Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

  • Customization:
the background images moves too fast in my opinion that you can’t appreciate what you’re seeing and It feels anxious - the transitions are too long - When you chiose an IA and you go to select a colori sometimes you see the standard until you move the cursor

Feedback: I do not think deaths should be on the mid-game scoreboard, at least not in Social.

In Halo 5: Guardians, deaths were added to the mid-game scoreboard as opposed to other Halo titles which displayed only a player’s kills.

In the Halo Infinite Technical Preview, we can see that deaths on the mid-game scoreboard have made a return.

Something that really excites me about Halo Infinite is all the work 343i have been putting into the onboarding process and helping new players learn the game, from the Academy to Bots, and hopefully these new players fall in love with the game like we have. Halo is not just a competitive game, but a social, fun, and silly one too.
I do not think that deaths on the mid-game scoreboard will be a welcoming feature to our newer players, and we run the risk of losing some to this mid-game statistic. What I propose is a compromise. I think the mid-game scoreboard displaying deaths is perfectly acceptable in ranked play, but in social it should be removed or at least only display your own deaths to you.

This way people will be able to relax more easily and have fun rather than having their death count in the back of their head, even in a social game.

Battle Pass UI:

My biggest problem with the Battle Pass UI is the amount of scrolling it takes to reach the highest level of the pass. And this is only with 20 levels, so it would be much worse in the full game with 100 (or more) levels available.

To combat this, my suggestion is folding the free and paid reward for each level to being above and below each other, rather than side by side. This will significantly reduce the amount of scrolling needed as the free and paid unlocks for each tier will be occupying the same amount of ‘scroll space,’ as opposed to currently where every free and paid reward is side by side, requiring excessive amounts of scrolling with the horizontal scrolling system in place.

As an example of what I am suggesting, look at the Sea of Thieves UI for their battle pass. https://i.imgur.com/VCGUBXE.png

Paid rewards for each level are directly below the corresponding free reward in that same level (the only difference being that Sea of Thieves’ battle pass does not have a paid reward for each level). Following this layout will massively improve Infinite’s scrolling experience in the battle pass because it will be easier and quicker to navigate to the last page of the battle pass.

Bugs

  • On certain menus, hovering over items and unlocks does not preview the unlock. Hovering over a cosmetic should always preview it. - Changing Right/Left arm prostheses is frequently getting stuck and not switching types
    Improvements

  • When selecting a cosmetic that you want to equip, I feel there is one too many buttons you need to press to equip the item. You have to click the helmet/armour piece, and then press ‘F’ to equip it, which is not very clear. There should be a quick select hotkey available so that you don’t have to go into another page with all the Lore and other details. At the very least, the ‘Equip’ button should be made much more obvious and visible than being a small mention in the bottom left, despite the fact it’s the function most people will be looking for when they go into that menu. - You should be able to rotate your Spartan in every customisation menu. For example, I can’t rotate my Spartan while changing Prostheses and it means I cannot fully see my right arm with the way the Spartan is facing.

I’m enjoying playing although I haven’t played much yet, will make further posts for anything I find.

One issue I do have is the lack of Zoom In / Zoom Out options. I usually play with scroll up to zoom in and scroll down to zoom out, so I’m getting stuck in scopes a bit. I could just be missing something though.

Crashes -
Change of keybinding (Push to talk) will consistently crash the game

Bugs -
Body Prostheses Menu:
Switching to some Prostheses and then back to none leaves certain Prostheses active (e.g hand) until user backs out of menu.

Weapon Bench Menu:
Does not display key prompts at bottom like Armor Hall and Vehicle Bay do.

Armor Hall Menu:
When backing out of Helmet menu spartan shows incorrect helmet.

Quality of Life / Accessibility Improvements -
Unbind Key:
There is currently no way to simply unbind a key, Instead you must bind another key and then bind it back to its original function

I’m kind of a fan of the UI a bit but maybe a little cluttered. One question I do have is can we earn XP towards battle pass without challenges? I have completed all the weekly and my daily PvP challenge doesn’t move. This is me being stuck on lvl 6 on battle pass.

Thanks!

Here are the UI, HUD and Menu bugs that I discovered in around 40 minutes of play time:

  • When you exit and enter the Shop menu, the background goes crazy and the texture starts spinning extremely fast and wildly, it looks like a grey scrolling texture and going from “Shop” screen to the “Play” screen, the bugged background texture from the Shop screen is stuck on the Play screen.

  • The button commands in the bottom left corner don’t show up in the Weapon Bench, if that’s intended, I would suggest putting them in since it gives you a button to click when you want to exit

  • There’s an Option menu in Armor Hall that has features like “Favorite” and “Equip”, they don’t serve any purpose since there’s only 1 Loadout, but I’m guessing that’ll be added later.

