Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

While I thinking having interesting color combinations is a wonderful idea for the battle pass, I also think it is important to provide the option of having basic primary and secondary colors. You can have preset colors in the battle pass that is three or more colors. This would help the customization you are trying to achieve.

That’s a great idea

I thought that overall, the UI was fairly navigable and clear, and most things seemed to work okay. I do think that a few tweeks could really improve it.
First I think that having the header of the section you are navigating visible would help the user keep track of where they are in a menu. For example, have “Body and AI” visible when you are looking at prosthesis and ai customization.
Sometimes while looking at the season pass, or within customization, the item highlighted would would either not appear in the icon, or not display on the spartan in front of you, so you couldn’t see what you were looking at.
Having a preview or speech sample of the AI would be useful, so you have a chance to get to know them before making a decision to select.

Further within UI, there were some bugs in accessibility that I found.

  • toggling the spartan chatter did not always work properly
  • playing with voice chat setting didn’t always work. Disabling “open mic” didn’t turn off the voice chatter.

I’m not sure if HUD fits within UI, but here’s some feedback I had.

  • I love the accessibility and customization available in the section. Being able to play with opacity, vertical and horizontal placement, was all super cool.
  • I did find that within the HUD, it seemed a a little cluttered. Having your kill info displayed in the middle of the screen as well as on the left seemed a little distracting and redundant.
  • I was never able to really see what was happening in the lower right corner at all. The weapon, grenades, and eqiupment seemed crammed together, and too small.
Being able to adjust the size, as well as the overall placement of this info would be awesome. For example being able to take that weapon info, increase the size by 10 percent, and place it in the top right corner.
  • I had a consistent bug throughout the inter flight where only the right half of my reticle was visible.
  • It would also be nice to have the option of being able to lower the reticle like in the classic games.

The would prefer the positioning of the gun logo/bullet amount/equipment to be in the top right, similar to older Halos.

Being able to see my party members in the main menu.

I did not like the newer medals. Giving me the option of using older styled medals with the addition of the new medals would be great.

I think this is the right thread for this: I noticed in a firefight that when hiding behind the Drop Wall, the ping system would only mark the wall itself and not go through the equipment to show my team where the enemies were starting to spawn at.

Thanks for allowing us in to try the build!

The battle pass was fine, to be a beta, if this was the case, the Infinite one will be incredible, the store is also very well distributed and accessible, let’s hope the cost of the points is somewhat accessible, something I do want is for the pass to have more challenges because it was slow to go up in this beta.

The UI is good but not perfect, a would like more shining colours in the menus

Can we have an option to edit the opacity of the “glow” around enemy and teammates?

the glow is too much for me, its hard to make out what the other spartans look like underneath it

I think getting rid of the “red vs blue” team colors is a good thing, I was excited to see it, and i know you want it to be clear who is friendly and who is enemy, but honestly for me its not hard to tell and id rather just not have the glow at all.

Ive seen the other posts in these threads… i hope you know what to listen to and what not to listen to

I’ve separated UI and Battle Pass feedback below.

UI Feedback

  • I like that Motion Sensor only detects enemies moving faster than the default movement speed. I feel that it encourages movement on the player’s part, made engagements more frequent, and rewards players who communicate more frequently. - The Marking system felt picky when it came to marking enemy locations as it often marked the area without indicating enemies. It seems to mark enemies only if they’re directly under the player’s reticle, which at that point I’d just be shooting them. Giving greater leeway, like extending the marking radius to be slightly larger than the player’s reticle, would help make this experience feel more consistent. - Accessing the Battle Pass consumables and viewing their duration, like XP boosts, was buried in the pass under multiple inputs. Having them visible and available in the immediate Battle Pass menu would be preferable as players would likely check them in-between most matches. - Customization menus felt non-responsive and equipped items didn’t always save. This may have been a side-effect of the servers during the Flight, but I felt it was worth noting. - Seeing the check mark (:ballot_box_with_check:) on customization options the player is actively selecting was difficult since the entire selected box background turns white and the check mark is small. Preserving the item box’s rarity color and emphasizing the outline of the box when an item is highlighted by the player may help with readability. - When using the Grappleshot it is hard to see the yellow indicator that shows a surface/object can be grappled to due to its size. Making this indicator more pronounced may help recognize it, especially in areas with warmer lighting like the center of the map Recharge. - Fireteam colors didn’t seem to be working in matches (don’t remember if this was on the known issues page). - The viewmodel location sliders for Heavy Weapons didn’t appear to make much (if any) difference on the weapons’ on-screen location when wielded. Specially, the Skewer doesn’t seem to be affected by these settings (it could just be really massive I guess). - The zoom option on weapons without scopes, like the Assault Rifle and Needler, are great! I like that they don’t have significant impact on gameplay and rather serve to simply see a bit further. - I missed seeing Service Tags/Names over my allies. The absence of these made vocal callouts a lot harder when I didn’t know who was who at a distance. - While in a match if a player opened the Pause Menu and Scoreboard at the same time all UI elements would turn invisible (reproducible on PC at least). - Navigating sub-menus, like Customization, was awkward with a mouse and keyboard given you had to use keyboard inputs to get around and not mouse.Battle Pass Feedback

