Playing on Xbox One X on a 4k screen. Specific issues I encountered with the UI:
Option for player customization in between matchmaking is not communicated. Players can “back out” of the post game menu without leaving matchmaking and can change armor/coatings from there, but this option to back out without a break in matchmaking is also not communicated. Suggest a shortcut or button press in the post game lobby to more commonly used areas, like customization.
When customizing the player, the difference between “previewing” and “applying” a selection (ie: pressing A on a new helmet) is also not communicated. Took several tries before I noticed the text at the bottom of the screen to press X to confirm my selection. Suggest either a notification that some armor selections are still being previewed/are not confirmed, or change to the process of confirming armor/options (maybe a single A press is a “soft select” of the armor, and a double A press confirms?).
After Weapon Drills, I would frequently find myself pressing B at the end of a drill to select another weapon drill to play, just to be taken back to the main menu. I eventually trained myself to press A for more drills, as this was substantially less time between drills, but B seems more universally regarded as the “return” key on consoles.
When navigating Weapon Drills, the active element in the menu was often the “Play” button for a weapon, not the drill select sub menu. Pressing “up” on my left thumbstick then took me to the top of the Weapon Drill selections, not the menu item immediately above “Play”
Request a menu or function to more easily view your inventory or consumables. Did not notice or see the existing menu until very late on Sunday, and this would have substantially changed how I progressed with my unlocks.
Request to move the “news slider” on the main menu. The slides were informative, but blocked my view of other players in my fireteam.
Request some form of player identifiers in-game. Was unable to tell who in my group was my friend and who was a stranger I picked up from the internet. Couldn’t see gamertags or the four-character in-game ID when my crosshairs were placed over a player either.
Unsure if this is UI - when taking fire from bots while aiming down sights, UI would flash or flicker. Is this meant to be a flinch mechanic? Did not notice after the first day of playing, so possibly resolved.
I don’t like the fact to get Cr with real money. Please guys you can give us something to earn Cr without spend money? You guys say “No Microtransactions”
I love the simplistic layout. It’s not overdone and people will begin to appreciate that over time.
the only trouble I had with it is that I could not for the life of me figure out how to switch grenade types. I would just throw them until I got what I wanted! lol
I came to say one thing about the UI. Please, change the sensitivity numbers while ADS to match that of the standard input sensitivities that the player sets. Because ZOOM sensitivities only go up to 2.0 and my main sensitivity was 4.0. However, 2.0 was much faster than my 4.0. So, my ADS aim was too quick. It made dialing it in a pain because they do not share the same numerical values in regard to how they are changed. PLEASE. Fix that! It makes my brain hurt. Everything UI-wise was super clean and worked besides pictures or my character not loading when changing elements in the spartan creator menus. I am on Xbox one, which could explain the lengthier UI load times. No complaints, UI is slick.
Ok this one is kind of a mess.
It has for one too many tabs in the customization menu, all of the player character stuff could be added to one tab in the armor hall like the prosthetics and presentation and even the ai could be an option in the armor hall. The weapons bench and vehicle bay can stay as they are almost unchanged.
this is a big issue that needs fixing the menu itself doesn’t want to select the paintjob and armor bits that I want to that are unlocked and instead when I click on them I have to go back and click on my currently selected one and click confirm on it to equip. speaking of which there shouldn’t be such a small confirm button for pc players it should be as simple as clicking the paint, visor, armor piece ect. The social tab has a bug where the battle pass blacks out and disappears after a few seconds once in a while. im gonna be real about the battle pass, I don’t like the lack of progress without challenges. you should get progress from just playing matches when you have it, other than that pretty solid. when you want to jump into a match there are too many tabs as well. its not hard to navigate, just annoying when you want to go straight to matchmaking. it should go multiplayer then modes. you click on the mode and it goes straight to matchmaking with a separate tab next to it for details. and finally that leaves us with the shop. I noticed a bug where the models in the picture have disappeared and you need to click on it to see the skins and armor pieces ect. that’s all I have to say about the ui other than there isn’t a whole lot going on in the background of the menu and is semi boring to look at a lot of the time. which is funny because I like the customize background because it is visually interesting with my customized spartan, weapons. and vehicles cycling one after the other with the panning camera.
