. Spartans aren’t blessed in the caboose department and as a woman I would like that to be an option. Make challenges more interesting instead of “play a match.”

I personally like the ui. Anything can be improved though ig. I do think that there should be more ways to earn xp for battle pass more ways then jus challenges. I also feel like there should be an overall level separate from battle pass to represent experience and time in the game

In the tech preview th only way to progress was if you completed challenges i think that’s really bad
Give credits for completed games for how many kills you had or assisst reward players that played good similar to halo reach
and i hope there is a option to buy some armor witz ingame credits and not everything is locked behind the battlepass system (free or not free) some armor should be earbed directly trough challenges

The removal of RvB made it more difficult to distinguish players. I appreciated the accessibility options that allowed for player outlines to be customized as the Red and Blue outlines too frequently clashed with armor shaders.

I found the yellow outline to be my preferred color setup for the enemy team. However this raised another issue- attention being pulled away by the similarly yellow colored “!” alert (I presume when my teammates were under fire). I would appreciate being able to customize the alert colors as well to avoid any overlap.

In whole, a very enjoyable experience- congrats and thanks to the team.

What has been on my mind the most is the sound effects, Im hoping that there will be a ton of options to turn off specific sounds like the kill confirmation sound and other random sounds similar to that or even being able to turn off the spartan voices or leave them on in the audio UI menu. I think it would be very awesome to be able to do so with each individual sound and it would create a very customizable experience. The 343 team is doing a great job and Im already loving how this game is turning out, it is definitely the experience most Halo players have wanted for a long time. The perfect mix of modern and classic. The game play looks amazing and Im very happy the team decided to keep sprinting and climbing, it adds dynamic gameplay to an already great game.

I honestly thought the UI was pretty good, for me definitely an improvement from halo 5 with its at times quite sluggish UI. But I think some things could do with improvements like the armour hall. For example, having to select each piece of your Spartans customisation through a horizontal menu is quite tedious and that’s with only a small amount of customisation available. Using the vertical space more would definitely improve this as you could display more on screen.
The store functioned as expected as it is very similar to other video game stores. No ground breaking issues were found by me either which is a positive.

The UI seems very placeholder, so I’m hoping it changes.

  1. The In-game UI - I like the in-game UI a lot. I like the placement of everything. Having the gun/ammo in the bottom right corner is really nice. However, the information is limited. I like that it shows numbers, but it would be nice if the bullet icons were added back as well. Both sets of grenades you are carrying need to be displayed as well. There is more than enough room there for all of this. Overall, I feel that the UI should be customizable. Allow players to choose the placement, and the information displayed on their screen, and keep each part separate. The UI resize thing was unusable, mainly because it moves everything at once, and it all ends up cluttered in the middle of the screen.

  2. The Menus - They are a bit confusing and kinda hard to navigate. (There was a long list of options, add a feature to fast scroll, or jump to the bottom.) The scoreboard in game was also too transparent, and some information was not visible on some sections of the maps. This should be made more visible so that you can understand the information with a quick peek. As for the overall menus, I think they need some of that classic Halo blue. The white theme is basic and clean, but it lacks character and that Halo feeling to it.

Overall my opinion is customization, customization, customization, and options, options, options.

The batlepass Is good but the Exp Is very slow to feel the pass

My feedback on the UI is that it needs some work. The menu for choosing customization is frustrating and I’m not a fan of scrolling to the side which is something I’ve seen other users criticize. Many of the customization items were confusing to equip. Sometimes it seemed to let me equip an item and other times I felt like I had to fight with it to let me equip something. The UI is a combination of confusing and being more complicated then it seems to need to be. Some of the coating choices also seemed broken and buggy and wouldn’t load properly for me. I also had one time where some coatings appeared to be equitable even though they shouldn’t have been because they were still locked. I think on release of the game it would be nice to have a more readable UI at the least that you can tell how to select certain options and you should be able to easily equip items and organize them in a way that feels intuitive. The UI from the test did not come across to me as easy readable or intuitive very much at all and I imagine if left this way it will continue to be a frustration to future players.

I also thought some things were in really weird places as well, like finding the place I could use the XP boost was difficult to navigate to and felt hidden away. I hope a lot of these things can be looked at and fixed or tweaked for the release of the game. The UI was the thing I found to be the most frustrating aspect of the game out of everything else. (Aside from the settings menus, I found those to be perfectly serviceable personally.)

