Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

  • Not too much to say about the UI visuals, though I have noticed narrow grey/black lines at what’s presumably the edge of the description slides for customizations, which distractingly slice through the visual of whatever you’re customizing. It’s about 4/7 the way across the screen on any customization element’s Manufacturer/Released/Description screen, to be precise, and probably doesn’t need to be there. - Mentioned in the Bot Slayer feedback that it’s weird having the stats/leaderboard on a button toggle instead of hold to view, dismiss on release. Plus, the translucent overlay on the whole screen behind it seems unnecessary when traditionally the obstruction hasn’t been more than the stats box.Progress systems, I’ve got some feelings about though, mostly battle pass XP.

  • Please add per-match XP payouts, even if they’re reduced from the challenge amounts. As it stands, battle pass progress would dry up fairly quickly after clearing out weeklies, and XP boosting feels like a waste after that, given an average of about three matches per boost (I’m figuring the matchmaking will be a little more consistent in the final product). That means you’ve got your first two dailies’ worth of doubled XP at the start of a new set if your weeklies are done, and then you can basically burn one every last match for the dailies after that. Also, I feel like it might be nice to scale the match payouts based on the level of difficulty of what you’re up against, with Marine-level at the low end and PvP at the height. - Maybe keep unfinished challenges around after finishing the weekly capstone? Even if they were only worth half the regular XP, and/or they were only sprinkled in as a smaller stack of 2-5 challenges each day from the pool of possibilities, it’d give something for those of us willing to grind a little more here and there to do, and the reduced values would still incentivize anyone who wanted to just pay cR to level to something they wanted or invest in XP boosts.I imagine the “reduced values” talk might not be the most popular among other players reading this, but I’m also trying to be realistic in my expectations re: monetizing the free-to-play multiplayer and 343 maybe not wanting to induce unhealthily addictive play behavior in their user base. Keep 'em coming back but let them leave, et cetera.

Also, are there plans for “spillover” rewards for anyone who completes the pass before a season is up? i.e. some sort of payout each time someone earns a level’s worth of XP after they’ve hit the max pass level? I’m not sure what it would entail, as neither swaps nor XP boosts would be all that useful, but maybe a little bit of cR or something?

I don’t know if it’s me, but I get a little lost in the interface, the colors and animation I like but in my opinion it’s a bit complicated. so the game I love, I would like to be able to change different parts of the suit to my liking and not a range of predetermined colors, THE game is great and the Bots learn I like a lot that I saw a bot do to me what I did in previous games and I was surprised at how fast they learn , I love Halo Infinite Looking forward to the game

The technical preview has been pretty satisfying to play through, but I got some optional Visual UI opinions.

The Shield color and outlines should be separate in terms of colors including the enemy dots on the map, it would allow for more flexibility for the UI.
The outlines appear too big and somewhat distracting and it undermines the spartan in the way of saturating the spartan colors and look, in a visual standpoint.

It would be great to have an option to turn off or adjust the strength of the outlines and leave the users with still the bubble to indicate friendlies or clan name, and I believe the Spartan’s stand out anyways. Or if possible an option to toggle red vs blue.

Have the battlepass in a separate tab, having it in the shop is a bit annoying to navigate to every time. Extra steps than needed to equip things when it’s not needed. Having the body type in an area that’s not the armor hall makes it a hassle to go back and forth to see what the different armor pieces look like on each of the body types. These are UI things that I found that I didn’t really enjoy. Overall the game is very well made and I’m excited to see the finished product!

Ok so the UI isn’t too bad but like everyone else here is saying the simpler the better. I’d just like to say that in my opinion the “news” tab that blocks a quarter of the screen should be entirely removed or at least moved because its blocking the cool background with my badass spartan!

> Overall I love the UI! My only complaint is the in-game scoreboard that you can bring up, id like to have a toggle similar to hold/tap to zoom. Right now I don’t like how you have to press it to bring it up then press again to get rid of it. Id rather hold the button, get the info I need, and then have it dissappear when I let go.