I don’t really like the battle pass at all, but there are some improvements I could see making it more tolerable:
More initially free armor - In game credit earnings per level up - More free unlockables - Helmet variants are unlocked simultaneously with the helmetI understand this could cause monetization problems, but I can guarantee it will look better to veteran Halo players than locking most of the armor customization behind a paywall.
I loved the UI in this, to be honest. The customization, the vehicle showcase, the battle pass - it was all just about as good as I could expect from a fully fleshed-out game, let alone a tech preview. Keep it up.
Sometimes the challenges will be frozen and won’t update unless you close the game and open it again - Needs a more simplified menu, kinda confusing - If you open the battlepass just right after finishing a match, the “searching for a match” thing will get stuck and won’t search anything, unless you close the game ofc - The voices from the AI and the Spartans can’t be heard unless you chance your console to englishWe love u 343 Industries from México
It feels too complicated. The tabs on the top could be bigger to be easier to see for newer players, and it transitions on Xbox One a bit roughly whenever you switch the tabs. My only other small complaint is the way to equip armor, AI, coatings etc. It would make more sense I think to hit A instead of X to equip something, it would make more sense like the older games. Also maybe the battle pass should have its own separate tab. Other than that I think the UI was fine
I think my only complaint is that there isn’t a way to progress the battle pass once you’re out of challenges. Certain players might see that as being unable to progress for the rest of the day, and it also means you need to play games of activating XP boosts at certain times to get the most experience from your challenges.
To feedback on the UI, some of it feels a lot like just a generic modern game, not really giving me the feel and asethetic of Halo. Most notably the weapon counter being a number rather than bullets really kind of hits home as missed oppertunities, it was always something that is Halo and it feels unique to the series and something that brings back nestolgia when I see it in games personally. I think change is needed over time, however this is something which maybe should have stayed as it was.
On another note the Health Bar being located underneath the shield bar while quite elegant in design was not very noticeable at first glace and took me an hour roughly of playing to notice properly, it’s also a bit of a pain to keep an eye on while fighting due to it being so high above the centre, there isn’t really too much to notice about how much health i have left unless i look at it, and then i’m distracted from looking at the environment which has got me killed a couple of times. I can’t really think of anything constructive on this as there is no easy solution. However better indicators maybe audible solutions, we have this new AI in the game, maybe an audible notification of say health being 50% (with options for 75% and 25%, if the AI themselves are to be configurable in this way) would be something useful as you can hear when the shields are broken and is the biggest indicator to me personally.
Other than these i can’t directly think of anything that stood out from the top of my head, may feedback more once i go over some screenshots and remind myself.
To tell the truth, the interface seemed like a good idea, the minimalist style seemed excellent, well worked and in order, although if you get confused when you want to get to some point but with time you get used to it,
•something that happened to me was that many times the textures took time to render in the menu.
•Another thing that happened to me is that in the battle pass I stopped giving myself objectives to complete and I could not advance further in the pass Also, when I was customizing the appearance of my Spartan, it would get stuck when I made the change of some part of armor.
•When I tried to put a prosthesis on my Spartan, he would get stuck and would not make the changes.
•Also several times it told me that it had disconnected from the server while the internet was still working.
I know I won’t be alone on this one but when it comes to the battle pass. PLEASEEE don’t make it so that the only way to progress it is through challenges. It’s something I really don’t like in MCC also. you should be able to constantly put progress towards it with XP like most games do now, I appreciate the fact that we get to keep each battle pass season forever but getting rid of the ‘challenges only’ will be the icing on the cake. It makes the grind more enjoyable knowing your slowly putting progress towards it after every match, Challenges should boost it yes, if your willing to go out and do them.
Below are my overall comments and feedback as there did not seem to be a better forum to put these.