  • Voice chat push to talk button key-bind should be in the “Audio” tab next to the Voice Chat Mode setting

  • The game closed down/crashed the moment I switched my push to talk key and all my settings in keyboard/mouse were reverted after the crash - When I got back into the game the player model on the main screen wasn’t wearing any customization that I put on

  • The number shown on Minimum Framerate setting in options keeps twitching when you enable and disable V-Sync

  • There should be more information displayed about every setting in Video options, like the information about what Async Capture is and Volumetric Fog and other things

  • Moving the mouse over the AI Model options just bugs out and it sticks with 1 version even tho I’m hovering over a different model, then it unfreezes after you shake your mouse rapidly.

  • The subtitles should be turned off by default for multiplayer because they don’t serve a purpose if you have headphones, and they should also be tuned down in size, they were HUGE to the point that they were bothering me because they would clutter up screen space.

  • Some icons for the Battle Pass rewards are not showing up

HUD Feedback:
I’d love to see toggles to disable both player and weapon outlines, as well as hitmarkers and score popups - these elements are great for people who like them, but disabled would complete the classic experience for me.

PC user.

  • Not a fan of having to tick the small box to equip items. Id prefer to just click the entire graphic to select.
  • I feel like the entire box with the button shown on it in the menu (bottom right) should be the button. Not just the graphic.
  • It would be good if you could right click when tabbed in game to toggle mouse to mute players.

The general UI is good but the radar is very hard to read, I’d prefer some more visual ques on if the enemy is above or below me

The battle pass seems to be stuck at tier 8, no more exp progression

Idk I like seeing my kills and my deaths.

Did you read my post?

I think the mid-game scoreboard displaying deaths is perfectly acceptable in ranked play, but in social it should be removed or at least only display your own deaths to you.

  • The grenade glow (most noticably frag grenades) is a bit much. In previous Halos they only glowed when they’re primed and about to explode. In Infinite I guess you want players to be able to spot them but now when I see them I just think they’re about to explode. - The motion sensor only showing people sprinting is a step backwards - The click/hold zoom behavior is a step backwards. In the MCC you can click once to toggle zoom or hold to zoom then release to un-zoom.

I can’t customize my spartan. Everytime I choose color or a part of an armor it changes it back to default immediatelly when I leave the selection.

I’ve had a couple of issues with the UI not responding to my controller on PC and button prompts will sometimes get stuck on the keyboard prompts.

Also when adjusting resolution scaling it might make more sense to add a delay to actually applying the new scaling instead of immediately applying that when the slider is moved.

I did not like the interface of the weapons sight too much, it feels very generic, the zoom is the same for most weapons, I do not know if I get used to Halo 5 but each weapon had its own scope, for example the scope The covenat carbine was very different from the sight of an assault rifle it feels very generic, I did not like that most of the weapons had the same style of sight and that all had 140x zoom it felt very generic if only we They gave these weapons to preview test, how will the majority be? It would be boring as he just said, I do not know if it was the custom of playing halo 5 guardians, but when you chose a different weapon than the one I had equipped and zoomed in with the scope, you felt a different weapon in itself, I did not feel the same this time with the carbine and other weapons that are playable for now, the game also needs more sounds in case it sounds very muffled, an example when you level up for the battle pass an exciting sound would not be bad but well, there is still time to change this so far is a preview right?

It crashes if you set push to talk to anything.

Here’s what I’ve noticed with my experience looking at the UI and navigating the menus with some added feed back.

Random UI elements will flash pink or white. Notable examples:

  • The News page will flash white when cycling between article previews. - Shop UI elements will flash pink (notably the daily items on the right) when switching to that tab. - Names in the Friends List tab will show up as white boxes until hovered over.Quickly navigating the menus will sometimes cause the icons to disappear or display the wrong items when backing out of menus in the Customization menu. This occurs often while quickly previewing armor coatings, armor parts, and prosthetics.

The Settings are a little overwhelming to navigate and having more drop down tabs would greatly clean up the menus and make it easier to find a specific option.

Keybinds will reset when closing and reopening the game.

The cursor following camera in Play will occasionally spring back to center while looking around.

Aesthetically I find the Customization UI to be generic to look at in my opinion when compared to the more holographic feel of Halo 4 and MCC’s menus.

As much as I love the music of the game so far, some of the tracks feel out of place in a Halo game. Such as the halfway match jingle, end match music, and the tracks that play after the Halo themes have passed. They give off the impression that I’m playing a different game entirely.

So as it stands currently, the UI is a bit cluttered.
A few suggestions for this would be to rearrange where certain things are.

An example being to put customization and the shop in the start button menu tab, similar to Halo MCC.
Instead of having them accessed with the left and right bumpers.
Then move ‘news’, ‘patch notes’ into their own tabs below multiplayer and academy.

As visual representationof the main menu:

Campaign
Multiplayer
Academy
Custom games/browser
Theater
Forge
News
Patch notes.

The control panel lay out as:

Armor hall
Weapons bench
Vehicle bay
Body & AI
Presentation
Battle pass
Settings
Support
Credits

So basically similar to past halo games menu UI.

As for customization menu UI, I’d recommend going back to the vertical scrolling menus with subsections when choosing armor and accessories.
The Halo Reach style spartan customization UI reworked to accommodate the new options yet to be seen in later flights and full release.

Thank you reading, I hope my sentence structuring wasn’t a headache to read.