That option is available

The menu UI feels too large and there’s so many layers of menus to go through to get to what you want.

  • The News section is too large and blocks a quarter of the Spartan model. Move the News block to the left of the screen, shrink it down, or remove it entirely and move the Spartan to or near the middle. It being on the far right just looks weird and off-center. - Add the Settings menu to the main menu. - The roster should be a sub-menu in the main menu that can pop out at the click of the button instead of being its own separate menu like in Halo Reach. That way you can see your fireteam and whichever friends are playing the game. - Add an inspect option so you don’t go in blind when joining a friend. Sometimes a friend is in a lobby with a group of people you don’t want to play with but you won’t know that until you join. - When looking at your own player options in the roster, the labels and information aren’t grouped together. You have:
    –Status

  • –Online: In Menus*

  • –Privacy: Friends*

  • –Players: 1/28*
“Online” is information, but it’s grouped with “Privacy” and “Players” which are labels. Instead, the intuitive way to organize this is placing “Status” with the other two labels and moving “Online” to the side with the other information. You can then inspect the lobby your friend is in to see what they’re up to and who they’re playing with instead of going in blind. - For going into matchmaking, you shouldn’t need to enter an entirely new menu when selecting a playlist. Keep it in one menu and change the Map and Modes display to a hotkey. That information should be optional to view in a different menu or even popout compared to the playlist itself. - For customization, the armor, coating, weapon, AI, and vehicle options take up more space than they ever need to. Right now they’re in a large blocky list going horizontally across the bottom of the screen. Instead, go the Reach and 3 route and have it be a vertical list of names or labels on the left side of the screen. It will take way too long to scroll through this current massive bloated list to find what you’re looking for, especially if you have hundreds of options to choose from. For the coatings, have it be in a grid-shaped list like how classic colors were in previous Halo games. It would save a massive amount of space and time for players choosing their customization options. - Body customization and prosthetics should not be in an entirely different menu from armor and coating customization. AI voice and color should be in the same menu as service tags and emblems. - Another issue is the keybind for both equipping and inspecting these options. Right now “X” for the controller or “F” for the keyboard is equip and “A” for the controller and “LMB” for the keyboard is inspect which makes no sense. Everything else in the menus uses “A” or “LMB” to select, not “X” or “F”. Inspecting an item should be optional, not an unavoidable blunder. Switch the keybinds around. - Allow us to spin the weapons around completely like you do for vehicles. - Allow us to preview an AI’s voice. We shouldn’t need to enter a game to find out what voice an AI has. - Here’s a very minor gripe. More preference than anything. Change the background to something more majestic to reflect the awesome music. It feels odd that we have godly choir when we’re staring at a pelican and our Spartan just standing there. Now, onto the next issue: the HUD for gameplay. It feels too unbalanced and cluttered on one side, the bottom of the screen, and there’s just so much going on at once that it can be hard to focus on the right thing.