Ability to slide felt pretty useless, I do not see it becoming a very usable feature, especially in competitive play. - The red indicator of where damage was coming from could be wider, older Halo games had this on the side of the screen, when it is only a circle around the reticle it is harder to see since it is in the middle of the main area. - Recoil on some of the weapons, particularly the VK78 is excessive. With so much recoil it becomes a “spray and pray” type of weapon reducing any competitive advantage of having it. I think this removes the ability to get good with some of these weapons and show the true skill difference among players - Pistol at a 7 shot kill also seems too high, would prefer this to be a 5 shot or at most a 6 shot kill to be a useful weapon. As soon as competitive play starts and everyone has a battle rifle, the pistol is useless. - Assault rifle feels too powerful, it is actually quite accurate from a distance and similar to the excessive recoil comment, this will allow less skilled players to compete with higher skilled players. The AR should not be as accurate or lethal, pinning up an AR vs. BR, the AR should never win from distance, yet it appears to in most cases - The sniper rifle first zoom at 5x is too much, this should be reduced to 2x to allow for that in between range, most players don’t use 10x zoom anyway, perhaps 2x and 8x or something like that is more preferable. - Button layout should include legacy boxer - Would prefer when you press the button to see the score that you have to hold it down, once you let go the score disappears, it gets hit accidentally sometimes and blocks the entire view of the screen. most people use this as a quick look, it does not need to be on the screen even for a full second - Pulse carbine ineffective, if not more lethal it will never be used - Intro scene of the players prior to the game start is annoying, it provides no benefit and delays the start of the game - Would prefer that everyone on the same team be the same color during the game, easier to tell who is friend vs. enemy - After killing an enemy, when they drop the grenades they had they look as if they are going to go off, somehow need to change that glow so people don’t run away from them when that is not required - Ability to press and mark an enemies location minimizes advanced player skills. Higher skilled players will learn the maps and callouts for enemies to their teammates, by simply requiring a button to do it removes that skillset. Maybe keep for social games but competitive should be removed - Likely can simplify the player recaps…most players do not care about damage power weapon kills, damage dealt, or accuracy. primary considerations are kills, assists, and deaths. - Some games i started in after the game had started - this is a bug - Camo lasting only 20 seconds is far too short. The maps are too large to get around in 20 seconds and sprinting renders the camo useless…camo should be 30 seconds minimum, 40 seconds (like HCE) if sprinting renders useless and it take so long to get around walking - Similar to the weapons training area, it would be nice to include the equipment as well and an arena to test them out in. Some can practice the grappling, sliding, throwing the different types of grenades, using shield…etc. - Suggestion to give players ability to move items within the HUD, currently there is nothing on top except for player shield level, i like seeing my ammo supply and grenades upper right, if i had the ability to move them and be customized like that it would be great. - Comment - never liked the limit of 2 grenades of each type, used to Halo CE where we can have 4 frag and 4 plasma…if we could hold more it would be better
The coating selection needs to be expanded into the Y axis as to not take ages to scroll through coatings to find the one you like or to find a new one, in the future it may be ideal to make certain categories for certain types/colors of coatings to further streamline the menu if there’s going to be hundreds of coatings. At the very least, a search option is a must-have for the coating selection menu.
The armor selection menu should be streamlined to be more similar to how it is in MCC or Halo Reach, in the sense that it’s up/down on the side with better functionality when selecting parts. However, the depictions for each piece equipped, and each piece available is quite nice and needs to stay.
I feel one of the main issues I had was the reticle. I play on a 27 inch monitor and like to make my FOV out. Like around 100. When I did that the reticle was way to small. I even put it down to around 70 and still didn’t like it much. The other problem with the reticle is the color. On outdoor maps the clear white reticle is harder to see. I don’t like it on indoor maps either. Please make it to where we can change the size of the reticle for if we make the FOV out farther plus allow us to change the color. I don’t care much for COD, but I did always like how they allowed you to change different reticle on the guns. I found myself just going back and playing Halo 3 on MCC because the reticle on there is way better. It’s not only bigger, it’s also blue making it way easier to see for me. I know not everyone cares about that or has that issue, but people are different and this was a big issue for me because I had a hard time seeing the reticle and felt like I should have been hitting way more shots than I was, only to realize I was having problems seeing the reticle. I feel like if these changed aren’t available in the final game it would affect how much I play/enjoy this game. Like I said, I just went back to MCC because of it and found myself not even want to play the flight. I’m sure it would be an easy add on to the HUD settings.