  • Using timed XP boosts after all of the weekly challenges have been completed feels like a waste since you only have 1 daily challenge to clearly work towards at a time, and some of the daily challenges are very time consuming (e.g. complete 4 matches). This could incentivize players to queue for matchmaking modes with shorter match times or possibly throw games to get them over quicker to maximize their XP boost. Changing XP boosts from times to something like, “the next 5 Completed Challenges award bonus XP,” would help encourage players to continuing playing their preferred modes. - Once all weekly and daily challenges were exhausted the Battle Pass progression felt hollow since there were no other ways to progress it. Continuing to scale daily challenges up with each completion, or offering additional ways to earn Battle Pass XP, would help incentivize longer play sessions. A fun idea might be to add “Buddy” challenges, separate from the current daily and weekly challenges, that require you to be in a Fireteam to complete (e.g. complete X number of Campaign missions in co-op). - Coatings aren’t exciting unlocks as I’d rather have color options readily available for customization. If coatings were limited to specific patterns or graphics that’d be more interesting to earn.

Greetings fellow Spartans.
First of all, I would like to thank 343 Industries for giving me the privilege of enjoying the Tech Preview, I had a great time and it really exceeded my expectations by a lot.
During the days that the Tech Preview was available on my Xbox One Fat, I found differents bugs in the UI and I have several recommendations.

UI

  • Countless times when searching for a game came out the announcement of “Connection lost” even if it was connected to network by cable and Xbox Live remained stable.
  • The Tech Preview UI 90% of the time would bug when I played my first game (They didn’t load the textures, the camera showed the armor elsewhere, my Spartan was misplaced, the vehicles were misplaced and the weapons in other locations where they should be).
  • In the “AI Body”, the possible options I could implement in my AI “MATI” selection appeared without colors and without textures. This wasn’t the case with the other IA, however, the AI “MATI” was the only one I selected over the course of the Tech Preview.

Battle pass

  • In the battle pass section when seeing the rewards, the Spartan was seen in another position and they did not load the preview of the rewards.

Recommendations

  • It would be nice if in the final product of the battle pass they implement gaining experience for the battle pass by finishing multiplayer games and not just doing missions.
In this battle pass they gave a lot of experience to fulfill the missions but when you completed all of them there was no other way to continue leveling up in the battle pass, except for the option to pay.
  • to keep players busy or entertained in the game, I think many more exclusive missions and rewards should be implemented (weekly missions, season missions, daily missions, and daily login rewards).
This would keep players to keep playing constantly because such an effort would be rewarded.
Compared to other games that have battle pass, this strategy could really work.

General comments
In my opinion the experience was very rewarding and opinions in front of the UI and the battle pass quite positive because it is what I really expected, in addition to being the first Tech Preview we could not demand much, but seeing what you have created, I am excited about the direction that this game can have.
The UI is quite modern, easy to access and mostly easy to understand.
The battle pass is pretty simple and I’m sure you presented us with a fairly early version of that battle pass, so I think you’re going to surprise us with future versions of this pass.

PD:

  • To see in detail the reason for my comments, I decided to record clips and take screenshots and attach them on Twitter so you can see what I mean by the errors and bugs what I mentioned.
It’s not spam, it’s just an account that only has posts of my bugs found in the Tech Preview

  • In advance, I apologize for my lousy English, as I am a Spanish player and I really hope that our comments are taken into account for the final product
    Thank you a lot 343i

The Destiny UI is just straight copy pasted with no care whatsoever.

The grenades and equipment in the bottom right are too small and eligible clumped together like that and most of the time I don’t know what grenades I have or that I even have equipment. The actual Halo HUD is superior and should be put back in. Grenades top left, weapons top right, equipment right below weapons. These items need to be bigger and spaced apart to be readable.

The battle pass UI is also bad. I got the consumable XP boosts at the start of the flight but I had no idea where to use them. There was also apparently an option to use credits to buy levels, but that was hidden away in some sub menu that you’d only know about if read the very bottom of the screen and saw the very tiny Y button.

The UI for customization is also somehow worse than Halo 5? A single horizontal row for what will be dozens of items is straight up, no argument, objectively awful. The Halo Reach vertical UI is superior and should be copied. Also why does A not equip the item? X should be the Lore button, A should equip. The amount of wasted space in the armor hall is just weird.