  • Restore the UI back to all other previous Halo games. Radar stays on the bottom left, shield and health stays in the top mid, grenades go to the top left (and allow us to see both types of grenades we’re carrying), weapons and ammo go on the top right, and the score goes on the bottom right like classic games. Right now it is way too cluttered in the bottom right and the score being in the bottom middle feels odd for a Halo game. There’s just too much going on in the bottom of the screen and it feels like I’m staring too much at the bottom, ignoring my health, and even then it’s hard to focus on any one thing down there. In previous Halo games, I could see my grenade count and ammo out of the corner of my eyes while still focusing on my health easily. - If that’s impossible to change, then at least allow us to edit our HUDs back to classic Halo. Make it more accessible for those of us who feel uncomfortable with the current HUD layout. - Give us a Red vs. Blue toggle/override option. The outlines are okay in theory, but when there’s so much going on at once, it’s hard to tell who is who in the heat of the moment. Accidental betrayals will happen because of this. Furthermore, people who are hard of hearing and rely on visual cues or people who are colorblind may have a harder time distinguishing friend from foe. An override option that replaces the outlines with classic RvB would provide the perfect option for Halo veterans who prefer the simplicity of the Red vs. Blue colors and would be much more accessible and inclusive for those who find outlines to be a disadvantage on their end. It’s much easier to tell at a glance if the player you’re looking at is an enemy because they’re the opposite color of you. It shouldn’t be infeasible to do; after all, there is an override option for weapon and vehicle skins in Halo 3 on MCC for those who don’t like looking at those flashy skins. This option will make everyone happy. - Another issue with outlines is that they interfere heavily with shields. It’s hard to tell when a shield is at full strength, taking fire, weak, or broken completely when the outline completely obscures that. The same can be said for overshield. It is difficult to tell when a player has overshield activated. The solution to this? Provide a separate option for choosing shield color. That way the outline and shield won’t forcibly be the same color. - Allow us to see teammates through walls and across the map the classic way: with service tags. - Allow us to enable/disable the announcer voice and AI voice separately. Right now, the only option is Spartan Chatter (which currently doesn’t work) and the Voice Volume which disables everything when put to 0. - Remove the glow for dropped grenades. There’s no need for the glow when they’re perfectly fine without it, and a glowing grenade usually means it’s going to blow up. - Allow us to mute players midgame by adding an option to in the scoreboard like previous Halo games.Overall, the current UI is very unintuitive and not user-friendly at all, and the HUD is not as accessible as it should be.

The user base is very different from the previous halo, it is somewhat uncomfortable to be looking down to the right to see the ammunition that you have left, and being separated from the player’s hub, I cannot see the equipment that I have left or I carry. .

> I noticed during a match that someone had a hot mic, so I went to try and mute them. I suggest adding the mute method in the Scoreboard like in previous Halo games.

That would be a great thing. Also had one guy with really penetrant and annoying noises coming through his mic but I couldn’t find a button to mute him.

Just like in the other Halo games, I’d like to see the score board only when pressing/holding down the “select” button on the controller for a quick view.
They way it is now you press “select” once and the score board remains in the picture forcing you to press again to make it go away.

I would greatly appreciate a sort of “submenu” approach to armor selection, similar to Halo Reach. The “side to side” selector is going to suffer from the same problem as Halo 5 where it’ll take absolutely forever to scroll through the whole thing and find the one armor piece or coating that I’m looking for, a problem that will only get worse as the game gets updates.

The settings menu could be drastically improved simply by giving me the option to collapse and expand the various sections of options, rather than having them all laid out in full at all times. For example, if I’m looking to change the sensitivity for 6x Zoom weapons, I could open up the “sensetivity” submenu and then it would show me all of the sensitivity options. When I’m done, I can close it up and get it out of the way.

Error with formatting on zvezda description. Third line isn’t in line with the others. Same with util cooling unit.

Im not a huge fan of how limited the coloring is of the armor, it shouldnt be set, the skins you can buy can be but i feel like custom should be free to customize each piece of armor, the premium skins can have more premium colors as well as designs, also the ai doesnt seem right, they should be in your hud not your hand, and i feel like they could be more like symbols and you can also choose among voices, customize your ai as well

Think I’ve already mentioned it but I’ll just say it again. I LOVE THAT ELECTRIC GUITAR MUSIC IN THE MENU!!!

Customization menu is a chore to navigate. The current system of a single line of square tiles to select which armor piece and which skin we want means that screen real estate is sorely misused. And don’t even get me started on the menu for weapons and vehicles; there is no reason why we should only be able to see one weapon or vehicle at a time. I would highly recommend changing it to a list format, with a preview of the item to the side (basically the system used by halo reach), or even a grid system with more than 1 row. I had a similar issue with MCC, where you can only see three maps or gamemodes on screen at a time, which is also a chore to navigate. Also, I believe that it would be neat to be able to inspect the model for your spartan, weapon, and vehicle in the customization menu, not only to see how the skin affects the model, but also just to be able to inspect the model in detail instead of needing to head into forge or whatever.