The battle pass should progress by playing the game, not just challenges.

Some simple images showing micro changes to be made:

Imgur: The magic of the Internet Previews, why is this a button? This shouldn’t be a key press, this should be default and should show the helmet on your spartan straight away, not a separate button to do so

Imgur: The magic of the Internet Extra layers of pointless UI, Infinites UI is a cluttered mess of live service nonsense, you want as little layers of UI as possible, the image shown is the page you are brought to when you select on either cosmetic you are looking at, and gives you more detail about said cosmetic, but there is no reason for this to be the case, the required information could so easily fit onto the layer just before this page and say the required information when hovering over the cosmetic (the previous image is the UI just before clicking on the helmet)

Imgur: The magic of the Internet Horizontal UI in general, this is awful, please think about using vertical UI for selecting items across the entirety of Infinite, in the image shown you can see there is a completely undeeded scroll bar so see all the items, to which the user feedback for hovering over these items is essentially either broken or not implemented

Imgur: The magic of the Internet Infinite’s Battle Pass and MCC’s Battle Pass Comparison, MCC actually shows more information in a cleaner fashion, again the use of scroll bars is a little ridiculous and can be circumvented by vertical scroll bars or simply better scaling with the UI menu

Some things to improve: Overall the game is fun, The UI feels bloated/busy there are way too many things going on and it does not make sense. It is better than Halo 5 but still way too busy. The menus and the Spartan’s hud in game all have extra lines and dots which seem to be added for aesthetics, but this looks bad and like they were added just for the sake of adding them. They take away from the game’s experience and make the menus feel overwhelming.

Halo CE through Reach has amazing and simple UI. If Halo Infinite is meant to pay tribute to and honor what came before then Menus, Navigation, and the Spartan’s hud are essential to the experience and goal. Please clean them up, make them simple, clean minimal, user friendly, and honor Halo’s legacy with the beautiful menus and huds that came before. I would love to help clean these up and provide more feed back. I have specific ideas of what to change and remove and tweak. If you want to hop on a Zoom call or FaceTime…

I have a few thoughts on the new Battle Pass system:

  • I was a little confused by the challenge system. On the first night of the preview my weekly and daily challenges continued to be replaced with fresh ones after they completed. On the second day I completed the “capstone” challenge for the weekly challenges, I wasn’t sure what triggered that or how many challenges needed to be completed before it would be available. On those days I also seemed to have an inconsistent number of daily challenges available. - I think earning a small amount of XP per match may also be useful? I know the goal is to prevent grinding / forcing players to feel like they need to play or they’ll be missing out, but it was a little frustrating trying to complete the battle pass in just a few days once I completed all the challenges. I feel there should be a way to level up the battle pass without paying at all times. - Items unlocked through the battle pass or the store should have some kind of “new” marker in the armor hall / weapons locker / etc.

Battle Pass Progression and Challenges:

The daily and weekly challenges being the only route for a player to earn XP towards the battle pass is frustrating and disappointing in it’s current state.

  • Challenges can’t be difficult if they’re the only means for any and every player’s progression in the pass.
It becomes another chore list to complete instead of legitimately challenging your players.
  • Limited daily challenges artificially halt progression to a stand still forcing players to either pony-up extra dough or wait 15 hours to inch forward and be frozen again.

A better route would be to have the players earn XP every game, with challenges being a difficult, interesting and OPTIONAL way to earn EXTRA XP along the way. Another addition could be to award players a certain amount of XP depending on how they played a match compared to their last to motivate improvement and keep them WANTING to play the game.

The other, admittedly easier, way of fixing the problem would be to never limit how many daily challenges a player can complete but that still runs the issue of the challenges being busy work rather than testing a player’s skill.

When your game says, “you’ve played too much” in it’s award system, it dissuades the player to keep playing the game and promotes stagnation rather than improvement. You don’t work to be better if you know the least amount of effort is all it takes to pass.

The armor system etc was easy to navigate despite a few minor issues like some prosthetic changes not being reflected until I closed and reopened the armor piece. I was a little annoyed by the lack of ability to just choose my favorite colors, but some coatings available were cool. I did’t find any in particular I liked, but wasn’t all that annoyed by that. I was mostly frustrated by the lack of armor options, the ones that were available all felt like they were from halo 4 or 5 and had a very non serious/military aesthetic. So far I would have preferred the stock MVII helmet that was in the trailer or the throwback Halo reach options.