Medals are too small and the redesigns are generic. The Perfection is just a red circle and is basically the overkill medal? The Blue and black hexagon is more iconic and distinct. Medals should appear above the kill feed and be big.

When starting a match I wanted to change armor yet had to back out like 3 screens to even reach the customization screen. Pressing start or select should always bring those up. Customization should always be a click away no matter where I am in the menus.

The outlines don’t work for what 343 are trying to accomplish. I still read blue bot = friendly even when I have the cotton candy foe color on. Red vs Blue in Halo is simply too ingrained at this point and the best course of action is to allow the player to force the friend or foe color on the spartan armor, not just an outline. When everyone will have unique color combos, I don’t trust the outline to help quickly distinguish between friend and foe.

The Maps and Modes button for a playlist is excellent! You need to go further though and not only bring back the MCC game type picker, but have a map picker as well. During the flight I wanted to play Bazaar on the final day since it would have the least playtime but I kept getting Live Fire the most and Recharge second most. I should be able to, in a social playlist, pick which maps I want to play on.

The AI section should agave a way to preview the AI voices. This will give players a better way of choosing which AI fits the spartan they want to make. Also I think the UI should be a grid so which will makes things easier to find and maybe adding a curser like PC would be nice too.

Suggestion - maybe add some weapons skins in the battle pass

In the interface I just noticed that when I went from the store to the menu, the image would freeze, and going to the slayer bot, the interface would be out of focus and I wouldn’t let you do any action.

Greetings! Here are my thoughts on the UI in this particular build:

Overall, I feel that the UI is solid but more so is not unique. I interact with other games that have similar features and what this build has is generic and a bit underwhelming. I feel like the transparency on certain tiles doesn’t help and organization of words, details, to even lore description can be integrated in a more appealing way. The austere look with simple lines while navigating the menus feel not on par with what a Halo game at release can be. Color designations for different item rarities lack pop. Showcased conent could be displayed in a exciting and lavish manner that feels earned and/or rewarding. Furthermore , the battle pass too can be showcased in a more exciting and interactive way given players will spend money on it to feel premium.

In terms of fuctionality, I can say navigation can be improved especially for customization. I feel like having conent all placed horizontally is tedious and not optimal. As one example , it makes finding and searching for armor hard. I have been strung on deciding which armor or visor color I like more before or how they differ if the are similar. I would like to compare them or at least not have to scroll endlessly into the sunset to find the other piece. This issue as you can imagine would become more apparent as content grows overtime. I feel like a better inventory or display system could be implemented so that players can appreciate and more easily navigate the content they own or are viewing.

Nonetheless, I know this is an old build I am glad to have had the opportunity to preview halo infinite. All hard work at 343 does not go unnoticed!

I thought the UI in MCC is cleaner than what was in the technical preview specifically when it comes to customization. I thought the store and the battlepass was fine. I really hope the challenges and xp are not the final representation in the game. The challenges should be swapped in most cases or the daily challenges needs to have more variety and cycled quicker. The weekly challenges should be more like MCC. I also didnt like how you could only earn xp through the challenges, in the preview you were capped at only so much xp a day regardless of how much you played. The double xp tokens had a system like cod where the timer runs even in the lobby, it should be changed to the token timer being only used in game like bf4.

I really liked the user interface and the battle pass, although what I did not like about the pass was the limited number of missions in the pass, because then it is not enough to level up in the pass. I also would have liked the level of the pass to go up with each game I played and as for the customization of the Spartan I would have liked to also customize the colors of my Spartan.

Everything in this area is fine, everything is perfect, except the challenges, before the update a few days after the tech test release, the challenges would not complete even if I did them, I tried restarting my Xbox One, but it still did not count the challenges. After the update, I was able to do the challenges and finally earn XP to advance in the battle pass.
One error I found was when placing the prosthesis, if I selected one it would not be placed, I had to go back to the main menu and put back the prosthesis I liked. In conclusion, it did not let me visualize how my Spartan would look like.

intuitive, I really like it just that I feel like they are going to have to change the xp prices

  • The menu is very messy and all blends together. The majority of the time, images and assets did not load properly so I was just looking at blank spaces or all white images.
  • Challenges did not count my progress properly. Example: I got 12 kills in a match but only got 9 progression on a challenge that just required any type of kills.
  • Controller sensitivity felt inconsistent to me, especially for the sidearm. Sometimes felt smooth and precise, other games it was sluggish with no changes to settings.
  • Friends Spartans and nameplates do not show their customization when viewing the in game friends list and they are offline.
  • Score does not show up sometimes on the victory screen.
  • The announcer says “nearing victory” at 39 kills which is odd and “halfway to victory” at 24 kills which just mathematically incorrect.
  • ALOT of images and assets do not load properly in the new waypoint app (on iPhone 11)