The UI is nice and snappy, I love the menu navigation. But I get a bit lost mashing esc, toggling the esc menu that isn’t distinct enough from the main menu, trying to back out of starting a matchmaking search and trying to get to customization. also the checkbox / double-select (in the app) to actually apply a customization is weird and confusing.

First of all: Thank you for the chance to participate in the techtest.

I want to focus my feedback on the Battle Pass in particular, especially levelling up the battle pass: As it stands now, it does not feel rewarding for one particular reason: Only the challenges count towards the pass, not the matches itself. Since there are only so many daily/weekly quests it feels like levelling up the pass is capped and knowing that only the challenges count towards it - at leat for me - takes out the rewarding feeling.

I would like to draw your attention to the battle pass of Apex Legends as a point of comparison because I feel they have really developed a good system over time. Every match grants XP that count towards the battle pass. There are several daily and weekly challenges available to boost levelling up in the pass, I’m sure you’ve looked at their system. I’m not suggesting that you copy their system, but that you adjust the current process of the battle pass in a way that every multiplayer match does add an X amount of XP to the progression bar for the next battle pass level.

From my experience I can say that I have engaged more with Apex Legends because every match counts towards levelling up the pass and thus feels somewhat rewarding. Of course the main reason I play is because it’s crazy fun, but this feeling of working towards something, getting something in the end really does give it the edge and I feel like wiht the current system this is missing from Infinite, so I hope you make this minor adjustment to the battle pass.

Regarding Challenges: I haven’t encountered many challenges I didn’t like, most felt alright to play. However, I was missing the opportunity to swap daily challenges. It seems this only availabel for weekly challenges?

I’m happy to give you more feedback if needed. Thank you again for the chance to participate!

Battle pass, store and customization

I think this part is the one with the most bugs

1 often happened to me is that I did not load the battle pass or the store and I had to close the game and re-enter

2 the background of the menu disappears when changing sections very quickly

3 sometimes the background was deformed by zooming in on my Spartan.
For the rest it is good I like how it is distributed.

The customization is great and I already want to be able to have a Mark 5 like the one from Halo CE Aniversary or the one from halo 4 with that they added of the armor core I think I already know where the shots go

The UI is weird, I feel like it’s missing certain things like the camouflage effect that I didn’t know how much time it had left. now having the weapons down I feel that it is more comfortable.

What I did not like is the radar I feel that the Halo 5 radar is the best and the most accurate when they are above you it comes out with a triangle and if they are below it is a duller color because although I imagine where they are that of inferring if it is that they are up or down is annoying that if it was like halo 5 that was more understandable

I also did not like the change of the Smart link very much, but it is very simple, I don’t know why they did that if they were going to leave it to all the weapons anyway, I think that each weapon should have its own Smart link design as it was in Halo 5 than the needler I had a purple S-Link and the assault rifle a rounder one although I have to confess that it is more comfortable to aim with the sidekick than with the magnum of Halo 5 it is better and more comfortable but still I would like each weapon to have its own design of S-Link because otherwise it is very simple

Update #3
A list of bugs I have encountered on STEAM VERSION ONLY.
Note: Common bugs for example random crashing or server disconnections are not included as I’m sure these will be documented internally.

UI

  • When changing key graphics settings which would require a restart of the Game, no notification is displayed to tell the user this - When starting the Game for the first time (could persist, not tested), on the empty Recent Player slots, a single slot shows no ellipsis sign in the card on the left - The Last Match Results button should only be shown when details of a last match can be gathered. Currently, I am shown a Screen with a 0 in the top-leftOther

  • Following todays update, a number of my armour modifications were reset including Shoulder Pads and Knee Pads
